This, obviously.

Right. It's a pastiche of good ideas, which haven't ever been combined.

Top-break double action, with six o' clock chamber and an auto ejection system. Could put thin sideplates on the top to keep weight down, or if you're fancy, put in an integral laser.

Overwatch Pulse Rifle from Half-Life 2 hands down. Not only is it just a cool looking design with a beefy sound to it, the concept and design is really well done.

For those who don't know the pulse rifle doesn't shoot bullets. It's ammunition is contained in a plug like magazine about the size of a shotgun slug. Inside the slug is compressed and contained a large and extremely high energy orb of some kind I'll call the nucleus, the physical nature of which is never really explained. The primary fire releases down the top barrel a very small amount of the energy/force contained inside the plug which, given the immense pressures built up through the compression of the nucleus, strikes its target before completely dissipating. The fact that it dissipates highlights one of my favorite ideas behind the gun: it doesn't shoot bullets, it shoots the built up kinetic energy from the nucleus, pure force. The secondary fire releases the nucleus down the bottom barrel in a single shot.

There is some inconsistency in the game, which basically says that the primary fire and secondary fire use different bullets. This is not true however as the magazine that holds the plugs feeds both into the bottom barrel and top. You can also hear the same reload sound after the secondary fire that you hear when you reload primary fire.

Sorry for the blogpost but it's my favorite theoretical weapon and probably the most imaginative concept when it comes to handheld weapons in science fiction. The idea of just shooting force itself, and then the design and theory behind achieving such a weapon is just so inspiring to me.

Attached: pulse rifle.jpg (1024x1662, 576K)

Forgot to include video of it in action. Awesome sound design. Listen for the identical reload sound following the secondary fire that kind of backs up my theory that it doesn't have two kinds of ammunition, despite that being how the devs executed it in game.

Use it with the targeting cyberware to turn it into a horrifying headshot machine.

speaking pure aesthetic, "I cum't"

The only part of that which hasn't ever been combined is the low bore axis with the rest.

The Webley, for example, is a top-break double action with auto ejection. The only thing it doesn't have is the 6 o'clock chamber.

my biggest mistake when playing the game was never bothering with spells and shit, and only buying leg and brain upgrades so i could sprint faster and hack easier

The problem is the 6oclock kills any autoejecting potential.

Im actually curious about how the recoil impulse would be from a bolgun

A modern caseless gun that doesn't work by literal clockwork (G11) or superposed loads (Metal Storm). And don't give me black powder replicas because they're technically caseless; that shit doesn't fly with me.

>The problem is the 6oclock kills any autoejecting potential.
How so? I can see how it might force you to get creative with the positioning of the ejector mechanism or how that mechanism works exactly, but I fail to see how it couldn't be done.

Yes, the barrel is between the cylinder axis and the hinge so that presents a complication, but that can be worked around. It just becomes more complex.

There's just no room for it unless you get super duper funky. My solution was to use a sliding barrel sleeve inside of a smaller diameter cutout that could toggle the mechanism, but that's about where I called it quits because lol this is hard. Also I don't have a machine shop.

I've gotten really, really close. Brass on the far right of this pic. .50 BMG necked down to .375 running 20mm cannon powder and a 44" barrel.

Best I got was 5370 fps, I'm sure I could have hit 5500 with lighter bullets, I just never tried.

Attached: IMG_0235.jpg (977x853, 115K)

That may as well be unobtanium in and of itself

above ~4500 fps most of the lightweight bullets start to encounter jacket separation from the air friction. the fastest commercial cartridge is the .220 swift iirc at about 4100 fps.
you could go faster using sabot smooth-bores with squeeze bore shaping, but the accuracy suffers and the range is still limited by diminishing returns. you'd have to move up to recoiless anti-tank rifles to break that kind of speed.

>There's just no room for it unless you get super duper funky.
So get super duper funky. Your idea of the sliding sleeve is a good one.

You can easily work around the jacket separation by using monometallic bullets.

In the example I posted above , I used lathe-turned bullets from GS Custom, as well as Barnes X solid bronze bullets and they had no problem with jacket separation. You're certainly right about most bullets not being able to handle those velocities as I found out firsthand when working on those loads. They didn't exist at the time I was playing with that rifle, but I bet some of the lightweight designs from Lehigh could break 5500 in that cartridge. They are lathe-turned solid metal so they would have no jacket separation problems.

I would like to see a P90 using cased telescoped ammo; the proposed 5.56mm round here is 1 mm shorter than the 5.7x28mm rounds the P90 currently uses, while firing a bullet that is twice as heavy at roughly the same velocity. And width-wise, it looks like 36 of them would fit into a P90 length magazine.

so id assume using the deadspace above the barrel for pic related could be a little bit tricky eh?

AMT backup in 9mm

.500 S&W, but same idea.

I think that's a pretty awesome idea. If it were me I'd put a shotgun barrel up there. The lower pressure involved would let you put a bigger bore in smaller space. That sort of swing-out barrel has been used in the past. There are grenade launchers which work like that now. And I've seen custom rifles use similar mechanisms. Gun Jesus has shown at least two in his various videos.

Only thing bugging me about that sketch is the fact that the cylinder is octagonal, but it appears to still be a 6-shooter?

the chinese police basically use a version of this in their 5.8 pistol cartridge

thats whats bugging you? lmao well maybe the 3d ones have the angles wrong but the 2d is correct
I expected the complete lack of a mechanism to fire the second barrel would be the first question
my only explanation is press the R1 button
