>Some 614 gigabytes on a secretive US Navy project was reportedly stolen from a contractor, who kept the data unclassified despite the sensitivity of the information, which includes the Pentagon’s plan for a supersonic missile. >Breaches that could deal a heavy blow to the US military’s bid to dominate the waters near the disputed islands in the South China Sea took place at least twice, in January and February this year, US officials told The Washington Post. >The data that was compromised by what officials believe were Chinese hackers working for the state intelligence agency concerns the Sea Dragon project, which is aimed at “integrating an existing weapon system with an existing Navy platform.” The hackers reportedly gained access to signals and sensor data, as well as submarine radio information. This data can provide a valuable insight into the distance that US submarines may be able to detect their Chinese adversaries. According to the investigators, the operatives of the Chinese Ministry of State Security also obtained the Navy’s submarine development unit library, which offers a glimpse into hundreds of mechanical and software systems used by the Navy.
>Among the data seized was also information on the US Navy's plans to mount a supersonic anti-ship missile on a submarine, The Post reported. It did not provide any specifics on the project, saying it was asked by the Navy to withhold the details from the report, so as not to damage US security further.
Probably the same way they stole our best nuclear warhead designs. Some Chinese "American" working at Los Alamos simply walks out the door and delivers them for free because we're idiots with security.
Anthony Ortiz
I don't believe this. No way the US is this retarded.
Adam Rodriguez
The government isn't, but US contractors are notoriously shit when it comes to cyber attacks. Remember Buran, the F-35 debacle etc all these successful hacks have occurred because of contractor negligence. The US needs a radical overhaul of their military contractor system.
Julian Roberts
The important thing is that the contractor will not suffer any consequences.
They've supposedly ripped out everything from FreeBSD and rebuilt it to remove any backdoors. It's called Kylin and installed on all sensitive computers, probably all contractors too since most of the are SOEs. A ton of our sources got caught.
Noah Wilson
The joke is with all the backdoors in American commercial software for the US goverment, you are also open the backdoor for Chinese hackers.
Colton Kelly
Everyone is hacking everyone. No wonder the Russian FSB went back to using paper and typewriters.
Owen Evans
>“integrating an existing weapon system with an existing Navy platform.” So something similar to Kalibr and YJ-18
>First off, wtf was it doing online? it wasn't, necessarily. 90% chance the chinks got someone working there with a phishing email or one of those "hey i'm a 10/10 asian woman who's totally not a sockpuppet account operated by the chinese government, here's some nudes, ignore the .exe" linkedin tricks. then they moved through the network, added exceptions in the company's security software (if there was any) and extracted data at night.
Adam Bailey
The Russians hijacked the election by exposing how hillbag hijacked the election.
Anthony Morris
Full air gapping is virtually impossible. Imagine having to coordinate with a dozen other contractors and subcontractors across a dozen states on specifications. You'd have to send specifications, troubleshoot, ask and explain, and maybe even send diagrams.
Lincoln Barnes
China doesn’t have anything worth stealing.
Hunter Moore
when will america say enough is enough with this constant cyber warfare thing?
Colton Scott
If countries decided cyber warfare was the same as launching an attack, almost every country in the world would instantly go to war with most others.
for the communist party to go out to the public and say, hey, we got hacked and lost all this stuff, that would be tremendously embarrassing
Grayson Gray
What "existing weapon system with an existing Navy platform" would fit the bill for a supersonic AShM?
Evan Flores
>Idiot NEETS on Jow Forums thinking it's not going to be them fighting the war while the basedboys they cry about sit at home, banging their girls, and enjoying their jobs and college educations
Parker Reed
>The Chinese government systematically dismantled C.I.A. spying operations in the country starting in 2010, killing or imprisoning more than a dozen sources over two years and crippling intelligence gathering there for years afterward. Kind of a stupid question but how did China sniff out those spies? I mean it's not like there was "CIA" written on their foreheads or something.
Bentley Cooper
>stolen from a contractor, who kept the data unclassified despite the sensitivity of the information, i hope this contractor gets court marshaled for this
Kevin Morgan
this, but more than likely some chang left the job and copied his entire HD to a portable harddrive or personal cloud. this is one of the most common corporate espionage tactics. He probably did not even try to hide it. its the same thing that snowden and manning did
>i hope this contractor gets court marshaled for this only military can be court martialed, and it does not seem like criminal negligence will ever be punished as treason ever again. the worst that will happen is he will loose his credentials and get deported if a non citizen
Matthew Gonzalez
Mole CIA made the mistake of thinking american born Chinese would for some reason be loyal
Liam Reyes
>Chinese American helps run CIA operations in mainland China for years >Retires and starts a business in said nation he helped spy on, said business also does business with the communist party >Suddenly all of the CIA assets starts disappearing and being killed by the dozens >CIA suspects the Chinese American but ultimately clear him The CIA is fucking retarded
Sebastian Flores
When China has all the RnD they can finally be contracted to produce all the stuff as cheaply as they can. >Sweating Lockheed man
Oliver Miller
And we’ll keep having it until we get it right.
Zachary Nguyen
>No way the US Navy is this retarded. user, i think i have some bad news
The SM-6 isn't a secret. That is the US navys mach 3.5+ anti ship missile already in service.
Colton Reed
SM-6. They didn't say it was had an anti ship capability until about a year ago. But it had it all along (but you'd be stupid not to realize this as the SM-2 was used against iranian ships during operation praying mantis)
Noah Rodriguez
What western AShM do you know of that are 'existing and in service' as well as supersonic?
SM-6 wasn't an AShM when Sea Dragon was started.
Lincoln Cook
SM-6 needed modification to be used as an AShM.
Caleb Young
US mil doesn't hide missiles that are in service. It never has.
Wyatt Garcia
how would you know? they wouldn't use them against goat fuckers in afghanistan or iraq. i have no doubt they could keep a new weapon on subs or for B-2s a secret. They keep a B-2 at Edwards (and have a hangar for it at area 51) specifically for weapons testing,.. and i don't think they are working on jdams at area 51...
Mason Evans
>RT Sure...
Matthew Allen
>The Defense Department, citing classification levels, has released little information about Sea Dragon other than to say that it will introduce a “disruptive offensive capability” by “integrating an existing weapon system with an existing Navy platform.”
See, no new missile. What exactly this is, only Pentagon (and chinks.. kek) knows.
Liam Ortiz
An already existing missile that has been kept secret would be an existing weapon system...
Thomas Thomas
No, the most logical guess is that it's SM-6.
Aiden Jackson
It could be disinfo meant for China to find. Force China to waste resources designing defenses for a supersonic sub launched missile that doesn't actually exist. The US (and Soviets for that matter) fed false info to their opponent.
Asher Reyes
Anyone else find this wierd?
China has more impressive technology than what is stated to have been lost by America, China has already fielded superior supersonic missiles, why would it want data on supersonic missiles that aren't even on production and is stuck in development hell?
Truly it is believable that American media disclosed this news because the American military is held back by bureaucracy and corruption so it needs a scapegoat or someone to blame for their lack of inspiration and also to get more money from the American public.
An SM-6 is a possibility but treating it as the only option is not logical, especially when the military has several missiles that were in development that fit the timeframe of the Sea Dragon program.
area 51 is for the ayyys. now stfu, loose lips sink ships.
Christian Long
Would you like to know more about the enemy?
Dylan Perez
yes plz.
Levi Bailey
So i'm assuming that at the highest levels of government all of our secret super secret projects are written down on typewriters on paper and not digitized, right?
why do you think Jow Forums keeps all of their old tech?
Brayden Brooks
I mean in principle. You always seek to know more about the enemy or adversary. Hence the hacking/spying.
Jackson Edwards
>How the fuck did this happen? Companies have weak security on purpose. If China "steals" their tech then it gives the US government a reason to hire the same company again to create a new system to defend against the stolen tech. The government needs a "three strikes" rule or something that auto bans contractors who keep failing to keep secrets.
Hudson Howard
What if the security is weak on purpose because it's indended to be stolen? What if it's all wrong and vastly over or understates the capabilies of the Navy just so that when China steals it they get misinformation?
Falsifying 600GB of data is beyond what the US retards are willing or capable to do.
Subcontractors have shitty security. Literally entry level.
Jace Stewart
> Taiwan
Oh boy, turns out Taiwan really is a part of China.
Eli Gomez
You can sure believe that.
Luke Miller
Different interpretations on politics, but same pride in the Chinese race and civilization.
The US and Japan understands this, which is why they are supporting mongrel pan-green elements in Taiwan who are now attempting to destroy Chinese indentity itself.
Cooper Fisher
When the Soviets discovered the CIA wiretapping their embassy in Berlin during the cold war they left it alone and kept using the compromised line for some time. Only after the glow-in-the-dark niggers had recorded a mountain of tapes did the Soviets come out and bust the wiretapping site. I bet the KGB was very busy making up bullshit for the CIA to record.
Nathan Ramirez
VELLY IMPLESSIVE!
Dylan Smith
that's what a lot of people here also said about the RQ-170 the iranians captured
I have 600+GB of porns and hentai mangas, but it took me years to collect them.
Samuel Hall
>hey let's conduct a massive disinfo campaign spanning dozens of contractors and subcontractors and swear them to secrecy
Benjamin Long
It's called turning an asset. The real data is safe in US hands. The phoney data that details how the US navy has death rays with unlimited range is what the Chinese hackers were allowed to steal.
Adrian Cruz
desperate
Leo Kelly
Desperate.
Andrew Cruz
I mean it's incredibly improbable. And dangerous. If whatever segmentation you use between your fake and real network fails, you're fucked.
Michael Rogers
Makes no sense, it's just delusional damage control
Aaron Green
Even if everything is just fake, it would be easily visible when evaluating the data. Way easier and faster than creating the wrong data
Camden Jones
Why would we steal our own shit?
Colton Roberts
The fact that is so improbable is why it would work so well.
Adam Lopez
The fact that what you're saying is so improbable and yet you force yourself to believe in it shows that your mental capacity should be below 18 years old. I suggest you gtfo first and come back later when you're not as autistic as you sound.
Austin Richardson
The sad part is, if you look through old news articles, you'll see its not just the Navy.
Evan Myers
I don't believe it to be the certain truth, Wasabie. I simply think it's a small possibility that would be devilish if true. China would never expect it.
