First off, why not get a better 1911 instead if you're already OK with dropping 2700 bucks? Second, as long as you buy from anybody but springfield directly it literally doesn't fucking matter. It's not like the LGS or distributor is going to earmark your money as "springfield armory bux" and set it aside to use it to buy more springers. As long as springfields are selling in general(hint: they are) any money you give to any LGS or distributor would contribute just as much to them buying more guns from springfield since its all going into the same account and being spent on whatever the fuck they want to stock. The only "realistic" solution would be boycotting anybody who carries SA products. Work on developing better taste, but don't worry about stupid shit like that. All your giving them is free advertising which is easily offset with a bit of bitching and moaning if anybody shows an interest in your gun.

Baer is more money and annoyingly tight with a worse trigger, worse sights, and worse finish but questionable as to whether the accuracy is better. It is all hand worked though while DW is more CNC'd.

Baers are hard fit whereas DWs are machined ever so slightly over spec and then hand finished. Because of this the baer will be more finicky until broken in, harder to rack, and also tighter fitted in some areas. While im a huge DW fan unless out of the box performance is of the utmost importance the baer is just a slightly higher quality firearm. Of course you'll also be paying a lot of money for that extra quality. FWIW I hear semi frequently that WC is more worth the price than les baer, but neither company is exactly something i've looked into in great detail. Personally the extra 1000-1500 bucks over a comparable DW in which only a single part evidences slop of any kind that's detectable to mere mortals(grip safety side to side play) is just too steep to justify the theoretical benefits(maybe slightly better 50yrd groups?).

The whole thing about SA being traitorous is overblown bullshit. There's plenty of GOOD reasons to not like Springfield, and they were incredibly fucking inept, but it wasn't an intentional attempt to erode anyone's rights. They hired a single lobbyist, Jay Keller, and set him up with a checkbook and no oversight. There's no way any executive would have knowingly signed off on the incredibly shortsighted deal the guy made, because regardless of the supposed "carveouts" in the bill, Springfield would know that the majority of their sales would come from the FFLs that were getting screwed over, not the big box stores that were exempt. This wasn't Bill Ruger's logic happening again, they weren't betting on being the lone survivor in the IL market--they're pushing their brand new Saint line, AR pistols, etc. Stuff that Walmart and Bass Pro doesn't sell. People are accusing SA of profiteering from anti-2a laws, but it was just as bad a deal for them as anyone--they had hired a dumbass lobbyist with no understanding of the industry or the importance of a no-compromise stance in politics, and he was treating it like lobbying for any other business. When they realized how bad they fucked up, they fired him on the spot, apologized, and immediately went about dumping a whole lot of money into helping kill the bill.
