Is .22LR a reasonable EDC caliber? My wife thinks she’s being followed (she’s pregnant and paranoid) but I don’t wanna get her something that when I take her to shoot it, it’ll turn her off to guns forever, .22 seems reasonable that she could get efficient in it and it’ll fucking hurt if she’s got to lob a couple at someone.
Alternatively, caliber suggestions?

Kill her then yourself
Yes .22 should be alright, get her HPs and get her something with a fuck ton of rounds.
Only if its in a revolver, because if she has a dud she can keep shooting
Get her adjusted with a .22 and get 9mm for carry retard if you're that worried about her being turned off guns.
start 22 and emphasize the fun of shooting and all that good stuff. then maybe look at moving her up to 9mm, which really is entry level for EDC. Sure 22 can kill, but it doesn't have anywhere near the same tissue damage or knock down power to actually counter a threat. A lot of people could take a 22 and keep running if the shot placement wasn't right and didn't clip major blood vessels. Plus 22 hollow points don't expand at all really and so you're missing a huge component that makes defense rounds really effective
also since I assume she'll have a purse you can also have her carry a bit of a bigger gun depending on the size of her bag/purse, that can also help with recoil if you're worried about that being a major turn off. But yeah, emphasize the fun of shooting and have it be a game to kind of get her hooked.
This, if you're serious about self defense and she isn't made of actual glass, is what you should be doing
If you go with .22lr get her a 22 revolver and put cci velocitors in it.
sounds reasonable, honestly. I agree with the revolver suggestions, but think about it logically; there's a basically zero chance she will ever need to use it. it will make her feel more comfortable, be easy and cheap to train on, and just a fun gun to own.
I'd make that call 9.5 times out of 10.
Pregnant women shouldn't go shooting, the lead and primer can hurt the kid.
Have her get pepper spray
t. indoor range city slicker
Lead and primer? I'm pretty sure that a gun going off might cause the kid to go deaf in utero. Granted, a gat is better than pepper spray, but it's better for her to avoid having to use one in the first place.

This dude gets shot like 5 times and is still a threat, gets shot two more times and goes down but still survived.
380 is also popular and soft shooting.
Full-size pistol in .22 TCM. Soft recoil, serious firepower, it's a starter gun that she never needs to outgrow. If she wants something more, she can move up to .357 sig, but .22 TCM is good enough that she doesn't need to.
Take her to an outdoor range and have her double up with muffs and plugs the first time, so the report isn't intimidating; in time, of course, she'll learn to love the gentle flash-bang, and despise lesser guns that are quieter, recoil harder, and deliver less energy.
>.22tcm
This but unironically. It really was built for this kind of thing. And they make compact pistols chambered in it.
6.5x25 CBJ
get her a 10mm
12 gauge sabot flechettes
Bonus in that the .22 TCM can be chambered to 9mm with just a barrel swap, if memory serves. If I'm wrong, just correct me and we'll move on from there.
My sister is a twig and I started her on 9mm. Don't be that asshole who thinks women can't shoot nine.
>His wife doesn't regularly practice malfunction drills
No, it's not reasonable considering there are many better options.
I think there's generally a recoil spring swap as well, but yeah. (Which is another point in .22 TCM's favor -- light recoil spring means easy to rack.)
Of course women can shoot 9, but that doesn't mean they need to. She's probably not gonna shoot enough to care about 9's one unarguable benefit, lower cost/round.
The difference between .22 TCM and 9mm for an average woman handling guns the first time is like the difference between 9mm and .40 or 10mm for experienced shooters -- sure, you can handle the harder-kicking round, but you'd be making faster, more accurate followup shots with the lighter recoiling option. Why handicap yourself?
(Especially since .22 TCM doesn't seem to have any ballistic weakness to go with its light recoil. While I don't know of any data from real-world uses, it's better than 5.7x28 on paper, and that round certainly did alright for the Ft. Hood faggot Hasan.)
Why not. That thing has 8 shots and won't jam (as semi auto 22s are more prone to do).
The important point here is giving here a gun, any gun, which will be a massive improvement over no gun at all. Then you hit the point of diminishing return pretty fast.
The difference in recoil between 22 and 9mm is tremendous for a new, unmotivated shooter. Long time gun owners have trouble understanding it because to them it feels the same, but a small 9mm will jump in your hand if you don't expect it while you can shoot 22 one handed all day everday.
Make sure she's not paranoid enough to shoot a random passer-by. Hormones are weird.

I heard that .22 is the deadliest round, because it fragments inside your body and flies around inside, turning everything into mush
Have you considered .380ACP? It is a tad lighter than 9x19mm recoil wise, whilst still being a massive step up in the damage department from .22lr.
