Astronauts

Why are only commissioned officers and warrant officers allowed in space? All countries block their enlisted personnel from going up. Why? Is the intelligence/work ethic gap that pronounced?

IIRC air force or army allows enlisted, but there have never been any, the requirement is a degree and several years experience in the field, which most people do not have

>which most people do not have

Ahh, the work ethic gap is indeed real.

Intelligence, yes. The people who get sent up are extremely specialized and highly educated. When it comes to the space station for example, the people who get sent up there are chosen in part for the research that they will conduct during their stay.

Once installations in space become larger, then we'll start sending up people solely for more menial tasks but it does not make sense now.

most military positions go more towards the pilot side (having extensive test flight training) while most astronaut technicians come from the civilian side (engineers/teachers/scientists)

Because as a rule the enlisted of any given branch are high-functioning alcoholics participating in the worlds largest job corps and longest running episode of Jerry Springer, who largely couldn't spell something like "Adjunct Matrix", let alone actually deal with one. This may be slightly less pronounced in demanding MOSes like intel where real fuck ups get tossed for clearance issues, or the Air Force where they have the supply to replace the idiots they bounce but as a prevailing rule it holds true.

Enlisted personnel as a rule are Southern fly over trash that thought Trump was a good idea or inner city minorities, both of which hold the common qualities of being neither smart nor well educated. You need both to be an astronaut.

USAF enlisted can apply to be an astronaut (if they meet the requirements).
