How's the recoil on that thing? I can't imagine 20mm is pleasant to shoulder fire, especially seeing how much the gun seemed to move him when it fired.
Pretty neat little cannon. I like all the really simplistic, yet functional approaches to solve various problems.
Looks pretty intense, but I'm guessing the receiver recoiling into the stock as much as it does, does a lot to make it bearable.

The blog article says it's "not unpleasant" -- it's kinda like the HIWS in that it distributes recoil over some significant length of time rather than a sharp impulse; this dramatically reduces the peak forces at the shoulder and makes it much more manageable.

As for raw impulse, it's roughly 1500 grains at 1000 fps, whereas a 40mm low velocity is roughly 3500 grains at 250 fps -- the 20mm is roughly 70% more, give or take the propellant gasses.
40mm high velocity, on the other hand, is about 5500 grains at 800 fps, or about 3x the impulse of the 20mm.
It's that AK's grandchild that lifts the most.
