Just out of curiosity, what would it take to bend a mauser action rifle? Could you do it with your body weight by accident?

I hate this board.

>your body weight
How much are we talking about here?

Considering most of /k is probably 300+ lbs it probably would bend if you sat on it, but for an average person, it most likely would be able to support the weight.

Asking because I left it on my bed, and accidentally stepped with on the barrel with my full weight on my foot

If it was just on the bed it should be fine. There is enough give in the bed. If you somehow had it propped up on a book or something and stepped in the middle...I guess I could see something potentially getting askew. But I doubt it.

It's probably fine if you're not an extreme fat body. Barrels are hardened steel and are made withstand combat environment and the pressure of the rounds going through them. Look down the bore of the rifle. You can probably see if theres any barrel curvature

let me see if i have this right...
you were walking on your bed and stepped on your rifle.
theres so much to unpack here.
you do not belong on this board.
and no, you have not bent your action unless you weigh a motherfucking ton.
these rifles were meant for hard use.

next time op use a qtddat thread

TL;dr
Your fat ass could break it
(I haven’t done this shit in a while, feel free to post corrections if you feel like it)

German mountain troops in WWII used their vz.33's as ladder rungs. Provided youre not a complete lardass, you should be fine

Easiest way to be sure is shoot it at 100 yards and see if your POI has shifted from your POA. I know an older guy and he told me once that as an apprentice in a gunsmith shop, the old guys used to take lead hammers and bend the barrels on rifles back all the time. This helped with guns that did not have enough windage or got very very slightly bent. It’s sounds ridiculous but I can see it happening.

Obviously a rifle that is very out of whack is going to have issues with the rifling erroding assuming you can get it close to being straight.

Looks like you did a shear calculation. OP wants to find out if the barrel would bend though, not completely break.

>could you do it with your body by accident?
I could do the calculations for the barrel if I had the data on what steel is used and if I had my notes on me. I’m just saying with the weight of an average Jow Forumsomando, he’d probably break the raifu before he bends the barrel.

Being serious, I honestly don’t know if he’d bend the barrel by sitting on it or not

Better to just use a hammer or a vice and bend it a little bit than to use ones body desu

people who know and like maths have always been the biggest secret to me. like, literally.

guy in my squad once broke the stock of my PKM by sitting on it.

i think bending a barrel on something so sturdy is hard work tho

It’s a fun time. I suffer, but it’s a fun time.

>you do not belong on this board.
this is a board for gun larpers

OP is in the right place

Unless you're Michael Moore tier then it should be alright

yes

Do not try fucking your rifle! Rifles are not for fucking!

It's humanly impossible to bend a mauser barrel unless you use a shitwack of leverage

Why were you walking on your bed

yes but how fucking fat are you

I'm 180 lbs

If you’re a fatass

B E N D I N G

It's fine.
If you want to check, pull the bolt out and look down the barrel from the breech end aiming at a light source. If the barrel is significantly bent it'll be immediately obvious.

Well we all know that this board uses them HARD

Just put your raifu on the other side and step on it again. It'll make your Mauser shoot straight again.
