Is there any advantage to hunting with a lever action as opposed to a bolt action?

they're faster to cycle than a bolt if you need to make a follow-up shot. But they're damn near impossible to accurize and I find the levers to be uncomfortable. I'm considering putting together a lever scout for when backpacking in grizzly country, but I would never really take a lever gat hunting

They're less gay

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Specific to hunting?
No. A bolt gun in the same or similar caliber will usually be cheaper, lighter, better balanced, and capable of better accuracy.

However, a lever gun has wider applications and is perfectly adequate for hunting, making it a better general purpose rifle if you have limitations (financial, legal, or otherwise) on the number of guns you can own.

>a lever gun has wider applications
Please elaborate.

Bolt guns are shit for defensive use.
Lever guns are tops.

Leverguns make better ranch/truck guns. They're better (though not necessarily ideal) for self defense against both people and aggressive wildlife due to faster follow-up shots. It's easier to find a levergun in handgun calibers if you wanted to share ammo between your rifle and revolver.

I prefer bolt actions if I'm going to rest the forend on anything for stability. Lever actions are good for shooting standing or kneeling.

Your mom’s pretty good at kneeling my nigger

The scope a snowball's chance in your ass of getting in the way of cycling

What?

Fast ambidextrous handling
Typically Excel with heavy slow bullets
Short and lightweight
Ideal brush gun for hunting and survival
Can take moose if need be with fuddy-fuddy

You’ve honestly never smacked your hand into a scope trying to work a bolt gun fast?

Sks makes best truck/ranch gun

But nowhere near as aesthetic

Depends if the bayonet is out or not

Not that specific user, but how'd you do that? Never done that. Lifting and pulling back with the meaty part of your palm and driving it shut with the heel is fast and keeps your hand clear of the action, scope, and any hot parts of the gun. I stopped using my fingers when I learned how to properly run a nugget and it's translated to every bolt gun since, scoped or not. Works especially well with mauser actions. Even my m70 supergrade, though I almost hate to touch that purty girl.
>slap that nugget around til it gets moist

No You fucking tard, because I have my lever BELOW the gun like most people.

Leverguns tend to be much handier in the woods, and followup shots are a bit faster.

I was talking about bolt guns.
What the fuck makes you think the leaver would be anywhere else?
Not even Fucking shitskins hold a leavergun sideways let alone upsideown
Fucking go watch terminator and cream in your leaver loving panties

>money

If there was one that could take 10 round mags, it would be a good alternative to an AR in ban states, as opposed to a bolt action. It takes skill to effectively Mad Minute a bolt action, but any idiot can work a lever.

Yes. That's why I would prefer something more low profile if I was going to use a bolt action as a combat weapon.

That wasn't the question.

>Bolts are shit for defense
Huh?

They’re faster and you don’t lose sight picture.

SKS is Shitty everything gun.

>tfw Savage will never bring back the 99 with new magazine options
>tfw the .308 99 was shitty compared to the rotary version anyway

Ambidextrous, faster operation, usually greater capacity.

Advantage:
Cheek weld, sight picture, and shoulder contact can be maintained cycling lever gun. Depending on model, topping of the magazine is also easy.
Disadvantage: some bullet shapes will not work well.

whats wrong with the .308 savage? I've got a savage 99C. Other than not being able to withstand more than 20 rounds from it, i like the thing

Attached: wm_7843123.jpg (2592x1728, 312K)

Nothing, really. I'm just salty because .300 Savage for my 99F is expensive and hard to find in any real quantity.

>Browning BLR or henry long ranger with double stack 10 rounder when brother?
Also like i mentioned, whats your range trip round count with the 99? i wanna speed shoot with it since its my only lever but the .308 herts

Usually 15-ish per trip, the recoil from .300 is basically the same as the .308 and the Featherlight attempts to dislocate my arm with every damn shot. I'd love to speed shoot mine too but I can't bring myself to fuck up the aesthetic and my reputation with a pussy buttpad.

>BLR with doublestack
mmmm

Just testing the water, how much did the 99s cost you fellas? A quick duckduckgo had prices all over the place

about $350
isn't duckduckgo a VPN?

Mine was my great-grandfather's, so nothing. I've looked extensively over the years for one in .308, and I'd say you're probably looking at about $500 depending on exact model and vintage.

Thanks, I'll see what I can dig up near those. It's a search engine. They might provide a VPN service but I haven't heard of one.

Ruger Model 96/22, sadly, it's no longer in production, but it takes any of the 10/22 mags.

Attached: GOATgun.jpg (582x432, 59K)

I want a .22HP takedown, so like a gramd or more

This with a hundred round drum and hundreds of small reactive targets at 10-100 yds

Yeehaw factor

I was thinking more of a BLR in 223 or 308 and then modifying the magwel to take AR mags.

Yeah for home defense or hunting, .22 won't cut it, but for plinking, a mag-fed lever action would be great.

>using a post 1964 model 94
Absolute trash.

>Is there any advantage to hunting with a lever action as opposed to a bolt action?
Depends on the kind of hunting you do. If you leave the stand to still hunt ridgelines and underbrush during rifle a lever gun is ideal. Light, handy, easy to carry, and good for fast follow up shots. You don't want to be fumbling around with a bolt gun with a large scope on it to take a shot an a deer 50 yards away on the ground.

honestly the mag forward like that is ugly as sin. if the lever could somehow go around a mag like the WInchester 1894 would be better

>I find the levers to be uncomfortable.
$40 or less.

Attached: lever-wrap-pic-1[1].jpg (1280x853, 94K)

That's been solved for quite a while, user.

Kek

>Disadvantage: some bullet shapes will not work well
Discovered this for myself, bought some Fiocchi .357 Mag ammo to shoot, and my levergun kept jamming on them

PTR91 IS THE NEW SKS! Search your heart, you know it is true!

SKS is good, but it's not as light as a pistol-caliber lever-action

A Rossi 92 in .357 or .44 Mag weighs 5 pounds

As a leftie, would a lever gun serve me better than a bolt action? I'd still have the casing eject into my face, but at least the action is ambidextrous.
Noguns but looking at picking up a rifle. I also think lever guns have the best aesthetics of the two.

Attached: 1537554056010.jpg (1440x1080, 87K)

Honestly its not that hard to train to shoot right handed, it just takes a bit of practice is all.

t. cross dominant

get a top eject winchester 94

As a fellow southpaw, working a bolt from the left shoulder is a pain in the ass. It's a "better" choice to learn to shoot from the right shoulder, but I never bothered.

Typically the casing doesn't quite eject into your face, just off to the side. I have some nice cartridge burns on the inside of my right elbow, but I've never been hit in the face.
