Kind of an obscure request, and I don't often use this board so please let me know if this is against board etiquette or something.
I'm an artist/comicker and sometimes my art includes guns. It is VERY difficult to find proper reference material for the way guns are held in the hand from certain points of view. Right now, I'm looking for reference of people holding (ideally one handed) pistols, or any gun that can be shot one handed, with the gun facing away from the camera on a slight angle. This picture is the only one I could find after hours of searching google images. If anyone has pictures of guns being held in a similar pose to this, I would immensely appreciate it. Same goes for if you'd be willing to take a quick picture for me of you holding your own weapons like that. The perfect position for my purpose would be slightly more facing away from the camera than this picture.
Until I get some responses I'll dump some guns that I really like the design of to return the favor. Thanks Jow Forums.
I am a fan of bullpups from an aesthetic point of view. Love how futuristic some of them look compared to other rifles. I use them quite often in drawings.
I don't want to be that guy, but if you live in a state that makes it reasonably accessible - just go to a range. Pay the range fee and have an instructor give you a rundown. Or join your state's Jow Forums discord and make friends with someone who would take you to a range and give you some advice. Real, practical experience is super duper.
Or, if you're a devout poorfag, as your profession would imply, watch youtube videos - Military Arms Channel, Hickock45, etc. Lots of good profile shots on those.

Yes, but i need it from the other side. outside of forearm towards the camera. Might be hard to take a picture like that on your own.
Either way, that one helps me too as I could always use more reference material for this subject. Thanks man

Usually what i'd do is just use my own pistol for reference, but I recently moved to a very liberal major city and had to sell it. Just seems kind of awkward to go to a range for the sole purpose of posing for photos. Might do that if I end up not finding what I need in the next day or so, though.
Revolver would be awesome if you don't mind. And nah, most of the more common angles I can find with a google search. Thanks dude.
It's for art, specifically for a scumbagish gang member character that isn't supposed to be a well-trained gunman. Everybody knows one handing a pistol isn't the best thing to do. Calm yer nips.
Christopher Ramirez
>scumbagish gang member character that isn't supposed to be a well-trained gunman here's what you're looking for
Guess the transfer bar is not visible from that angle anyway. Finally, a reload from the left side. Note 3 fingers pushing cylinder through frame and holding it in place while the thumb actuates the ejector rod.
Before I go looking for some .38 brass let me show you a little bonus. Since your character is a gangster how about a gangster gun. A genuine Hi-Point (complete with some dirt from a shooting trip to the desert I forgot to clean off).
Ruger loaded with snap caps. You can clearly see the rims peeking out from the edge of the cylinder. They're red rather than brass colored to show that it's not live ammunition, so you'll have to pallet-swap when you draw it.
you cool with me editing these into an infographic weapon reference thing for artists? I know a good amount of folks who are looking for photo sets as in depth as this.
I'll credit your trip for the photos if it gets shared/popular/etc
Ryan Baker
There's a flare on the left side of the shield to allow the star to swing into position, but no such thing exists on the other side so no rims are visible.
Instead of having us do your work for you, have you tried studying the kinesthetic motion of firearms using expert source material that's freely available all over YouTube in the form of "how to shoot a gun" videos?
Christian Robinson
You're a deadset Champion, Resident Wumbologist. 10/10

Reload with snap caps. Of course, go for it. It's not comprehensive, but I'm always happy to help and contribute so if it goes farther and helps someone else so much the better.
My brother is an illustrator and I remember posing/helping him reference things all the time although of course I was never did so professionally.
I'm actually not so much looking for guns, motion and firing as I am for hand positions and how a hand fits around the grip.
Resident is just going above & beyond, he's a bro. It's not 'doing my job for me'. My job is drawing shit. Need reference material to properly draw shit, and still photos, when you can't attain them yourself, are generally sourced from the internet. Couldn't find what I was looking for so I asked, and people are being pretty awesome and helping me out.

And finally a speed loader. Note while it holds the same number of shots in the same caliber it's a bigger loader, because on the S&W the chambers are farther apart. The speed loaders between these two revolvers are not cross-compatible.
Note also my hands aren't like everyone else's hands. I'm very tall and very skinny, so naturally I have fairly large hands with long fingers but they are very skinny and bony.
Not every character would look exactly the same gripping this sample set of guns. They might have fatter fingers that obscure more or shorter ones that struggle to get a good grip/reach everything. I assume you know all of this already if you've spent a lot of time drawing people in detail.
Anyway last call for any angle/action you'd like while I still have everything out.
Got the Glock, Hi-Point, S&W and Ruger.

This is more than enough, way more than I expected anyone to do for me. Thanks so much dude, this is an immense amount of stuff for me to study and use. Should keep me good for quite some time.
pls o pls. That's a sikh. They have nothing to do with muslims besides that they're both brown and generally from third world hell holes.
Nicholas Adams
I got no problem with that. He could use it for rule 34 if he wanted to. It's not my face or anything.

I also have an M1A, Browning BLR, Mossberg 500, CZ 452, Iver Johnson Champion and pretty soon a Kel-Tec SU-16 CA that can be used and I can take detailed photos of weird parts/angles. Will probably have to get help from my GF holding the camera for any complicated pose/angle.
I also have an airsoft L85A1 I can pose with, but of course it's an airsoft so it's not going to be 100% accurate.
