What should I get? Primarily hunting hogs and coyotes and shit like that.
I like the red dots, but honestly don't know jack.
This is what I got with standard Iron Sights.

Preferably less than $400.

This or the 336, its the 3x model.
Fills a good niche between hunting scope and shorter range plinking.
Steiner M332 $556.99
Get a vortex sight. They're cheap and made in America. If you can find an eotech or aimpoint used below $400 that would be ideal
Can't go wrong with the Aimpoint PRO. If you wait for a sale, you can get one for around $300-350 shipped.
I am really digging the 3x of this model. How does it do at night with a flashlight?
>Military
test
Learn to shoot irons and then put any ol' leupold on it.
If youre hog hunting, may want to get something in 30 cal minimum. Those fuckers are tough.
>or just get a .458 SOCOM upper to hot-swap
I killed a couple last weekend with just ironsights. It gets pretty dark where I am as well, so a night scope or a good flashlight mount would be good too
Vortex strikefire ii. 179$
Life time warranty and absolutely amazing for the money. Throw it on, sight it in, and enjoy!
Why would you need a sniper scope unless you were intending on killing unsuspecting people from hidden position? It’s a real bad look, buying an instrument that’s designed to help humans kill other humans, Im not going to make you justify your hobbies, but just understand what normal people like me think of this kind of thing. Why not just find a different hobby that doesn’t revolve around weapons? I mean there’s video games, Netflix, exercises, fashion, why does everything have to be about killing? Are you a police officer? Are you a soldier in the military? It doesn’t sound too fulfilling or healthy to take an obsession in anything dangerous.

I bought the Vortex Strikefire II 1x and I like it a bunch.
It was my first optic purchase and I'm happy with it, nice eye relief, decent battery life comparatively.
I hear ya brother, but I’m a real big hunter so that’s really the only reason I own a gun, and even then it’s just stuff like shotguns, Id never own an assault weapon or anything like that because I have a family with kids.
kindly fuck off, the both of you.
Is it a big deal that it's a 4moa dot instead of a 2? Never used a red dot sight outside of shooting a few shots out of a rifle with an eokek on it.
I was between a Holosun and a Strikefire for baby's first optic, either the 2moa dot or dot in circle models for the Holosun.
I have a PA 2.5x Prism scope with ACSS reticle. It’s a great match for you imo

Practice with irons first nigger.
Burris C4
3x9 40mm make sure it has horizontal tick marks so you can lead them when they run after the first shot.
Nice. I have a 3x and 5x, built like tanks
Unironically this. Once ya learn to use irons and basic handling skills, like trigger control with stance will do awesome. I thought I knew how to use irons but as soon as i got out to a range with 300/400 yards targets, i learned i had to learn.
For $400 range atn xsight day/night vision. Good enough for like 150 yards at night.

Apparently .17HMR works just fine. Maybe accuracy and anatomy knowledge is what matters more than the size of the bullet, hmm?
I think I have that same one, it's p good but I can't claim to be an optics expert
I kid you not, one of the most precise hog hunters I know uses sub-sonic 40gr 22lr and a suppressed bolt action savage with an ATN X sight.
He waits and waits for a perfect shot, right in the ear canal and they just drop like a sack of potatoes, and often the rest don’t get spooked.
Since half of the population has astigmatism, first check if you see a clear dot on a red dot if you go that route.
My personal choice would be a low power variable optic, since it's almost a red-dot at 1x and gives you decent magnification for further ranges.
so sth. like a Vortex Strike Eagle or Primary Arms 1-6X24mm FFP
(FFP is a really nice feature in that price-range)
Do different red dots have different interactions with astigmatism? I only knew about eotechs because they're holographic.
And how are 1x prism sights? I heard they're good alternatives for people with astigmatism. My main hangup with prism sights and variable optics are that one of the appealing things to me is muh infinite eye relief which I thought was only a thing for red dots.
Maybe I want to shoot antifa, what I want isn’t your problem is it so stfu
>Do different red dots have different interactions with astigmatism? I only knew about eotechs because they're holographic.
>And how are 1x prism sights
Prisms aren't much different to using a variable at 1x, it looks clear to most people, but as you mentioned there isn't unlimited eye-relief.
a 1x prism with etched reticle is only cheaper at the same 1x quality, so you get a good eye-box for less money.
Eotechs look better to some since the technology is different, but its different from person to person.
know someone seeing a comma on an MRO or aimpoint and similar, both non magnified or using a 3x magnifier,
while the eotech is a bit fuzzy at 1x and clear magnified.
