I never understood why people lionise the German army in WW2. They knew for 40+ years that they would eventually have to confront Britain, and they knew that to do that and win they'd have to cross the channel. And they made absolutely no plan for this eventuality. For 40 years! So when in 1940 they actually did reach the beach, they stood around with their collectives dicks in their hand and didn't know what to do.
The retardation of this is pretty indefensible.

Germany didn't want to fight Britain and never wanted to invade it either. In both wars Britain declared war on Germany, heck even Hitler made repeated peace offers towards Britain
Fighting Britain was tangential to Hitler’s plans, and an invasion would have sucked up untold numbers of men and resources for little to no material gain. GB is low in natural resources and in farm land.
>Germany didn't want to fight Britain and never wanted to invade it either.
Bullshit. And retarded either way. They knew they would have to fight Britain and they forced confrontations on both occasions.
>GB is low in natural resources and in farm land.
Not in 1940 it wasn't. It had coal and steel in great abundance and signficant industry. It would have been a better prize than Russia.
>And retarded either way
Yes, because the German leaders of the time were retarded, but it's not bullshit. Germany wanted to defeat it's continental enemies, they never declared war on Britain.
>It would have been a better prize than Russia.
No it wouldn't. Germany needed Ukrainian grain and oil from the Caucasus, it had enough steel and coal.
>, it had enough steel and coal.
It was importing both of those in large quantities from Sweden.
Yes, and?
Hitler desperately wanted to buy off Britain instead of fighting them and it almost worked. Halifax was ready to accept any offer and Churchill was the holdout. Look up the May 1940 crisis, or read Orwell's account of it which is pretty good
>Annexing Austria was a dick move Hitler, but whatever, we'll let it slide. Don't force your way in anywhere else.
>Okay fine, you can have the Sudentland, but you're really shortening your leash. Just don't fuck with the rest of Czechoslovakia
>Okay, whatever no one cared about Czechoslovakia anyway, but Poland won't let you have Danzig.
>Hitler, we're serious this time, we'll come to Poland's aid if you invade them.
>We mean it, don't cross us.
>We're declaring war on you for fucking with Poland
"Hitler dindu nuffin, he was a good boi! He just needed mo' territory fo' lebensraum. Anglo-Frankish aggressors are da real racists!"
Austria voted to become part of Germany and welcomed the “invading” Germans by throwing flowers at them. Fun fact Czechoslovaki and Poland were part of the German empire for hundreds of years up until the end of world war 1. Study history before spouting falsehoods
>t Czechoslovaki and Poland were part of the German empire for hundreds of years up until the end of world war 1
Haha. No.
>Study history before spouting falsehoods
The unintentional irony is so strong you must be American.
>"Hitler dindu nuffin, he was a good boi! He just needed mo' territory fo' lebensraum. Anglo-Frankish aggressors are da real racists!"
not what I said you liar. What I said is that Hitler didn't want to fight Britain. He just went along with his moves despite that making Britain declare war.
Their only retarded moves were invading Poland and then invading Russia.
If they had just stopped short of Poland and France, to this day there would still be the Reich.
People overestimate the guts of the brits/americans/ruskies.
>40 years
nice thread
desu this is where you start to get into the meta geopolitical game that doesn't translate into movies and video games well: the utilitarian, amoral, political winds that characterize Europe.
Britain, with their empire, did not want a central European power to emerge that could properly challenge the British Isles that was not on their side.
2nd or 3rd Reich, didn't matter, they did not want Germans to be in any position to harm Britain, and so the Germans knew they would have to fight the English if they wanted to realize their dreams.
They could have gotten away with it if they stopped at western mainland Europe
Prussian autism
remember, they are efficient, not reasonable
German efficiency is a meme.
they're overhyped to fuck, but they didn't arrive where they are on accident.
Großer Generalstab is something almost the whole west copied.
He wanted to fight Britain, because he knew they'd eventually jump in. He knew from the past 400 years of European history that the major powers were always interested in maintaining somewhat of a balance and would form alliances against any one attempting to form a hegemony. It's not like he was aghast and appalled when the Bongs and Frogs finally found their balls and declared war.
>if they had just not invaded the very place they started the war to annex & hadn't also attacked the military powerhouse on their Western border that had declared war on them they would have been OK
Nonsense! We still use their horse-based logistical system today.
Well, they kinda did happen to have the fertile North EWuropean Plain and historically excellent waterways communications as well as great reserves of high quality iron and coal by accident. More or less. And they still managed to get rekt for most of their history because they were too autistic to figure out how to work together.
> it had enough steel and coal.
Bullshit. Swedish imports of both kept German industry afloat throughout the war.
>And they still managed to get rekt for most of their history because they were too autistic to figure out how to work together.
i was just about to mention that "germany" is halfway a construct because they have historically been just a few regions and a billion little states amongst them.
> they are efficient
So efficient they wen't to war just before winter without any winter clothing or antifreeze.
So efficient that when the luftwaffe was trying to supply the encircled 6th Army they airdropped a million condoms but no food or ammunition.
>Fun fact Czechoslovaki and Poland were part of the German empire for hundreds of years up until the end of world war 1.
So? They were independent nations at the time they were invaded. And if you really want to go down that rabbit hole, parts of the Prussian Empire belonged to the Kingdom of Poland, so Germany had no business invading or annexing any of that territory. They should have done the decent thing, and given back the Polish territory that they wrongfully occupied at the end of WW1
not every war the Germans fought was WW2 retard
god damn, you mention that Germany has a halfway decent military history and faggots come out of the woodwork to complain, i assume if we had flags it would all be eastern euros or something.
The Germans did have a plan for invading England. Operation Sea Lion was its name but Hitler considered total air superiority over the English channel a vital precondition to its enactment so it was postponed indefinitely after the Luftwaffe lost the Battle of Britain.
>The Germans did have a plan for invading England.
Have yoiu seen the plan? They "planned" to float over in river boats and rafts. It really wasn't much to show for 40-50 years work.
Coal was the one natural resource that Germany had in abundance, iron ore less so.
>It really wasn't much to show for 40-50 years work.
it wasn't 40-50 years of work, it was a few weeks of work... Germany never set themselves the end goal to invade Britain you brainlet
>Fun fact Czechoslovaki and Poland were part of the German empire for hundreds of years up until the end of world war
1. For hundreds of years? No.
2. They were independent before conquest
3. Hitler conquered them AGAIN. Against their will! Again!
>1. For hundreds of years? No.
yes they were, Austria was part of the HRE since its establishment, Bohemia was acquired in 1002.
England was the largest colonial power in the world beating an income out of India, Australia, Canada, still taking a hot shit on the Irish, etc. Fuck England and fuck England's cheer leaders.
>Austria was part of the HRE since its establishment,
Which is not the same thing as being part of Germany. German princes tended to control the Imperial throne, yes, that doesn’t make the entirety of the HRE Germany. Claiming otherwise would be akin to stating that Western European nations are part of the US, due to their membership in NATO.
>dropped a million condoms
user i hope you are fuckin with us
>The virgin Luftwaffe thinks you wear a condom when you're giving Mother Russia 10" of Krupp Steel.
Goddamn, could Goring do literally anything right?
Invading the UK wasn't thought to be necessary to eliminate them from the war. Consider how tortuous the historical path was that actually made an invasion a requirement to eliminate the UK from the war.
>For whatever reason, the BEF escapes from Dunkirk. I won't get into the various theories about why that happened. But it's probable that a few slight changes of events would see the BEF either captured wholesale, or defeated in detail. This would probably force a white peace, if nothing else.
>King George IV took the throne in a highly unexpected, very bizarre succession instead of the Nazi-sympathetic Edward.
>Churchill recovers from political annihilation and social exile to become PM against all odds.
>Churchill (and HMS Arc Royale) survive when the two torpedoes that strike the carrier he is making a tour of fail to detonate.
>A last-minute miscalculation by Luftwaffe planners pulls air assets off the radar stations and coastal airfields, costing Germany victory in the Battle of Britain when the RAF was only 4-5 days from breaking.
And on and on. If any one of those single events changed, then Hitler and co. either wouldn't have needed to invade the UK, or would have been able to. So while I agree the OKW was a shit-show generally, the UK got a ludicrous number of lucky breaks that let them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
>Claiming otherwise would be akin to stating that Western European nations are part of the US, due to their membership in NATO.
that's not a fair comparison, member princes and states were vassals to the emperor. Only after 1648 did the emperor lose much authority.
>god damn, you mention that Germany has a halfway decent military history and faggots come out of the woodwork to complain, i assume if we had flags it would all be eastern euros or something.
okay prove that they have a decent military history then, the list of wars won by germany is a very short list
Stalin had plans drawn up to invade in late '42 from the very beginning

No. Vassalhood is radically different from any concept of nationality.
>they airdropped a million condoms but no food or ammunition.
Of course they did, the men of the Sixth army were totally fucked.
Germany did a lot of things that were questionable in terms of it's long term longevity as a European super power, most of these were effected by Herr Hitler and it would seem that the lack of preparation on the part of the Abwehr, the Luffwaffe, The Kreigsmarine and the Wehrmarcht was down to poor planning.
One could reasonably surmise that if a war plan with Britain had been pursued, then a plan along the lines of Operation Sea Lion. And furthermore spent less time creating battleships like the Tirpitz and Bismark and sunk more money into producing a larger U-Boat fleet.
Also declaring war on America after pearl harbor was the only time Hitler kept a treaty agreement, and essentially it doomed the Nazi's to fail in Europe.
Parts of the Sudentenland were settled by German speakers, and parts annexed to Poland were originally parts of Prussia, but this is not contested by anyone in any historical context, so WTF is your argument there?
Also Austria voted Ja in a referendum that was held essentially once the Austrian Nazi's ceased political power in the country. It was a silent coup carried out by the Germans.
BEF escaped Dunkirk because the Panzer divisions that would have been sent in pursuit were held in reserve for a few days because the commander did not want to commit without getting Hitlers approval.
yet every state at the time was a feudal state and the HRE was overwhelmingly German...
>implying danzig was rightful polish territory
Poland isn't even a real country. It's the illegitimate love child of the Brest-Litovsk and Versailles treaties. Birthed by people who disliked Germans with a passion. As for England. The original plans for the Greater Germanic Reich didn't include England. It didn't even include most of France.
Hitler did not fear English armies. He did not fear the English airforce either, or he would not have tried to take them out. What Hitler feared was the massive English Navy; the 3rd Reich never had more than a fraction of such naval force to counter it with. An actual sea invasion would have been an epic disaster. Now, if the Germans HAD managed to get air superiority (and they were incredibly close) they could have used the air transport armada to land airborne troopers and secure key airports like they did elsewhere, then force the English to make a peace treaty. But retrospect is always 20/20.
Germany was part of the Roman empire, should Italy have invaded them?
Czechoslovakia was part of Austria-Hungary
They did want to defeat Britain, whether by diplomatically neutralizing them or by fighting them. However it's true that until 1940 they had no prospect of invading Britain so never prepared for it because nobody expected France to fucking implode or that Britain wouldn't surrender if it did.
this
Poland is almost as artificial as Belgium. a good amount of their clay is former German clay anyway
This. Germany is just a more efficient Italy.
