Why haven't we made highly-portable MG and rocket sentries yet?

Why haven't we made highly-portable MG and rocket sentries yet?

because this isn't fucking vidya land and the technology isn't advanced enough to produce it at an acceptable cost. Not to mention all the political buzz that an autonomous killing machine would cause.

>Not to mention all the political buzz that an autonomous killing machine would cause.
Why must politics always ruin everything that is fun.

because that's just how life works user. Life isn't fun.

It wouldn't be completely autonomous. Humans would still have to physically move it from one place to another.

user, if it'll make you feel any better, I've learned that life is one crushing defeat after another until you just wish Flanders was dead.

For the same reason plasma or ray funs have not been invented yet, more so cannot and or will not be invented because of patenting laws that would infringe on current weapons and vehicles

You know, im genuinely curious now.

Fuck this faggot

>build a sentry like a christmas tree - steel back spine, allowing attachments
>add tracking unit
>bullet proof CPU box
>protected eye sensor
>double barrels of either rifle, or shotgun
>place inside of bunker doors or places that should be defended

I like this idea.

NFA and other dumbass laws about not killing people who trespass with booby traps

IFF isn't good enough. That's literally the only problem. Everything else is perfectly feasible right now and at decent costs. There are even human-controlled systems in place in the ROK, UAE, Israel and some testing done in the US as well.

The Sork Super-aEgis can identify targets pretty well based on weapons and uniforms but its telling that it still defers to a human operator for confirmation before firing and is usually deployed in place where nobody is supposed to be anyway like the DMZ.

And the US' Tower Hawk. Tower mounted M2s and .338s controlled by 2 operators in a comfy air-conditioned demountable building watching screens with cameras, thermals, NV. There was talk of including gunfire locator but I'm not sure if that's in the current version or if its just something they were thinking adding.

Wat

Wasn't there an autonomous AA gun used in WW2?

>Why haven't we made highly-portable MG and rocket sentries yet?
but we have.
they are called infantry soldiers.
they are semi-autonomous and almost sentient.
they can even follow simple verbal commands using a primitive form of speech recognition.
they can also move themselves around the battle space using integrated legs.
it's quite remarkable.

most AA guns in WW2 were radar guided

but threat recognition is much simpler for air threats in WW2
the only time that friendly fire would be a problem is if your own fighters were engaging them, and you could simply halt your own fire when that happened

on the ground, it is much more confusing
the terrain is much more likely to get in your way.
friendlies, enemies, and civilians are much harder to differentiate
and the situation can get much more confused, you might only shut it down after its already killed your friend, and this is an added level of stress that is not worth a stationary gun

You can't yet have a friend-foe-detection make decisions over life and death. They're still faulty to some degree, and i don't think that'll change too soon.

Fosbery style drum inside the "sleeve" that you see on the outside, the cylinders in the drum aren't bored equally spaced but instead in an equilateral triangle with each side being 2 chambers for the double barrel. 3 steps make up 1 whole revolution.
Lever is just a mix of an extractor and the loading rod from an old cap and ball revolver. Pulls out old cases and pushes in new.
