This, holy shit. It isn't rocket surgery. I made these all the time when I was a fucking kid.
Also, it's not going to clear shit like you expect it to. Although, I would make tiny ones out of those little CO2 canisters, drill holes in logs and the bomb would split it. A mull is a lot more practical, but it was fun.

About the only effective or useful application of explosives to trees would be if you have to lift a stump.
Dig down under the stump and mix 10-20kg of ANFO, add a HE booster, and lift.

Yeah because the atf budget is so large that they can pull ruby ridge tier shit on people proposing a legal method of removing a stump. Half my uncle's have fucking blasting or permits and that is in Canada and the rcmp is way more crazy than the atf and they have never gotten more than a notice about dynamite being expired.
That said tannerite is crap for removing stumps find a local powder monkey and just watch the show it's safer and cheaper.
