We have just about zero interest in invading Venezuela.

We don't even need their oil anymore--in fact, because shale oil is the lightest and sweetest crude on the planet, we're re-tooling all of our refineries to take advantage of it. Venezuela's gunk, on the other hand, is the worst in the world (only parts of Siberia come close).

The US is historically the only country that ever had refineries capable of dealing with Venezuelan crude. Once we switch over completely to light/sweet, PDVSA will no longer have anybody left to sell to.

We don't need to invade. What we need to do instead is rub everybody's noses into their fate that proclaimed that socialism was the future and Venezuela was a role model.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, they'll most likely retain the Senate by a decent margin with how many vulnerable Democrats there are right now. Hell, just counting the safe or heavily leaning Republican seats they're already at 50 then add in Clair McCaskill going full retard in Missouri over guns and Planned Parenthood and you have the Republicans at the magical 51 and that's assuming they don't manage to win any of the other toss-up races. I don't think they'll retain the house though, the map favors the Democrats too much for that to be very likely barring an absolute last minute bombshell in the Republicans favor. By any reasonably metric this is the Republicans "winning" in the midterms, the party that controls the executive almost always looses some/all legislative power, so the Republicans retaining the Senate and barely losing the house is the Democrats actually performing very poorly by historical standards.

I doubt this as well, Trump likes to talk a big game and bluster and threaten to get people to the table (See: Trade wars, North Korea), but ultimately he backs off just short of full crazy. Unless Venezuela openly attacks the US there is no political will to do anything, and if Trump is anything, he's good at getting a feel for people around him and what he can and can't get away with.
