Rifle length gas works okay with carbine buffer tubes, you just might need a stiffer spring (like a springco blue) and a heavier buffer, like an H2 or H3

I'm a cheap cunt and I just want something that'll free float and protect the low pro gas block, don't need rails or modular sections, but I'm not really sure if a straight up tube is worth a shit. I asked for advice on tubes last thread and someone said ALG and their nonrailed mlok handguards were on sale for like $60 but of course they sold out. Aero has a 15" mlok handguard with a sight rail for like $109 and that's probably as much as I'd spend before I'd just bite the bullet and buy an MCMR.

I handled my friend's Aero Quantum rail. They're not bad, but they are clearly "hobby" rails. If you want a duty rail or a real defensive rail, get the MCMR or a Geissele.

I think I'm not being clear, sorry. I know both the Aero handguard and ALG handguard I mentioned have m-lok points that let you add modular accessories. Good to know that Aero is decent quality if a little obvious, thank you. I guess I'm also asking at the same time whether those tubes that don't have rails or m-lok sections are reliable and sturdy or if they're basically a waste of money. They look like this and tons of people make all sorts of them.

And honestly that's fine. All this rifle has to do is lay on a log for 8 hours and fire one good shot at an animal that isn't shooting back. I'm looking for a stopgap until I can afford my v-seven hyperlight.

An Mlok handguard isnt going to be much heavier, if heavier at all.
Why not have the option to throw on a QD bipod and sling mount and light and front flip sight etc.

It's not the weight that's concerning me right now, it's the price. A decent mlok handguard is like $100-160, which I understand is just what they cost but fuck I'd like a cheaper option at this juncture. And I do agree that having a sling mount is probably near necessary, a bipod and a front sight would be nice, and other stuff is good to have the option for, but if I can spend $20-60 on a handguard for now I can live without those. Especially because down the line I feel like dropping $300 on a very nice mlok handguard. But if they're not gonna do the job then I'll just buy an MLOK handguard and be done with it.

With those tubes it's really just a barrel nut and some aluminum wrapped around the barrel so I don't see how they could go wrong? I mean you wont have a sight or anything on it so as long as it stays put it should be alright. I dont advocate for buying placeholder things, I think everyone should save for what they really want. But if you're broke and hunting season is coming then do what you gotta do.

ALG is a good cheap option, Aero Atlas seems decent. You can always buy used too. BCM, Geissele etc.
