PSAGT or M1 steel helmet

stahlhelm

Attached: Stahlhelm M-56.jpg (709x751, 139K)

The M1 on it's own works but it only really reaches it's peak when it has a camouflage cover with crap scribbled on it.

PASGT looks pretty desu

Depends on how you define best. Best protection against boom-from-above? Best protection against boom-from-ahead? Best to wear from sunrise to sunset? Best as a platform for other gear? Best at allowing for listening devices?

I have a bunch of helmets in my collection. None of the oldtimers come even close to the comfort of the PASGT in terms of weight and liner snugness. Is it automatically the optimal choice for a day in arctic temperatures? I am not so sure, but I'd prefer not to try the current bicycle helmet style with sleet howling around my ears. Nor the old steel buckets.

Unironically PASGT

M1 was great for its multitude of non-combat uses (improvised bucket, cooking pot, shit pot etc.) but as a combat helmet, it was objectively fucking terrible, especially after WWII when it was going up against Warsaw Pact 7.62mm weaponry.

M1 should've been ditched by the end of the 60s at the latest desu. It's a disgrace that development of PASGT started in 1975 and took nearly a decade to be fully adopted.

Attached: PASGT Prototype.jpg (753x506, 76K)

The current best helmet would be the ECH because it offers level III protection. The best design would be the PASGT, and the best steel helmet would be M1. Close contenders would be the Italian M33, Swedish M37, and Bulgarian M36.
>inb4 M35/40/42
The WWII stahlhelm was only surpassed in shit factor by First World War helmets like the Adrian and MkI/II.

Have you ever tried on a Swedish M37? The liner consists of three leather pillows padded with horse hair. It is like wearing a ROCK.

>M1
Your unwavering patriotism is showing. You're right about the PASGT, but that is basically a kevlar stahlhelm.

>best steel helmet would be M1
I have no clue what makes you think the M1 is better than a stahlhelm. Literally every single documentary and history book around has agreed that the stahlhelm was the best.

Zenturio C1300 because Space Balls.

Attached: zenturio c1300.jpg (373x567, 48K)

While I don't like the inner shell of the M1 and I doubt the stories how often the outer shell was used for other purposes, the M1 does have the quality that it came in only one size. The stahlhelm was made in at least six shell sizes and I think three different liner sizes, which is great if you want to look really smart on parade but does not help with logistics.

The MICH 2002 is amazing, definitely the best balance between protection and mobility.

I suppose it would have been best for logistics, as Americans designed everything that way.
I would still want to go into battle with the stahlhelm due to the better coverage though. Nothing beats saving lives.

The general shape of the stalhelm has proven its value. Which it did already in medieval times.

Here's something funny. No matter how much shooting there has been in the ME the last few decades, the world has not seen a real battle since WW2. We haven't had meaningful statistics that are more than marginally newer than the Battle Of The Bulge. What the fuck do our armies know about modern battle conditions? The newest helmets we have now could turn out to be crap.

No, it's not that great. The sides are too flat to effectively deflect shrapnel. The german M-56 helmet was actually developed early into WWII and tests showed that it worked better than the M35, but hitler wanted to retain the stalhelm for muh aesthetics. Literally.

Yep, and then east german adopted it because "muh ebil Nazi past, gotta look more commie"

Real question, how much protection would these repro’s even offer? Like if a repel was being used in WWII would it have been better or worse than the real thing? I’m just curious.

Why is everyone ignoring the most modern options?

Attached: ops core.jpg (1025x1125, 129K)

Well the aesthetics were superior, if they weren't that much better then the choice was easy for morale purposes

Why do these have less coverage area?

To fit comms gear

I like some Eastern bloc helmets, but PASGT still.

"Although the contour of the PASGT helmet is frequently compared to that of the Nazi helmet by casual observers, it was not modeled after the German M-35. The slight similarity in contour is the result of the fact that the Germans designers and Natick Lab personnel used similar methods to determine the shape of the helmet."

The latex condom

Makes sense

The M35 can’t stop lol9mm at 10 yards, which most steel helmets could do. A good example of a similar design would be the Bulgarian M36, which has a similar shape but can almost stop 7.62x25 Tokarev, which only the M56 and a few other helmets could do as far as I’m aware.
I meant the M37/65, I should have clarified that

because they're not supposed to stop bullets, and raining debris from artillery is far less prevalent nowadays

>because they're not supposed to stop bullets
They’re not supposed to but they can, so why not just make headsets that can fit under the ears of a MICH-2000?

>What is the best infantry helmet ever made?
Any that has stopped a bullet.

>mfw the PASGT comes in on Monday

Attached: 1538367582433.png (500x500, 219K)

In terms of steel helmets, the East German M56, hands down.
If we're taking all helmets altogether, then it'd either be the PASGT or the slav 6b27.

Does anyone else here want a modernized Stahlhelm? All the aesthetics without lacking in the protection department like a steel pot does today.

cause youre posting the inferior one

>ow my ear

You'd be dead anyway with any other helmet too.

>modernized Stahlhelm

Yeah its called a MICH helmet

You could avoid having a piece of shrapnel take your ear off if the helmet covered it.

why expose anything, might as well just go full helm, gotta be safe from very specific threats that might not even happen!

Attached: Gunsight_Mandible_01__75412.1521472733.jpg (1025x1125, 124K)

Also gotta use this, cant be too safe. Perhaps get some chin protection as well

no

i think its little bit obvious

Unironically ideal for home defense or sentry work.

Based and redpilled

Related question: Would a modern ballistic helmet like a PASGT--not just an old steel helmet--work as a motorcycle helmet?

I know it's not as good as a purpose built one, but will it at least be decent protection in a collision?

guess thats why the mandible is often advertised with the Ops core sentry. Im not sure about home defence tho.

soulless plastic shit like the rest of the modern world.

Youll most likely get whiplash bad enough to injure your neck. Id rather go with a carbon bump helmet.

Peltors do fit under a MICH.

Faggoty SOF wants to pretend they are cool guys so they spend shitloads of extra money on something that is not broken just to look different.

Would kevlar helmets improve with same design or is it steel only?

>that pic
i made that pic months ago to troll a bunch of retards on /vg/ lmao

BETON RISE UP

Attached: beton2.jpg (600x1141, 498K)

exactly, they fit under the helmet, which isnt always ideal.
Also been common knowledge for ages among SOFs that lightweight speed > heavy armor.

There are 3 layers of foam in modern motorcycle helmets. Comfort, crush zone, and "hope you dont mind a speech impediment." Withought that crush zone youre guaranteed some brain damage. Otherwise its only good for abrasion resistance.

Ballistic helmets and motorcycle helmets are built with different things in mind, you could use one but you’re much safer with just getting a helmet designed for motorcycles.

>What is the best infantry helmet ever made?
None. There's a reason the Aussies went with slouch hats in Vietnam.

The Force is not with that one.

>its not modeled after it, its just modeled after the same mathematic models that modeled both of them

Yeah. That reason was the general lack of enemy artillery. Quite a privilege.

Disgusting nazi commie hybrid. Looks bad and that’s all that matters.

Imagine if government procurement process of military equipment was actually about effectiveness or troop survaibaility?

Try telling the guys that were in Fallujah that it wasn't a real battle.

That's not what I quoted means.
Similar =/= same
If you designed a helmet based on injury percentages, it would end up looking similar to the PSAGT

too fucking heavy. It would be great if it were made of kevlar or polyethylene though.
>posting a bell instead of a helmet
I don't like it, but it works. wouldn't consider it the pinnacle of helmet design though.
gay

Hey guys in Fallujah, you weren't in a battle. Oh sure, there was fighting. And sure, about a hundred Americans died there - of the more than 10.000 US troops present. Quite the fight. But how significant was it as far as providing statistics. How valuable was the entire episode in providing data for future use? Were modern weapons skillfully used by an enemy as highly trained and as well equipped? How many tanks, choppers, heavy artillery and CAS could the enemy provide? None? Then what did this battle teach us that Mogadishu didn't?

Attached: D51ZOpT.png (1440x1437, 2.87M)

look at how much military equipment has developed post 9/11, nigga we in the golden ages of gucci gear

Because we dont have to field test for shit we already know. You try to turn a debate over helmets to a general discussion about strategy. So for your fucking benefit, here: The new helmets are gonna do the exact same job as the old ones, just better and while being lighter. We dont need to go to war against fucking Russia to figure out how to build a better helmet for fucks sake.

I wonder. Sure there's new gear being issued. The reason for this is that military budgets have gone through the roof, bolstering the soldier ego to cringe point and handing out sweet manufacturer contracts left and right. But a lot of this nifty gear was already designed by 2001. There just wasn't any money for the upgrades to actually become issued. That HAS changed. But I have trouble telling an up to notch soldier of today from a SWAT team member of the 90s except for the rainbow of colors.

What the fuck do you think a helmet is supposed to do besides catch bullets and shrapnel?
Kevlar helmets do both while being lightweight and are miles better than steel pots of WW2
Friendly reminder, you need to be 18 to post here.

basement dwellers on Jow Forums who shill something without having ever used it are the reason this board is the big gay.
PASGTs suck, their suspension system is worse than a lot of WW2 era helmets. There are upgrade kits to make them usable but by the time those came out USA had newer and better helmets.
They're pretty aesthetic to look at tho

>Yeah its called the MICH helmet
not really what you recommend looks like shit to me

Shit taste. Pic related is the best kevlar helmet, and it would be the best (modern) helmet ever made if it were made of the same material as the ECH.

Attached: USMC-LWH.jpg (440x460, 27K)

If I pull off that mandible, will you die ?

Anyone know if a PASGT helmet cover fits well on a stahlhelm helmet cover

>meanwhile in 1915
"soulless metal helmets instead of fancy hats like the rest of this modern world!"

never change eternal fudd never change

Not a helmet worn by a genocidal regime that killed over six million innocent people. Those items belong on display in a museum in condemnation, not in peoples homes parading them around like special symbols of power.

I would rather have argued that the best helmet is not a century-old helmet that lost 2 world wars.

Also you jewsuckers are as painful as Wehraboos.

God damn I want one of those stupid helmets. Must be worth a premium.
