What are the essential guns that a new owner must have?

if you wanna be a total faggot then sure
well im not sure if i want to be a total faggot yet. have any suggestions? i only have an air rifle
Your traditional American household battery used to be:
>A .22 rifle
>A 12 gauge
>A .30-06/.308/.70 or whatever
Your modern-man, forward-thinking standard-issue gun-guy-on-the-internet loadout is now:
>An AR-15
>A Glock 19
Get both.
dont get a glock unless you are sure that you like the grip. when it comes to handguns, get something that fits your hand as best as possible.
whats the standard for ar15s and 12 gauge shotguns? i want to be as standard as possible
ive held a glock 19 before. really like it. i define average.
comprehensive beginner’s guide

For ARs, get a Smith&Wesson M&P Sport II or a Ruger AR556.
For a shotgun, get a Mossberg 500.
There are definitely other good options, some might be better/more expensive, some might be cheaper/just as good, but those are absolutely solid basic choices.
If you are just getting started, I'd get some courses on handling, cleaning, and understanding the operation of firearms first, then go to the range, rent some guns, and see what you like and can handle. This is basic training which is most all people really need.
As far as what to get, think first about the environment you are in, then think about what you expect your troubles to be, then finally think about what you are comfortable with and can handle. Then, don't go cheap on your guns, because they are there to protect your life and those you care about.
E.G I live in an urban area. I've got 2 handguns, one of which is concealable, a shotgun, AR-15, Semi-auto sniper rifle, few other weapons I won't mentioned. My use cases are covered.
To expound on that very briefly:
If you want cheaper side of standard issue, get a PSA upper and lower and slap em together, and get a Maverick 88.
If you want the nicer end of standard issue, get a Ruger MPR and a Mossberg 590 or vintage Remington 870.
thanks
You should have a concealed carry gun, a full sized hand gun, and a semi auto long gun with a detachable magazine. However I would also accept a lever action or bolt action long gun depending on your environment.
mp9 $400
mossberg 500 combo(2 barrels)$330, maverick 88 $180 on sale
savage trophy hunter with scope $400
psa ar15 $400
you now own 4 guns that will cover most your needs for self defense or hunting and you havnt spent but around 1200 of your 3000 budget
use the rest on a nice ar10 or fal or something for a weapon to purge dindus
*record scratch*
Yup, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got into this mess in the first place
>mp9 $400
What? Pretty sure they start over $1K.
that’s m AND p, not mp
The pragmatic list is any basic AR15, a glock 19, and a mossberg 500 variant.
That isn't a hard requirement, in reality it's more like:
>any reliable semiautomatic magazine fed carbine in an intermediate round
>any shotgun, period, at all, doesn't really matter just have one that works well
>any concealable handgun in a popular cartridge
optional choices are
>precision boltgun in a full size rifle caliber
>"""combat""" full size pistol
>any good .22lr rifle
And the rest is fully dependent on the user at hand. Big bore revolver if you muck around in bear country, battle rifle if you live in wide open areas, levergun if you have certain hunting restrictions, etc
>.70
user i...
This.
doesn't matter the brand but if you have a 12 gauge, a .22, a good hunting rifle, a good semi auto in an intermediate cartridge, and a pistol you'll be set for most occasions.
This. With the addition of a g19.
>Vintage
Shit made in 06 should be fine. Not considered vintage. Litteraly around 14-18+ Remington 870 are shit.
Mossberg 500 is a good shotgun. Avoid new Remington.
A good $750-800 AR will work, with your budget don't scrape the bottom of the barrel.
The Glock 19 rounds out the basic 3, literally nothing wrong with it. It's just generic these days.
Now here's what you missed, a good .22lr rifle. Their value as a small game gun and pure recreational shooting is unmatched.
How autistic is this post?
>AR-15 in .458socom
For hunting/ race war
>AR-10 in 6.5 creedmoor
For hunting/race war
>Mossberg 500, 18.5" barrel 7+1 mag tube
For hunting/ race war
>Glock 20
For EDC/ race war
>Riced out g21 in .460 rowland
PDW/ home defense weapon/ race war
>Add an additional barrel for the g21 for a suppressor for HD/ Race war.
Is this autistic or do these fit the bill for effective use as definied above?
>.458socom
> 6.5 creedmoor
>.460 rowland
Completely autistic.
>Mossberg 500, 18.5"/hunting
Not ideal. They sell a feild/security combo for a little more that is entirely worth it.
I'm not a fan of glocks, they are just so basic when there are great competitors out today.
Ok. But
>.458socom= 45-70
Great for stopping "medium sized game" in >300 yards.
>6.5 creedmoor
Great for stopping "medium sized game" in .460 Rowland
That's just a good ,solid ,SEMI AUTOMATIC handgun round with 13+ follow up shots approaching magnum handgun round levels or energy transfer with expansion bullets and SOLID magnum round penetration with controlled expansion rounds.
I appreciate the (you) but I legitimately am currently driving towards owning them all for the affore mentioned reasons. I reload, I don't know if that makes a difference or not to you, but it means the world to me.
This, basically perfect beginner setup. I actually started with a mossberg 500 and an m&p9. Then got an m&p15 and later other shit including a glock
>A wonder nine
>An AR
>A shotgun
>A .22 plinking rifle.
As for the last one, a lot of people would recommend a 10/22, but I prefer manual action rifles in .22, so I'd say maybe a Henry levergun in that caliber.
>tfw no 460 Glock
nice elaboration there
$3000 is too much to spend on guns as a new owner
get a full-size glock in whatever caliber your local/state PD uses, and some pump shotgun12ga - although the KSG could definitely replace this, if your budget is sincere
>Henry levergun in that caliber.
Lever actions have complicated mechanics. Complication means more can go wrong. A Ruger 10/22 is a much simpler piece of equipment. I can think of not reason to choose a lever action .22 over a 10/22....other than personal preference.
manual actions are better for learning fundamentals for a new shooter since more time and thought is forced on the shooter for each shot.
>For a shotgun, get a Mossberg 500.
And I'd make sure it's for 3 inch .12 ga magnums, even if you're not shooting .12 mag.
If you are new to shooting, get something you enjoy shooting, 5.56/.223 has light recoil.
>then go to the range, rent some guns, and see what you like and can handle.
this post 100%
>.458socom= 45-70
Lmao, find me 3700+ ft*lbf commercial 458 ammunition.
I had to look that poster up just to find out its real.baka
AR: AR
Pistol: G43
Shotgun: Winchester M1897
the REAL trick is to pick few calibers that work for you, and stick to 'em
like .45? fine. 9mm? fine too..357? great.
just don't get like 10 handguns all in different calibers. it gets confusing in a pinch and when you run out of ammo for a gun you have to switch weapons.
same for rifles and shotguns.
my 3 calibers are .308/762x51, 10mm and 12 gauge. I have a couple oddballs but typically when I buy a new gun it'll be in one of those 3 calibers. my ammo stocks fit most of my guns, and if one breaks, I can just grab another and keep using my same ammo.
also, I would highly recommend a .22 LR and a 12 gauge. you absolutely cannot go wrong with at least one gun chambered in each of those.
6.5 creedmoor is not "great" for killing medium sized game lmao
You also are not going to be taking shots at anything living at 500 yards in your life.
A 10/22 .22lr
A msr in an intermediate caliber 556/762/545 ak/ar/rdb/tavor/ etcetc
A 9mm pistol fullsize if not carrying compact if carrying from reputable maker thats comfortable in hand
12ga shotgun mossberg 500 or such.
Lemme do it a lil differently and more practical.
Ruger 10/22 $200 training, plinking, pests, tree rats
Bodyguard 380 $278 a must have imo. Allows you to carry always, despite your attire or laziness level
Glock 17 $500 not even a glockfag, but with a light, 17 round mags, optional 33rd mag, i think you have a full size defensive, vehicle, and travel weapon
Maverick 88 $200 get a nicer shotgun later. This is your self defense weapon. IMO you don't need an AR in any way, unless your move is to combine hunting/defense/plinking, but I'm trying to get you the most guns for your budget. Your average self defense situation is already unlikely and will be well handled by a shotgun. Also plinking and some hunting.
Ruger Blackhawk .44 mag $500 Your cheap introduction to revolvers, good quality, will help you learn pistol shooty, and can kill a deer or defend from bear in a survival or hiking situation
Marlin 1894 .44 mag $500 Oh looky here, the weapon to surpass metal gear. Extremely portable, rapid fire, powerful, 10 round mag that can be topped off as you shoot, deer worthy, bear worthy, camping, survival, etc.
So we are at $2,178. We have a pocket gun, a full size pistol, a high power pistol, a shotgun, a rifle, and a .22 rifle. 6 guns. Various options for travel, vehicle, carry, hiking, hunting, survival, self defense, and plinking. $822 left over for taxes and shit, and the most important thing that is never added to these budgets: range time and ammo.
Where I hunt a cheap 30-30 or a 44mag with good aim and ammo is more than sufficient for hunting. If you want to focus more on hunting maybe get a better .22 with optic and one of those cheap bolt guns that come with a cheap scope, or scrap the .44 mags and invest $1200 into a hunting rifle. I would say your next purchase would be a nice .22 revolver or semi auto for increased plinking, training, and tree rat removal. After that buy a better shotgun.
Uma.
If you have a local gun store that sells police trade-ins look for a Remington 870 Police Magnum. The Police models are higher quality than the standard 870 and they are usually in pretty nice shape. Carried a lot and shot very little.
I would say only AR-15s should be essential because of their low cost, and how close they are to being banned. Shotguns too, because price. You should change "glock" to "any doublestack handgun that isn't garbage" (not saying Glocks are garbage, just that there are alternatives).
