What is the point of this thread
I mean fuck how is this supposed to be entertaining
Talk about military parades I suppose.
Because it isn't that kind of parade.
Trooping the Colour (the parade that's just happened) is about about silly hats, drill and brass for the Queen's official birthday.
I like that they use the l85 in things like this
>traditional uniform with gay plastic rifle
gross
Yeah, let's use old and busted Lee Enfields because ????
style
that we do brother! Praise Allah!
Germans don't have one, neither Prussian nor the other 100 ones they had.
These parades arent meant to be entertaining, they are a tradition.
What's the point of a tradition if it's fucking boring
Same reason they still wear the old uniforms. It wouldn't be hard to keep a few hundred deactivated lee enfields or SLR's fof ceremonial purposes.
Not all things need to be entertaining. Its only a bonus if they end up being entertaining but that is not their core focus in this case.
There aren't any left, but they should have kept some for drill because they aren't ugly as shit and they were actually good rifles which deserve to be preserved vs a crap one that took decades to preform just satisfactory.
> i know absolutely nothing about the subject matter so ill just spew memes
Theres literally warehouses full of Lee Enfields and SLRs. L85A2 is also a very reliable and accurate rifle, despite its predecessor. Also theres hardly any plastic on it, literally the pistol grip, handguard and cheek rest.
Because michael bay doesnt do british military parades, and neither should he.
Doesn't fucking matter if there are none in unit armouries, which there aren't in any that I've ever seen or known about outside maybe SASC or something. And the L85 is a hateful piece of shit, it's no more accurate or reliable than other NATO rifles, it's built like dogshit, handles like dogshit and I hated it during my admittedly short 6+ years in Army where I definitely knew "absolutely nothing about the subject...". The L85 looks like an arse too; which obviously makes it perfectly suited for drill, and since deill certainly isn't full of other old/special purpose/not used anymore uniforms and accouterments there really isn't a case for an old, better looking and more fitting rifle.
But whatever, drill and all that goes with it is for redcoats. Generally a waste of time except in its simplest and most basic form for the purpose of traditional dignity at important events, like memorials. Stuff like this rips the arse out of it, Guards must be brain damaged.
Please fuck off and stay fucked off.
Driving fleets of tanks and shit down the streets is a strongman dictator move. If my country started doing that I'd view it as the beginning fo the end because on totalitarian shitholes do it.
>totalitarian shitholes do it.
So like Britain then? And I'm a bong myself, before you kick off.
I agree about the L85s being ugly but you have to remember that these parades are identical and have been for centuries. It's nice to see old ones with SLRs, Lee Enfields etc. It makes dates them. It'll be fun to watch one in fuck knows however many decades when they have a nice new rifle.
>It makes dates them
Honestly with the way the army and the country is going looking like the better past certainly isn't a bad thing.
I heard all the Lee Enfields that weren't sold privately went to India anyway but I'm probably wrong.
There are storage depots with all sorts of things in them, probably some L42s and stuff, I'm not actually sure if there are No4s or SMLEs in there but I wouldn't be surprised. I'm not aware of any 'normal' unit which has them on strength and so could use them for drill, and I started out in a TA REMF unit which still had Hi-Powers from like the 60s. The only times I've ever seen them in the Army were as prizes and trophies for awarding (shooting comps etc) and some hung on the walls of HQs, Coy offices and the armoury at Catterick.
I think most were sold off, given away, destroyed or converted to something else. I mean we dumped literally millions of rounds of .303 into the ocean when it went out of service, which was fully retarded since the War Office (or was it the MoD by then?) could have sold it to the hundreds of thousands of Enfield target shooters across the UK and Common Wealth; it wasn't even click-bang at that time.
So what did you get AGAI'd and binned for, being an utter muppet?
> spent a few years as a STAB REMF
Opinion utterly discarded, you seem pretty assmad about the whole thing mate.
Assuming youre , if not my bad mate.
afaik the real reason they use L85's is because the units(Household) in question are in fact fully operational units
the role they fulfill every now and then (iirc there are 6 different units in the Household) is ceremonial but they see deployment from time to time and i'd say that using the current service rifle reflects this
Exactly. Its an active infantry unit using their current service rifle. The bearskins and that are part of their traditional uniform, rifles never were as it obviously changes over time.
>Britain
>Not a dictatorship
Dude you arrest people for saying mean things or trolling on twitter, that's a pretty dictatorial thing to do.
And yet on the freedom index the UK is tied 9th in the world while the US is 17th.
>caring about pageantry
fag
they could use FALs
Your suppositions don't look too good next to my facts.
>started out
Reading comprehension. I even made references to companies and ITC. And which STAB unit do you know that uses the term 'redcoat'? You've got some double digit IQ.
What facts would those be? It all sounds like whiny opinion of an assmad STAB to me. And making reference to Catterick doesnt mean shit, I could say 'oh Ive seen X at Hereford' but it doesnt mean im in the SAS.
You just seem like a bitter buttblasted twat who likely got beat up by some guardsmen.
Boring is Britain's tagline, why do you think they go invading so many countries?
This, just because you can name drop doesn't give you creditability.
t. Second man on the balcony in the Iranian embassy siege
Exactly. Ive also heard a TA infantry sprog call people hats, doesnt mean hes suddenly a para.
That it's a poorly designed piece of shit and poorly made too. Do you own your own guns too? Probably not (get the fuck off Jow Forums). When you know something about rifles and you pick up and L85 you immediately register it as a piece of shit; right from the moment the receiver rattles around on the TMH. The handguard, gasblock and retaining-screw-come-sling-swivel arrangement fucking retarded in the extreme and it's amazing that it manages to be sub 2MOA at all. The sling swivel screw will come loose in use no matter how much you torque it down, requiring it to be checked often and it's not uncommon for the picatinny that they idiotically mounted onto the integral rail to come loose. At which point some mong will wonder why he can't zero his shit; well the whole fucking sight base and all is loose. Even the shitty, ancient FAMAS' they French saddled us with when I went to CENZUB had a better trigger.
The trigger is the absolute worst thing I have ever felt with the exception of a 1908 War Office Pattern BSA .22lr that I stupidly bought because it had pretty aged brass and Walnut. All of my Lee Enfields have had triggers that shit on the L85 despite some of them being hung from a fucking trigger guard, to say nothing my Swedes which are more than a century old. I honestly didn't know that you could make a trigger feel that mushy, creepy and unclean until I first fired an L85. You have to take a long time getting used to it and really nurse the shitty thing to get even a reasonable trigger pull.
You're going to tell me again it's reliable; so are much better rifles and more so, you're going to tell me it's accurate; but it's middle of the road. You're going to ignore the fact it's ergonomic like a brick and has shit modularity. Then you're going to realise you've got nothing else to say about it. Just because it's British does not mean you have to defend it when it doesn't deserve to be defended.
> autistic sperging to try and show that youre some sort of authority on firearms
Yawn. Ive shot a multitude of rifles and weapons, including Diemacos and AK pattern rifles. Ive used the L85A2 on tours and it has never let me down. In that effect, it was both reliable and accurate, and I would gladly take it into combat again. I actually prefer it to the Diemaco for a host of reasons, but mainly weight distribution and ease of drills.
You rambling on like an utter lunatic just further proves that youre some odd cunt with a massive stick up his arse for some reason with a penchant for hating on guards and SA80s youve clearly never taken anywhere except the ranges or Pirbright.
What I'm doing is making an argument, you're not; you haven't actually refuted any of the technical claims I've made against it or demonstrated that I'm wrong in any way whatsoever. All you've done is try to convince me I'm an arsehole. If arguing a point like a person with a functional brain is rambling and boring you then I'm not going to waste any more time on this.
It took over half of its service life just to make it useable. That shouldn't be good enough. The thing is rubbish and you're a noguns idiot.
What youre doing is saying 'WAAAH I DONT LIKE THIS BIT AND THIS BIT AND THIS BIT' and construing your fee fees as the truth of all SA80 rifles. Just as much as you say you had one that rattled and was shit I can say I had one that didnt rattle and was good. The trigger might be sloppy by your opinion but it works fine in mine, because the rifle does its job well and im not a whiny cunt. Its not meant to be a $5000 competition rifle. You then try and compare bullpups to bolt action rifles for reasons only known to yourself. If theyre so much better, why isnt every army rocking up with SMLEs?
Whatever, go larp on arrse pretending to be a falklands veteran or something, because youre just making a tit of yourself by sperging so hard.
Looks pretty stupid to me.
>SLRs.
there fucking aren't. they tried to dig them up as a dmr during the gwot and found theyd either given them all away or they were fuck rusted out. that's why they bought the lmt.
they use the current issue rifle, always. because these are fucking combat units, not sole-purpose dress formations with nothing out to do.
SLR is fucking 3 MOA what the fuck were they thinking
>At least they still have their culture
They used to. Not anymore.
