Post your retro builds

Just ordered my upper and barrel for a model 604 build, can't wait. Should look like this when done

My Retro Colt M231 Port Firing Weapon reproduction.
I got the M231 parts off gunbroker and the rest are a mix of original M16A1 internal parts and Brownell's retro parts.
The stock assembly has been fitted and now just needs to be test fired and finished.

Who else ponyoptic

Attached: 20180512_141111.jpg (3264x1836, 1.97M)

it's not much but it's my attempt at a Colt733

Incorrect port door and black buffer tube sets off the autism

Do you guys prefer A1 or A2? I like both but i love the triangle handguard

Attached: 1528767313256m.jpg (768x1024, 142K)

The A2 is an abortion, an affront to God.

Brownells stripped upper, lower, and 1:12 barrel assembly. DPMS/CMMG/USGI small parts; USGI furniture.

A couple things on it aren't correct: it has A2 port door, buttplate, safety and front sight.

Attached: IMG_5088.jpg (1200x1600, 1.49M)

A1 on the right is mine.
Milsurp Colt parts kit on a nodak lower, 1:12 twist.
Not pictued: Colt aluminum follower mags.

pic is from when I had a placeholder receiver prior to getting my nodak in.

What optic(?) is that?

Fulton build from a few years ago. Always meant to correct some of the errors but never got around to it. Shoots fine.

Here’s my retro setup, I only have the a2 upper cause one of my friends sold it to me for 30 bucks so I figured why not

Attached: 3D418082-1040-44EC-AD47-97C7574109B1.jpg (2592x1936, 1.24M)

It's an old LC-7-40-M16 sight made by Ringsights (the same people who made the factory optics for the P90 and PS90.)
It was apparently made for the M16A3 specifically, but was only used by foreign countries as the only place you can seem to find them is in Britbongland.
I'm not sure on the history behind them, all I know is that they are military surplus M16A3 sights that you can get for pretty cheap (got it for $40 off the bongland version of ebay.)
The tritium is pretty much all gone by now so I'm trying to figure out a way to illuminate it like with the REM T3 kits that are made for the old P90 tritium Ringsights.

Attached: tsr_655.jpg (1024x680, 39K)

How reee inducing is trying to get A1 handguards to fit around an HBAR? MD laws are fucked but I want to build a pseudo A1. Was going to build a 606 but I'm not sure I want to buy a partial fence receiver.

Neat. Retro sights are cool as fuck.

Attached: IMG_4629.jpg (1600x1200, 1.19M)

Yeah, I wanted to put some sort of retro sight on it since there's no front sight,
but I also wanted something more low-profile than the old Colt carry handle scopes.
So this seemed like the perfect sight for it.

Hyped for my AK-47 (>Inb4 "No such thing.") kit to come in. All matching #s torch cut 1957 type 3.

Not until I get it welded together and built.

Attached: 0519182123.jpg (1920x2560, 940K)

I like the A1 the most, but the A2 has a bit of charm to it.
I also like some of the inbetween stuff.

Freefloated midweight barrel and wood furniture, weighs in at 9 1/2 pounds unloaded. Always gets looks at the range though.

I used an alg qms, suprisingly smooth for the price

Nice quads.
>Freefloated midweight barrel
Can you explain how you did this?

>nice quads
Lol I wish that's just infosec
As for freefloating, I used a national match freefloat tube like pic related. Normal handguards, much less wood ones, don't fit on it. I lucked out and got a set from a blackgunswood experimental run, otherwise you'd need a lot of grinding.

Attached: NationalMatchAR-5.jpg (1000x667, 123K)

>604
>3 prong and a full fence lower
No, don't fuck it up. Get a birdcage.

I need a website for that ringsight! I didn’t order one 2 months ago when I found a supplier and now that supplier dried up.

>I used a national match freefloat tube like pic related. Normal handguards, much less wood ones, don't fit on it. I lucked out and got a set from a blackgunswood experimental run
Neat; thanks user.

BRRAAAAAAAAAPP

Late coltRO733 build Waiting on the stamp, and ill get the lower engraved then. In the meantime it lives as a pistol.

Attached: M733.jpg (1384x3692, 2.53M)

Nice. I can see the tailhook mod2 looking appropriate on that honestly.

With the green handguard, you almost gotta get a green pistol grip and green stock, too.

I have a gen 1 green aluminium car stock. I may have to make the green grip
i got a bunch of these kak kits for 60 each cyber monday, came with tube buffer spring back plate and brace.

Holy shit bro, im also doing a 604 build, but not 100% clone, just the style and look pretty much the same.

>Nodak 601 upper
>aero lower(604 had full fence)
>cryptic nib bcg
>triangle CH like on the 601
>faxon gunner pencil barrel 1:8 20in
>sei vortex FH
>geissle sd e trigger
>FA A1 stock, grip, and handguard
>going to have everything cerakoted dark grey.

If it wasnt for the fucking barrel profile, i would love the A2

bump

how much did that build cost you? I've always been fascinated with that setup. do they even still issue them?

here's mine

Attached: Ba0NLP4.jpg (5344x4008, 3.93M)

impressive, very nice
did you paint on the number on the buttstock yourself?

Yooo

Attached: 20180622_123848.jpg (4032x1960, 1.73M)

Yes there is. Perhaps no more, but there was a forty-seventh AK built, thus that would be the AK-#47

I don't know the exact number, but I think it was roughly $1200-$1300 for the whole build.
To my knowledge these are still in service, but they don't issue them with the wire stocks anymore,
they got rid of them a long time ago to discourage soldiers from taking them out of the Bradleys, plus they got in the way a lot.

Attached: b96854065d24d16ed643d112da53e369.jpg (740x506, 37K)

Nah armory Stencil everything but the lower receiver is from an original A1 minus the giggle switch unfortunately.

Attached: Oxm9iq8.jpg (4008x5344, 2.76M)

Nice. Where'd you get the parts from? How much did it cost you total?

Are you boys wishing for nuclear winter yet?

Attached: 20180116_153602.jpg (4032x3024, 3.8M)

I built mine three years ago and got a full parts kit off of
>shop.ar15sport.ihoststores.com/category_v3.aspx?categoryid=91
Back then the kit only cost me ~600 then another 150 for the repro A1 lower, I just wish I waited and got one in XM grey but I was too impatient.

For the life of me I can’t find it on google, could you spoonfeed an user with a link?

this is the exact rifle i want to make for my father.

Sorry that's false information, I looked back at my invoice and I only payed 500 for the parts kit excluding the barrel on a site that doesn't appear to be active anymore and the barrel is actually a repro I bought off of gunbroker.

figured I'd ask here, since /arg/ is always a shitshow

If I'm building an AR, aside from the big parts like barrel, upper/lower, trigger, and furniture, what else do I need to have?
I know that there's alot of important small parts that go into the rifle, but I'm not really sure what to look for.

sorry If I sound retarded

Most of the small parts are on the lower receiver. You'd need a magazine catch assembly, bolt release assembly, trigger/hammer assembly, safety, front takedown pin assembly, rear takedown pin assembly, buffer retainer pin assembly, receiver extension and castle nut

Holy Shit, did you get that upper complete? Or did you piece it together?
I really want to build one, myself, but, as I understand it, the bbl length is just shy of 16" so I'd have to pin/weld the FH on if I wanted the correct OAL... And I wouldn't want to do that with an original upper/barrel but I haven't found the upper parts separately to try to piece one thing together.
Planning to get one of the selector side plates: They have them here: shop.ar15sport.ihoststores.com/productinfo_v3.aspx?productid=SURPLUS-PORT

Pic Related is my DOE Carbine in progress. Picked up a bbl and bbl nut, have an 80% from Nodak I want to use, but I need the 9mm magwell block and ejector and other lower/buffer parts. And the tax stamp...

Attached: 7632154912.jpg (2304x1728, 1.57M)

Oh and the buffer, buffer spring, grip, and grip screw

thank you user

does DPMS make good small parts?
surplusammo.com/products/dpms-ar-15-complete-lower-receiver-parts-kit.html

>DOE Carbine
I used mostly DPMS small parts in my A1 clone; they've worked fine so far.

Attached: IMG_4792.jpg (1600x1200, 909K)

You didn't specify it had to be a retro AR >:)

>no dimple
>non-fluted gas tube

reeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Bump

A bump for the retro aesthetic

Hey, figured I'd ask here because I fucking hate /arg/. I'm 20 years old and looking to build my first AR, which I'd like to be a retro A1 style build. What with all the Brownell's stuff out now, would it be better to assemble one from repro parts, or should I track down a parts kit for extra autism points?
Bonus question: Anybody have an A1 parts kit they'd be willing to part with?

Attached: 1528937694013.jpg (1024x640, 97K)

super nice bro. not much left to change out
>wanna say castle nut, not positive
>lower and grip
>slip ring

maybe it

You'd be install some ports into the walls all over your house to jam this thing through.

in the same boat as you actually. I compiled a parts list a while back, you're welcome to read through it. pretty sure i got everything on there. a few weeks old though, prices might have changed.

Forgot to mention that I factored in shipping and FFL fee info the prices, so it won't be the same for you.

A1 with A2 handguards are the way to go.
Pictured is mine

Question. Saw a Jeep at the Memorial Day parade. Talked to the owner, he had a full Vietnam era job on the Jeep. He was a Marine and did two tours there. Had a de-mil M60 on the mount. He had a rifle in the dash mount too. Looked at it closely but didn’t get to ask him about it. Was a Nodak lower with the M16 marking safe-semi-auto and a clear dimple for the federal-pound-you-in-the-ass hole. Even had the full Colt M16 roll marking on it. Did Nodak ever offer a really, really good M16 look a like lower?

Attached: 52E0F19C-63EE-44F4-8F58-D1F929DC16DF.jpg (521x390, 50K)

I just found it. This exactly. Hope he doesn’t own a dog...

google.com/search?q=nodak fake m16 lower&rlz=1C9BKJA_enUS698US698&oq=nodak fake m16 lower&aqs=chrome..69i57.9479j1j8&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=LJGdnFX8mzd-xM:

His did say “Nodak” for sure though.

if its fake, why would he get atf'd?

It was pieced together and the handguard assembly was actually a one-off reproduction kit I found on gunbroker, it isn't an original M231 gas-block/handguard retainer.
It's mounted on a standard 16" HBAR made by BCA so I don't have to worry about pining and welding the flash-hider to it.
The barrel length is so specific (15.6") and close enough to 16" anyways you won't even notice the difference.
I do have a few original NOS M231 parts including a stock mounting bracket, but I would need to have it fitted to the custom buffer tube.
Also, I have been waiting to have the stock refinished because I want to find one of those side-plates first and have it professionally fitted to the receiver by John Thomas from RetroArmsWorks and have him refinish the stock assembly at the same time.
Unfortunately ar15sport hasn't gotten those sideplates back in stock for a long time, I've been keeping an eye on them for a while and they've been on "backorder" for over 6 months now.
I'm kind of pissed that I didn't get one sooner since I had the chance too, but I waited since I hadn't actually planned on doing the M231 build yet, and now they're OOS.
I'm gonna try e-mailing them to see if they will actually get more back in stock ever.

user, you can't just open a conversation like that.

I have a complete (sans stock) A2 lower laying around. Someone rec me something retro to do with it.

Baptized in the blood of dead commies. Story?

What book is that?

Nice man!

Not that other user, but looking to build a retro

Thanks, user!

holy shit man how did you get that?

I'm slowly working my way towards a 733 too.

Attached: 20180527_002411.jpg (3719x2092, 1.97M)

Timestamp or fuck off

the beauty of the 733 is that you can mix A1 and A2 parts because Colt did the same to use up their old inventory

could be a dealer sample

or he just went ahead and spent the cash for an M16 lower

Got this baby for less than 2k btw, had it from a british dude who got it from a vet an brought it over here in switzerland

Attached: image.jpg (4032x3024, 2.87M)

looks like you forgot your auto sear mate

My 1980 SP1

Attached: image.jpg (4032x3024, 1.99M)

I stand corrected, user.
>Switzerland
Well that explains it. Humblest apologies Swiss user, I thought you were a native burger.
Nice rifle.

Looks like you dont know what you’re talking aboute mate

Attached: image.jpg (4032x3024, 1.89M)

your first pic looks like the pin isn't inserted

I'm going for a Heat clone so I really wanted the C7/M16E1 upper. The Heat 733s had A2 lowers which means I'll probably use the A1 lower for something else, maybe a IDF carbine which were also a lot of Colt mix and match.

Attached: idfFrankenColt.jpg (912x329, 98K)

How's it feel like to shoot? Any different from a modern AR15?

it's so freaking smooth.. the bcg slides like it's a butter stick and you can really appreciate the rifle lenght gas system. full auto is very controllable, i love to shoot it from the hip

What's the cheapest way to build an M16A1 clone? What about the most accurate way? Should I just buy a Colt SP1 from GB?

This is perfect, thank you!

I'm building the same thing as you are user.
I'm using a CMMG 9mm lower though and building it as a pistol.

noice
