Gopher hunt

shot this little cunt with a 12g slug from 30yds on the weekend.
anyone else enjoy varmint control more than they should

Fucking yes. Ground squirrels are my worst enemies, I run ballistic experiments on them. Just shot one with a .22 short an hour ago. Pic related was a Super X copper plated HP, high velocity .22LR. In the ass and out the top of the head.

Attached: 22 LR.png (763x1042, 1.94M)

Same squirrel, different angle

Attached: 22 LR part 2.png (742x1003, 1.6M)

Here is a squirrel hit with a 6.5mm Jap FMJ from a Type 38 Arisaka. Not as much damage as you would expect, but it was instantly dead. Had a similar result with a 9mm FMJ, poked a pretty clean hole, but instant death.

30-06, 150 grain FMJ, from an M1 Garand

Attached: 30-06 FMJ.jpg (1440x2560, 953K)

55 grain spire points from a bolt action .223 rifle, my favorite squirrel round by far.

Another 55 grain spire point, .223 rifle

Yet another great 55 grain spire point handload

Do you even lift bro?

The 12 gauge slug you used on that gopher seemed to have more effect than the one that I hit this ground squirrel with. It was a lucky shot, I caught him running at about 40 yards

Attached: 1502332336823.jpg (895x895, 659K)

55 grain FMJ from a .223 rifle, not bad at all. Note how one squirrel is relatively intact, while one exploded. Variable effects.

Attached: 1520723854558.jpg (1366x768, 536K)

12 gauge birdshot also works great

I am moving to alberta in a month, very excited to take up gopher shooting... its not really "hunting" with so many of the damn things. Will likely use them as practice for my deer rifle too

Poor little fuzzies. Bet they wish they were born dogs.

No. I don't enjoy it at all. It's a sort of bloodthirsty chore. But I don't grudge people at all who turn it into a sport. Pest control is a necessary thing, and a rifle is the cleanest and most humane way to do it.

This. I do pest control professionally and I can attest, the bullet is more humane than the poison. Plus its not my fault that its a fun marksmanship challenge.

If I shoot a bunny wabbit with A FMJ .223, will its shit be too fucked up? Planning on protecting my garden from those fucks but don't know if I would be better off with my .22lr pistol than my AR. I don't want to have to pick up little Peter Cottontail's guts sprayed all over my yard.

Overkill is a good thing. It's humane.

Anything will be humane,im not throwing fucking darts at the thing. I just want to know how fucked a small rodent will be.

With 22LR, shot placement is key. I have shot plenty of squirrels with 22 and watched them walk away, slowly, into their burrow. I know they eventually died but it took at least a few minutes. Thats no good. Be sure to use appropriate ammo as well, no lead round nose ammo.

Shot this treenigger with my Mpap just to post to PETA’s FB page back when I used FB

.22's make rabbits and squirrels kick and squeal.

Disintegrate them.

Attached: darth-vader-face.jpg (1024x768, 68K)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't tree squirrels game animals, good to eat, and generally not a bother to anyone? Ground squirrels are fuckin pests though.

If you're hunting rabbit - pest control or not - you shouldn't let the meat go to waste. And that includes abdomen shots.

My ground squirrel hunt yesterday in Central California. Big boy Was lured out of his hole after I threw one of the smaller carcasses at it. Really was just taunting it but it fucking worked lol.

Fucking gay ass phone pls work

Keeping those horsey ankles safe :-)

Kek fine. Now question is FMJ or Barnes Varmint Grenade?

We call that a Texas headshot boiiii

Rabbits are some of the most fragile creatures I’ve ever hunted. One pellet from a pellet gun or shotgun anywhere on the body over 1000fps and it’s going down.

>not using enough gun

If you aren't separating the animals insides from it's outsides you're no using enough gun.

For example a 58gr 6mm projectile going 4000fps.

Attached: 9595597.jpg (640x534, 217K)

They are, and that faggot wasted a small delicacy. Red squirrels are like 1/3 the size of a grey but they skin much easier and I think taste even better.

In the ass and out the head? kek nice

Brutal

They are pests and not worth eating. It’s a rat with a tail no meat on that.
Nobody eats squirrel or rabbit(I’m summer) in Alaska. Not even the natives that will eat moose brain soup.

Not using Barnes Varmit Grenades...

How psycho are we for liking rodent explosions?

Attached: The_daily_life_of_an_Arkansas_Fish_and_Game_officer.webm (720x480, 2.35M)

it's probably a .243, at that velocity.

You are correct, proper butchering and soaking overnight in brine (in fridge) makes for great meat.

Squirrel has a decent amount of meat if you butcher it right. Stewing is probably the easiest way to eat them.

Attached: IMG_20170702_154507.jpg (1747x1310, 1.03M)

what the hell is a spire point? Is it just a softpoint?

get on my level faggetz. Have you ever slayed such a beast?

Attached: IMG_20171017_172550.jpg (980x1307, 516K)

Generally soft points are flat or a bit spherical shaped where the lead is exposed, a spire point has a more pointy piece of lead exposed. Basically the spire point has the same shape as a normal Spitzer projectile FMJ, except with no jacket on the tip. Pic related is a spire point.

More on the pathetic side.

no its not you inbred gook

>controlling pests to extinction
>thinking we will run out if ground squirrels

If you really enjoy the act of killing small animals, like it truly makes you happy, there might be something off about you. On the other hand, if you recognize that Pest Control is a necessary activity that sometimes can be a fun challenge, and that you are happy/accomplished when you complete a task, nothing wrong with that.

You are a cowardly faggot.
Let the wildlife be. Idiot

>not understanding what an invasive species is
>not understanding what a pest is

Absofuckinglutely.

Uh.... do snattlerakes REALLY taste like chicken?

Attached: rattleman.jpg (1168x1028, 1.27M)

I can't post results of the 6.5 creedmoor as all there was, was pink mist.

To me it's like greasy whitefish x chicken flavor, I dig it, but there are lots of bones. Definitely worth eating if you catch a big one. These last 2 tried to bite doggo so they got removed. They coiled so when I shot the head I also chopped em, not worth eating these two. I did eat though, it was good.

This is what my 20" Colt with 64 grain softpoints did to one

You know what doesn't squeal? Groundhogs. We have good sized field right behind our shop, and a buddy and I took potshots after work with our .22 rifles. We hit this one furry Viet Cong fucker with at least three rounds, I shot him up the ass because the scope was off, he hit him in the upper left side, then he hit him again where this groundhog proceeded to stand straight up and gracefully fall back into his hole.

tl;dr God Bless America, but fuck groundhogs

Is that heart still beating in there, or just a trick of the light?

Still beating, had to take a video because it was so fucking cool/weird. It was definitely dead, not breathing, but enough of the heart/CNS intact that it was still beating for a few minutes.

>anyone else enjoy varmint control more than they should
No you degenerate.

>fellow light brown 870 spray paint job
Noice shotty m8 :)

Semi related but Alligators do indeed taste like chicken but with bigger meat strands. However it has an aftertaste like you experience with lamb.

those things carry the plague and your touching it nigger

These fucking niggers keep messing up my garden. I JUST WANT TO GROW FLOWERS AND VEGGIES REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Only sick twisted people wants to murder animals. Look at the disturbing gore you produce. White people are evil.
Shooting animals in the behind is illegal, that is animal cruelty!

"Euphorbia Lathyris," is a common gopher repellent. Buy a few from your local nursery and plant them in your yard. Focus on the gopher infested areas. Other plants that gophers seem to dislike include: castor beans, daffodils, and marigolds. Grow several different plants to repell gophers and pests.

i find that bullets are a better ground nigger repellent.

No because killing things makes me sad and I can live with varmints.

sounds like you have a big fat pussy between your legs

You sound like a charicature of what you percieve it means to be a man. People like you often turn into transgenders.
Your guns will be removed forever, like in Europe and Australia

from the thumbnail I thought that was a baseball bat you just went out and clubbed them with

why

this would be so cute if they were both alive

if you hold your breath are you dead? it was probably paralyzed and fucked up but still alive if the heart was beating. just because its a paraplegic vegetable doesnt mean its dead

Aw man I never see enough varmint control threads!

>bought an AK off a guy a while back

>we decided to go shooting and test it out

>nail a whistle pig with a 7.62x39 hollowpoint

>it jumps about 2 foot in the air, so we go check it out

>damn things missing it's head, but you can see the heart still beating really quickly

>guy takes video
>it's a shit video that's too dark because the idiots shadow was in the way

Ask yourself this. If you were in a room with a harmless varmint and a knife, would you go and kill it? If you answer yes, then id say you are a psycho.

I absolutely love shooting rabbits. its a win win situation, you get rid of pests and you get to test your shooting skills, you immediately know if youve made a good shot by how clean the kill is, and you see how effective different rounds are.

I still think rabbits are cute as fuck though and id have one as a pet.

As long as you don’t mutilate the corpse afterwards then I think it’s legit. Mutilation of animals is a psycho trait. Eviscirating game and pests is just how you do it. We’re all probably a little psycho if we’re posting on Jow Forums but fuck it man being boring is gay.

>enjoys obliterating animals
>has brown skin.

WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED! I bet you have a closet full of hookers drivers licenses and baby shoes.

Take your medication.

I know it’s a troll but shit can those lefties hurry the fuck up with their attempt? This slow erosion process is grinding my gears

May not be considered “varmint hunting” but I have a problem with rattle snakes on my land, how do I go about hunting them, and what would be best to use? I was thinking like a suppresss .22 or something. Would that be enough? I’d eat the meat afterwards so they wouldn’t go to waste

this one guy who came into my LGS a lot and ended up being a dog rapist shot .25-06

Did it die?

shut up homo, go back to being mentally ill

Birdshot from a 12 gauge and don’t worry about letting it go to waste. That’s some Native American meme that isn’t even true. Savages killed shit all the time and didn’t use all the meat and hide. You don’t have to make that effort to remove something with big venous fangs anyway. Shoot them like you would a Communist. Move on to the next.

Said the animal murderer compensating for his small dick and homosexual tendencies

So you don’t think .22 would be enough? Not that shotshell meme but regular .22LR
