My mom is super freaked out with me wanting to join the army... what do I do to appease her? My dad is super for it (he was army EOD). I'd rather not burn bridges. She thinks I'll end up fucked up or something. Is it just one of those things they learn to accept?

>Is it just one of those things they learn to accept?
Say mom suck my dick or im joining. Its a win win either way.

Are your parents divorced or something? If not she'll come around. What MOS were you looking at

What's she gonna do, cry real hard?

She's a woman. They're genetically programmed to cry first and accept it later.

only do this if you're joining the alabama ng. probably a prereq anyway

>mom sucks his dick
>joins anyway

Thats cause she knows how shit army medical and leadership is through all the bullshit your dad went through when he was in. How old are you and what mos?

Guilt her into it
>would have been nice to have your support
>i though you would have been proud that im serving something greater than myself

should i do some community college and get units so i can enlist as an e3 or just join and do college later?

depends on the job imo. What branch and job are you looking at?

hey canadian user here
is canadian army a meme army ? just curious because i consider joining the air forces
any information would be cool

How much can I take advantage of the GI Bill?
I want to learn as much as I can: could I have the government pay off a double major?

What about advanced degrees?
I'm a noob. Just turned 18, looking for options.

>caring what a woman thinks
Also 11X or bust fgt.

I'm 19 and unemployed (kinda feel like a deadbeat but i'm taking some CC courses). I've been looking at something in the intel field. Would do a combat MOS but with nothing really on the horizon i'd be wasting my time

>canadian
meme country dude
Dude its your life do what you want to do fuck your mom. And you could still go combat and just use GI Bill after.

The GI bill just covers up to a certain amount per year for 36 months of total benefits. That's 36 months of actually in school, so summers off, basically 4 years of schooling.
Just look up the benefits and how they work, it's laid out pretty well on most top results.
I don't know anything about it paying off an existing loan, but yeah you can get whatever degree you want as long as it meets the criteria financially.

>The GI bill just covers up to a certain amount per year
this is wrong

>Do community college for a year to get e3
>Join the military for a year and get e3

I'm pretty sure there's a cap on $/credit, but enlistedmen all make shit so they qualify for enough financial aid to cover the remainder.

No you cant do a double major unless somehow all the classes are the same. They specifically make you declare your major, and once you do its fucking hardto switch back,so pro tip for the gibill declare undeclared major as long as you can.

Go to CC to make mom happy until you hit 20 and enlist as a 35L. Then u just tell your mom you signed up to be a special agent.

probably army intel or something useful when im out

Elaborate because at its base, that is exactly what it does.
>Up to $23,671.94 per academic year National Maximum
benefits.va.gov/GIBILL/resources/benefits_resources/rates/ch33/ch33rates080118.asp
You can do more and take advantage of other stuff, but this guy can learn that by some quick googling, I'm not here to explain the ins and outs to someone who hasn't joined or researched it.

does it really take just a year to get e3? damn

Ive literally never heard this before and am nearly positive this isnt true
You just answered it yourself. The Gi Bill pays a max tuition price, they dont fucking care about credits. In other words it all comes down to how your school bills. My University charges per credit until you hit 12, then anything after 12 costs the max price. So I could take 18 and tahts the same as 15 on the books price wise.

I never mentioned credits.

>go to ait
>do well
>suck co off
>graduate as specialist
>suck new co off to go to BLC
>e5 in 1 year
Or you could try what my dad did
>go to vietnam
>don't be retarded
>e5 in 9 months

Yeah I was the one the mentioned credit, I had it confused with TA, sort of

Going to Private universities on the GI bill with the yellow ribbon program will pay for a >100,000$ education.

Get your AA while your active and you can have a bachelors and some of your graduate studies paid for

Not sure which dude you are but the overall argument is about if he can double major or not. So thats why credits are important my braindead friend.
word

Not in army.

To hit E5, you have to be an E4 for a minimum of 1.5 years.

this, there's a reason so many (smart) vets go to Ivy's. All their grad schools will pay 100,% so you're only on the hook for living expenses.

I never said he couldn't double major. I said at its core it gives you money and said there's a max. Calm down, if you wanna break it down for him then do it. I'm not, he's gonna forget it anyway in 3 years.

>time in grade doesnt exist

Im the one who said you cant really double major.

When you apply for the GI bill for each school you have to submit an application on the va website and in that application it requires you to fill in a major. Your school then matches that info and sends it back to the VA to confirm.

Just double checked, 4 months TIG 18 TIS. Fucking (((recruiters))) man, that's what one told me.

For what rank? E4?

to clarify im asking about the army and is it a common thing to get e3 or higher in a year if you are just average, eg not sucking everyone off

>When you apply for the GI bill for each school you have to submit an application on the va website and in that application it requires you to fill in a major.
dude I 100% dont do that and im using it as we speak. I just print out my classes and give the paper to the vets office.

E3 is obtained after 1 year max.

Nah he swore up and down he made sergeant in something like 13 months tis. Pretty sure he was ACASP though, so I didn't think too much about it.
It would be weirder not to make pfc in a year, considering it's an automatic promotion with 12 mos tis requirements

ok thanks bros

For real dude, don't be average. The army's neat because of the fact that specialist is a thing. As a matter of policy, the CO is allowed to promote the top 10% of each AIT class to e4.

alright ill try my best for sure

35S is glorified tech support, you’ll never operate in it. May as well go 17C if you’re not retarded.

bizarre post

I meant to type 35T.

Yes, but what did you do when you first applied for the school in order to even use the gi bill? You went on vonapp or whatever its called and filled out a form saying what school and major you chose. Then they send you and your school a packet saying how much bah and shit your getting.

how would I go about keeping my guns on a base and cc'ing? Ive heard that it is allowed but im not sure of the rules. Do I have to cc an issued sidearm, and am I able to bring a personal firearm to work if Im say, CID or intelligence? Can I get special choice like Special Forces groups?

Attached: table guns.jpg (2000x1325, 767K)

lmao, you know 35T has its place, they run all the secured networks like sipr and what not. 17C dont do that kind of shit.

>You went on vonapp or whatever its called and filled out a form saying what school and major you chose.
absolutely 100% didnt do that either dude
>Then they send you and your school a packet saying how much bah and shit your getting.
nope
I have tons of vet buddies and none of them have ever mentioned this before. I think yorue the odd man out here.

You can keep your guns in the armory, but I highly recommend you find a friend who has a house and store them there so you can actually take them out to shoot. No you cant CCW your personal weapons. If youre CID or CI you cannot use your personal weapons, you are issued one and then you can open carry or CCW.

isn't 35t actually what signal corps think they are?

Thats what ive had to do every single time, so idk if youre just trolling me or not. I doubt it has to do with me having the GI bill kicker. But every single vet office in all 3 colleges ive been to in the past 5 years ive been told to fill out the form on vonapp and then I get the packet that says how much bah im getting for the semester, how many units im taking, and how much time remaining I have on my post 9/11 gi bill, and then I go into the vet office and they have that same exact packet I got.

Are you guys using mgib or post 9/11

what is the best intel mos that isnt too tough and is useful after the army?

25B are the bitch boys of 35T

>doubt it has to do with me having the GI bill kicker
dude that must be it seriously. Me and all my friends are using regular post 9/11 no kicker. 100% not joking.

All of them lmao.

>t. 350F

Care to share how yellow ribbon covers the cost of >$100k education? Even at a generous 100% matching for 4 years that's 80k. Are you forgoing BAH as well or what?

Attached: 7846138941164.jpg (480x360, 18K)

define "too tough"? are you dumb and weak or just weak?

Attached: 1518035628085.jpg (260x194, 6K)

But how would those colleges know i have the kicker before they even get the packet mailed to them?

Do you not get these packets in the mail like I do describing what I said?

Not him, but yellow ribbon program means the school covers 50% of the max tuition and the gi bill covers the rest.

not that smart desu im pretty bad at math and haven't pushed my self academically in a while

What exactly do you want to do?
>350F CW3 13 years, former 35P/N/F E6

>Do you not get these packets in the mail like I do describing what I said?
Nope, never got a packet or even heard of this before. I go to school in PA, a buddy goes to OHIO and anotehr goes to NC and another in CA and none of them have ever mentioned packets to me. Im literally going to ask them tomorrow if theyre ever heard of this before but i highly doubt it.

So let's say the max tuition is 70k.
School covers 35k.
GI bill covers...35k?

I'll look into this but that doesn't seem right. My understandin, which isn't much because no need for it, was that the yellow ribbon means the school pays up to 50% of the difference based on available funds. Basically w/e the GI bill cover, they will up to 50% of the tuition.
GI bill is ~20k so at 70k you have 50k left over but there's an unaccounted for 15k in the end.
I'm probably way off the mark, I'll have to look into it tomorrow just for cognizance. I'll be using the GI bill next year but currently don't intend to go to ivy league. Might be worth a look, however. I'd need to retake the ACT though, got a 31 and I'm sure they'd want higher.

I went to school in CA at SFSU and CSUMB, and finished my degree this year in VA at UVA.

not fully set but im looking at 35f, can you give me a quick rundown on it?

wait a fucking second i remember you. Youre that lucky fucking bastard. Didnt you have a house and rented it out to 2 nurses right?
And dude like I said ill ask them but im telling you ive never heard of that shit.>GI bill is ~20k
that isnt how it works

How it works for Harvard med at least
>tuition is 65k
>Harvard pays/waives 32.5k
>VA pays 32.5k
>Harvard gains a new big donor because you just graduated nearly debt free and are making your fat doctor salary as soon as you enter the field rather then 10 years later when you pay off your (((debt)))

Intel analyst title, 100% office work, mostly sitting at a computer doing data entry inputting names and info of personnel, other half is filling out powerpoints with gathered intelligence from the other 35 series mos, occassionally you do personnel security which involves giving people access to shit on the network or in the secured rooms. At higher levels you do more research stuff. Its a very easy and relaxed job compared to all the other intel jobs, you can pretty much go straight autopilot through the work day if you want. I would say its the least exciting MOS in the intelligence field for Army with not alot of cool shit to do. However, on the outside in the civilian world, there are many many positions for intelligence and personnel security dudes all across the map. The other intel jobs do alot of cool shit in the army and have many opportunities in the army, but on the outside, the jobs are very very limited.

Ya, im the 35P korean linguist, I was milking the GI bill, unemployment, vocrehab, and using the va loan to buy and rent places while I went to school. BTW I got that DoD job, Im a realty specialist working contracts for AF now, buying up properties for the base I work at.

good for you nigger you milked the system like a legend

Attached: 1529375198394.png (633x640, 294K)

interesting what are some of the more fun intel jobs?

how the fuck did you survive korean at the DLI? tell me your secrets

Well, if your 20, you can apply for 35L and do some real cool shit. I wont get too into it because last time I apparently sounded too much like a salesman and a few people got mad. 35M would be the next step below 35L. Then on the technical side, 35N and 35S works closely with NSA. 35T is a straight up computer job. 35P is a translator type job and you have to go to language school. 35G works with cool maps. And 35F is 35F.

im 18 right now and just thinking about community college or the army, so far im leaning towards the army, but thanks for all the information man I really appreciate it

I cried, every night.

Just kidding, only every other night.

But the only reason I made it was because I have a semi photographic memory, I can memorize everything I read for a few hours, picture perfect. I had extremely good study habits, during breaks I would work on homework, and during lunch I would try and finish it up. In the morning before our daily quizzes I would run through my flash cards and memorize all the new vocab. For speaking practice, I just followed along with the voice recordings for the workbooks until I could fake the accent and tone of voice. For the speaking tests, you just got to memorize the standard sentences in the book and parrot it back to the teacher. Alot of my classmates were trying to do complicated sentences and give actual responses, I said fuck that and rehashed shit from the book. As long as you use the correct words and grammar that was taught in the book as well as correct accent and tone, the teachers passed you.

The only advice I can give is, keep a routine. The teachers fucking suck, and the military education advisors are fucking useless. Youre out on your own. Find out the best way for YOU to study. Everything they recommended me was complete garbage. Extra hours was bullshit, because the teachers waste your time going over shit you learned that day at 6 or 7 pm, and you still have 4 hours of homework left to do. Watching dramas and reading comics are gonna fuck up your formal speaking skills, which is what they grade you on. If anything watch the news, and pause and transcribe what they say, then check it with the actual transcription posted for the news report. Try and be at least 3 days ahead for homework.

If you are unlucky enough to get korean, and you arent able to bribe someone to give you their language instead, just suck it up and try not to burn out too quickly. Also, make it a habbit to go to the gym every night after homework is done to tire yourself out until you have to wake up at 4am to do pt

different user, also interested in intelligence. Can you go right into 35L or do you need to be 35M first?

what if I went to OCS and could have my own housing?

And at what rank do I get my own housing? I know you can as a LT but could I as a SGT?

Go army, fuck community college, its a waste of time. Get the army over with now, then do school during or after, wherever the fuck you want. You can go to oxford, harvard, USC, wherever, and make your mom so proud you got in that she brags that it was her idea for you to join the army. I was a dumbass and tested out of highschool and went straight to community college at 16. Horrible fucking experience. When I turned 18, i joined the army. Except for the first few years, and final years active duty, life was pretty fucking awesome. When i switched to reserves and got a real job in the civilian world, I still didnt have my degree. I only recently finished it last year, because my wife told me to. I didnt need it for my job or anything. Im actually considering doing my graduate degree at the war college, since I was offered it. My mom didnt want me to join either, now she brags to her friends that it was her idea. I didnt even tell her I joined until 1 month before I shipped out.

If you are 20, you can join 35L right now, they just made it entry level last week. Otherwise you can be any MOS and once you hit almost E5 and have BLC school done, you can reclass into it like before, when it wasnt an entry level job.

>My mom didnt want me to join either, now she brags to her friends that it was her idea
you should call her ass out and make her stop doing that shit seriously

If you have your own housing, you dont have to use the armory or a friends house.

It depends on many factors to be honest. Sometimes bases have barracks for junior officer and NCOs. So I really cant give you a straight answer. Just make a friend with a married couple and store your shit at their place. Or rent a storage for 30 bucks a month.

Not the guy you replied to, but what do you mean you can go to Oxford or Harvard? Do they let people in out of the army without previously taking classes somewhere? I always see an user talk about his friend who goes to oxford, but how?

Gonna piggy off this.

Just got done updating my mom on my intentions to join. Some tears, but overall happy because I'm fucking 23 and ready to get out of grandmas house and quit working restaurants and odd jobs. She understood and the convo honestly went better than expected.

It's a life changing decision, but not the bad kind like heroin. Moms are just protective but so long as you talk confidently and know what your long term goals are with the military being a tool to get you there, it's all Gucci.

when do you get your selected language? After Basic?

I do, but she does the mom thing and ignores what I have to say. Its all good though, im in my 30s and shes almost 70, so I dont really care. She thinks all I do is security clearances.

The gi bill will pay tuition for those schools. Ya im that user, my buddy goes to oxford for his undergraduate degree, on the gi bill. Quick google search. Ya the info falls under graduate, but its the same thing for the undergrad program.

ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate/fees-and-funding/other-funding-sources/us-department-veterans-affairs-funding

FYI oxford tuition is only 10k pounds a semester. The universities there have a 10k cap for tuition, and the higher ones always charge the cap.

23, going to have a BA next year. I want to do investigations and secret squirrel shit, but I also want to be a soldier.
Ive asked about this before, you might be the guy who broke down different 35 MOS's the last time

You find out when you get your orders to DLI after basic, or ait if your a 35M. Then when you get to DLI you can switch your language with someone else as long as the class dates havent started.

damn alright im probably going to enlist, im gonna take a few months to prepare physically. any tips on what i should study to make whatever intel mos i pick a bit easier?

University's only care about money and it is guaranteed paid for with the GI bill so they will let any retarded vet in
