Well /k I need your help, this has turned up in an antiques shop near where I live and it looks legit, but I'm trying to work out where it's from before I buy it. So far what I've learned is that it seems to be a Bavarian officers Pickelhaube. Googling the Motto hasn't turned up anything and there are no identifying numbers or words on the inside or elsewhere.
Any ideas?

>Googling the Motto hasn't turned up anything

"In Treue fest" means strong in loyalty, it was the motto of the Bavarian kingdom and the reigning house of Wittelsbach. No idea about that fancy hat, but the motto is legit.

>suicide girls

nigga what kind of antiques shop is that

Ahh great that helps, I was thinking maybe it was a regimental motto or something, I was reading the font wrong it seems..

The best kind

Well, It's got considerable aging the metal is hand made atleast on parts of it and it looks cast.

In anycase, I'd buy it.

The price is relatively nice and for a replicate that's decent quality.

>The price is relatively nice
>395 bucks

are you serious? it's fucking ugly and maybe not even the real thing. what would be the reason to pay that much for that piece of metal

After a bit of googling I've found a few things out.
It's definitely Bavarian, seems to be private purchase rather than Issue and looks to be an officers helmet due to the Cruciform base of the spike and the officers "Kokarden" that rosette thing in the shitty side picture I took
Possibly 1871 pattern based on the Spike so could have seen use in the Franco Prussian war

Can't add any new info. But damn, that is a beautiful object. How is the leather holding up?

Look at the liner on the inside.

What’s the material feel like?

It's definitely aged, and easily old enough to be 1871 Pattern like I'm thinking. I'm just about to go get some better pictures of it so I can research it better. Also for people viewing, I'm a UKfag so it's 395 Pounds not Dollars.

>antique store sells hardcopy internet goth porn

I'm confused and aroused.

Ok so I got more pictures, the liner is definitely aged and I thought initially looked fake, but further research tells me it's pretty standard for a private purchased helmet liner rather than an issue one (I thought it was private purchased anyway). The other thing I'm not sure about are the chinstrap attachments being lion emblems which I can't see much information about.

For me to give an actual opinion you REALLY should have taken better photos. Almost impossible to give 100% answer with these photos. Didn't even think to photo the liner?

First impression though is it's artificially aged and the plate on the front is terrible quality.

thank you for better photo., yes, sorry helmet is fake. It has clearly been artificially aged in the liner.

It's shit but not as shit as Japanese shit. Want real shit then go scavange the battlefields in europe and find the real shit yourself.

So you are probably asking why it's fake, so I'll quickly explain. First look at front plate, specifically the center of it. Look out the lines are all shit quality. Bad casting.
Then look at liner, see all the black stuff on the headband? That is a clear sign of fake aging.
Then look at outside, the spike and metal strap. Not only is the metal quality absolute garbage, doesn't fit correctly, but clearly fake aged as well. Not to mention they did a terrible job of aging the outside leather. Looks like they took a blow torch and hammer to it or something lol.

Sorry buddy

What a shitty M1873 fake. The coat of arms is a very bad casted copy. It lacks all of the details which an original one has. Properly one that was used in theatres. Sadly that you didnt take any pictures from the inside.
It tries to be one for the Bavarian police or Gendarmerie.

Here are some inside views

Well the consensus seems to be that it's fake! I did have my doubts as it was so I'm glad I asked around haha. Many thanks for the help.

definitely, save your money for a nicer item!

I'm quite glad actually, now I won't be £400 poorer this month! I was researching the crest on the front and I know there's a few slightly different ones for Bavaria, but on looking closely it's quite a bit different from any of them. Quite blatant now I've looked into it a bit more!

Lots of experts here. Any chances of some good photos of the real thing for later reference?

Sure. Those variants were used till 1935.

Its in a very poor shape. Still its shows the typical moody green that was used by Bavaria after WW1. But someone tried to restore it with the fake coat of arms and also failed miserable with rest. The hangers are to short and the loins heads are rotated.
