I don't own a revolver, and wanted to get one for range/home defense. Some guy is selling a Model 66-4 inch Smith for $500 (which seems too good to be true), and I see they're going for $750 to $800 brand new in my local gun stores.
He said he shot around 600 rounds though it, some .357 and some .38s, it looks well taken care of from the pics he sent me.
Should I cop it, or am I being ripped off? Any other advice you guys want to give me when buying used guns?

I've been doing that with pretty much every gun I've bought, but $300 shaved off a gun, not including tax, (which in reality brings it closer to $400s savings), seems like a good deal. Memes aside, I just wanted to know if I'm being ripped off, or getting a decent deal.

Nothing wrong with taurus as long as you inspect it before purchase to see if a defect slipped through their shitty QC. We're in the timeline where Taurs is getting better while S&W is getting shittier. What a ride.
I'd only recommend buying used if you can reliably inspect it first or if the deal is too good to pass. I've bought plenty of used guns that ended up having issues that the seller never mentioned such as broken extractors, poor feeding, shot out barrels, and broken firing pins. Now I always inspect everything first
I bought a Beretta from an older guy once. The gun ran flawlessly, but after I handled it at the range, all these previous scratches that were on it appeared out of nowhere. He must have sharpied all the scratches. Touche boomer, touche.
Indeed this is what is pushing me towards the Taurus. They have good reviews everywhere, and I'm starting to see more bad reviews about Smithy
