Short answer: Because russians on this board are generally pretty shit.
Long answer: Russians and their fans ruined their reputation and even alinated most of their supporters and neutral anons in and after the ukraine conflict. That isn't true at all. There were in fact two incidents and in the first the American ships really were fired upon by North Vietnamese ships. In the second the Americans believed they were under attack, but had mistaken lights along the shore for muzzle flashes in bad weather.
