I am talking about stationary posts/forts.
In my opinion M249 is the best fucking thing you can have, easy to operate, reliable, transferable.

M249 has no quick change barrel. Neither does it have a barrier blind cartridge like .308 or that new dangled normamag cartridge.
If you're dug into a hardened target that is well known by the enemy, you're going to be shooting lots. Quick change belt fed is essential.
I do like the SAW ALICE pouch. It makes a Good possibles bag.

Drones + artillery with guided shells/rockets. There is never really a need for short range saturated fire. Even though the absolute numbers of people crossing are high, they come through in small groups scattered all over the place and time. Just plant a small group of MLRS every 40 miles and use drones to spot targets for them and kill stragglers.

No, dumbass. You're thinking too short range. Just use drones to pick out targets for MLRS Ukraine-style. That way more centralized bases in more easily accessible locations can service dozens of miles of border each.
