I love the 1911 platform but capacity and the small difference between 45 and 9 mm made me edc a 9 mm. I was shocked to find that 10 mm is only a few cents more expensive than 45 so I’ve been wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze or if 10 mm is just an overhyped meme. Are 10 mm guns prone to breaking and with less reliable track records? Is 10 mm a good gun for being in the woods as a sidearm? Or is 9 mm still king?
9 mm vs 10 millimeme
10mm is best mm. Glock 20 is doing fine.
9mm is a creepy little cartridge that serves no real purpose.
9mm is a round that was picked for financial reasons by departments that has been picked by poorfags for poverty reasons. People who want a good defensive round pick the .40 S&W
>the juice is worth the squeeze or if 10 mm is just an overhyped meme.
Both, depends on what you want to do with it. It suffers from a lack of good loadings with bullets under 180grs due to them almost universally employing .40 S&W bullets way outside of their velocity envelope.
>Are 10 mm guns prone to breaking and with less reliable track records?
Earlier 10mm 1911 pattern handguns did have wear and parts breakage issues like cracked slides on the delta elites IIRC. Supposedly these have been hammered out over the years and frankly im no expert on the 1911 but i'd still expect it to wear faster than a .45 or 9mm one.
>Is 10 mm a good gun for being in the woods as a sidearm?
This is what 10mm is best at.
>Or is 9 mm still king?
Never was unless you're a capacity fag.
10 millimeme 1911s are Appearently amazing. My dad is a glock fag and he went shooting with a buddy who had a 10mm 1911 and he said it was stacking shots.
>.40 Short and Weak
They are amazing. Wouldn’t trade my SR1911 in 10mm for any 1911 in .45aarp at all.
What 10 mm pistols or rifles would you recommend?
Glock 20 for open carry, glock 29 for concealment... don't get a 10mm rifle, that's really dumb
This . I'm not much of a glock fanboy but it's the only 10mm gun I'd get. Steel frame 10mm's loaded to its capabilities don't do well (frame cracking). Also G20/29's can safely and reliably shoot 40SW without modifications.
Red pill me on this
If you love the 1911 platform, you owe it to yourself to get one in either 10mm or 9x25.
I know it's not real practical, but I can't escape the idea that a 10mm levergat (20" or so barrel, full-length mag) would be a whole lot of fun, just for the ludicrous capacity. (Especially if designed to reliably handle .40, headspacing on the extractor -- you'd get an extra round or two that way.)
No, it doesn't quite keep up with .357mag in long barrels, but it's a little better than, say, standard-pressure 44-40 or .45colt, and definitely better than a 9mm PCC. (And while 10mm doesn't have the case capacity for really shine in a rifle, I'm sure you could spice it up a bit with some "rifle-only" handloads for a strong lever-action.)
The only time 10mm outperforms the big three is when you buy buffalo bore shit. It's a fucking meme. 357Sig is the best choice for performance. 45acp is the patrician choice because it has the best recoil and double taps.
You know, there are other bullet types other than FMJ right? The other tips are pretty damn effective at stopping someone.
>Fuddy five
>Less capacity
>Less energy
>Less velocity
Truly a better choice than 10mm.
For roughly the same price you can get a Dan Wesson Razorback and not wait 14 months.
Makes a bigger hole
My dick makes a bigger hole in your wife's cunt.
Right but...why wouldn't you use the Buffalo Bore shit in real life? I'll plink away with full power garbage to improve my skills, but when my Razorback isn't on range its got the Buffalo.
Blow your head off bitch
>I’ve been wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze or if 10 mm is just an overhyped meme
I've owned both a G20 and a G29 in the past and liked them, I currently own a Razorback. 10mm is a big round and theres definitely a noticeable difference in power. Whether thats going to translate to more effect out in the real world is a debate for guys who almost certainly know what ballistic gel feels like around their penis.
>Are 10 mm guns prone to breaking and with less reliable track records?
Some of the old Smith & Wessons had this problem, as did some of the Bren 10s and some of the old Deltas. I'd do a lot of research before buying those. The Glocks are kill proof. I've never heard of those problems with any of the big name 10mm 1911s made in the last 20 years. Go with a Glock, a Delta, or a Razorback if you're worried, they'll be fine.
>Is 10 mm a good gun for being in the woods as a sidearm?
Outside of Alaska I'd say yes. I know guys who hunt black bears with G20s. I wouldn't trust my aim that much, but it happens.
Fucking destroyed
Whats a good 10mm starter pistol?
why not 11.43 millimeme?
I don't fall for the memes and I only carry fmj. I don't know why so many people think they need to pay 1 dollar a round.
In terms of new production, your options are pretty limited:
Not a 1911
>EAA Witness
>Glock 20, 29, 40
>Sig P220
1911
>Rock Island Tac
>Colt Delta Elite
>Dan Wesson Razorback
>Para Elite LS Hunter
>Kimber does a couple
>Wilson does a couple
As far as starter goes, I'd say Glock because its the cheapest and probably the most reliable. The 1911s are, well, 1911s and you can pretty much expect from the 10mms what you would expect from anything else a given company puts out.
>I only carry FMJ
Are you somehow bound by Geneva?
There's also the Elite Warrior Armament CSP if you're willing to spend 3500 dollars on one of the three or so left from the limited production run.
Yes I'm mad.
Colt Delta Elite is the original .40 1911. Forgotten Weapons just did a video on it, actually. You can get them for around 1200. Pretty sure Sig makes .40 1911s too.
What are you so afraid of?
>Le geneva convention bans hollow points
The hague convention should ban you from breathing.
9mm was a stopgap solution because the 7.65x21mm was underpowered so Luger's solution was just a heavier bullet and a trimmed case.
Federal HST and Hornady XTP are GOD TEIR in 10mm.
You obviously need a GLAWK FORTAY with 30 round assault clips.
For real though, I've shot a 40 and a 29, and the 29 is surprisingly very shootable. Now, most cheap shit 10mm out there is essentially bitch FBI loads that are equivalent to .40 s&w. The cheapest 10mm that is almost Norma load would be the sig elite stuff.
Its fair to be mad over that debacle, but what did you really expect from a tiny custom shop?
Also, thats definitely not a starter 10mm.
>357Sig is the best choice for performance.
the only correct thing in that post IME.
(you)
If you’re paying for that cheap of ammo you can garuntee it is expensive 45 price for 40 ballistics
And this is the case for almost all ammo makers for 10 mil despite the shills that are about to come in and rant about their custom boutique ammo and how cheap it is at $2 a round
You’re better off with 9
SHOTS FIRED
I live in Chicago, so...
Well fuck me thats what I get for coming to Jow Forums drunk. Noted, sir.
So if I'm looking for a cheaper pistol for concealed 10mm is out the question? That sucks.
Did you mod a G21 mag? Cause if you didn't tell me where to buy.
This. Modern 10mm is just .40 using viagra. Shit's weak and fake.
You're right, it's THE starter 10mm.
Glock 29 is compact and inexpensive.
When are you putting a red dot on that?
You got me there.
Stop fucking talking. 9mm fags deserve to fucking die, your shit round has failed REPEATEDLY to put people down when it matters and yet you harp about "ease of training and cheapest ammo", bitch if the FBI went with .38 super or ordered their agents to carry .357 they'd still be alive.
It's a mag extension for a 21 mag from kriss. It fits the 20/40 mag, but you have to squeeze the top of the spring down a bit and sand the inside of the mag body down a bit so the spring doesn't catch.
When I'm not poor.
>Federal HST
Is that even a thing? there aren't any factory loadings of that i can find and the only tests i can find of hand loaded 180s had 11.7" and .14.4" of penetration. Great expansion but low penetration on the first one, last one was quite good but questions whether it's repeatable reliably.
>Hornady XTP
Pretty good north of 180gr as i mentioned previously. The 155s are lackluster.
Why are 10mm niggers such whiny bitches when they get called out?
>if the FBI went with .38 super or ordered their agents to carry .357 they'd still be alive.
That is perhaps the single best argument for 9mm I've ever read.
Because this is Jow Forums and everyone is a whiny bitch when talking about calibers.
For people bitching about ammo, for real, get some SIG Sauer® Elite Performance Ammunition. Works great in both of my GLAWK FORTAYS
>I live in Chicago
They kill each other with all kinds of weak shit every day. You could learn from them.
Light 10mm is a meme, 180gr and 200gr are perfect, but if you insist 155gr Gold Dots do well in expansion but not pen.
>niggers
>9mm
>literally a nigger caliber
Maybe we load our own ammo or buy shit that isn't churned out in mass quantities just to sell.
>FBI agents actually doing their job vs 90's Stormtroopers
Please buy a exit bag.
Yeah, but they wound each other 8 or 9 times a day.
Its cute that you think the new boss ain't the same as the old boss or that anything at all would change in the flash he got in the pan even if he wasn't lying to you.
But 10mm is the choice of negroid
>implying FBI directors are all the same
Whew lad.
That 9mm xtp is seated waaaaaaaay too far out.. That is a load for a dirty slut of a pistol...
Was kinda my point in south of 180grs 10mm really runs into issues. IIRC 165gr GDHPs aren't terrible but still thoroughly mediocre and that's the closest 10mm gets to good light and fast loadings. Pretty much the major reason i don't bother with the caliber for my own personal use. .357 sig seems to be the king of the hill for light weight high velocity performance out of a modern auto loader these days when it comes to handgun rounds. 9x25 dillon is technically a little better on paper but runs into the same bullet issues as 10mm, no clue why boutique manufacturers insist on using 9mm bullets for it.
>not wait 14 months
I've been seeing them everywhere for years.
Holy fuck
how does the G29 recoil with hotter loaded cartridges?
I have the G20 and while a stiffer spring dialed down the slide flying back like a motherfucker on the higher Underwood loads, the recoil is not light.
Only reason I like the 10mm is that it isn't fat as fuck like the .45acp and it isn't long as fuck like the .357 mag.
So it's a comfortable autoloading pistol cartridge that can touch the lower end of the big bore wheelgat bullets, but with a lot more rounds than a wheelgat in a much smaller package without sacrificing the barrel length.
I really don't see the purpose of a 10mm in a long gun format other than novelty. If we're going long guns, why not just go with long gun ammo at that point.
10 mm is 30 cents a round roughly
Hahaha shit
Real talk,how bad is 10 m recoil?
*10 mm
Straight muzzle flip worse than 40 and 9mm
Spotted the Manlet
Buffalo Bore 220g at 1350fps is some power.
10 M?
10000mm ?
>He doesn't have a Glock 20000
That has nothing to do with muzzle flip dumb fuck
Where did you get those mags
Yea I love mine. Did you change out the sights? I don't like how they're all black
>I have the G20
Feels the same to me.
You can’t control your pistol, buttercup
10mm is beter then 45
No the guns don’t break.
>Or is 9 mm still king?
KEK When was 9mm ever king?
The last decade+
Innawoods I would rather have some hot 230gr hardcast than any 9mm.
King at what?
You're fucking retarded.
>.45aarp
Still gets a giggle every time.
Rekt & keked.
>recoil?
Absolutely wrist wrecking user. Wrist Wrecking
did you upgrade the spring on that, or is that a stock glock 29?
I'm planning on buying one before my move to Colorado, I'm not sure which of the two I should get. It would be for CC, but also woods carry.
F
>tfw no good 10mm PCC's out
>tfw CZ will never make a 10mm Scorpion
>did you upgrade the spring on that,
No and the only thing it has is a 3 1/2 lb connector.
Leave
Just like any other caliber, recoil will vary based on the weight of the firearm. 10mm out of a 30oz Glock 29 is going to have significantly more recoil than out of a 42oz 1911 style pistol. I own a Sig Tacops 1911 in 10mm and I notice little recoil difference between it and other 1911's chambered in .45acp
Those are .45 Win Mag made into .45 APC blanks.
You have to make them. Use tbell kriss vector 45acp conversion and some permanent modification to the mag and they work great. I've never had or seen them jam or have issues
