What's Jow Forumss opinion on 6.5 grendel?

Its supposed to offer somewhat of a .308 win ballistic in an ar 15 platform.

Certainly an interdasting cartridge. Has a really great sectional density and is really efficient but it definitely needs a much longer barrel to be effective. I could see something like the KAC LAMG being chambered in it and using a 24in barrel to give it basically 7.62mm ballistics but in a much shorter, lighter receiver with much lighter ammunition.

I like it and it kills deers ded

I was looking at bcas and PSAs 6.5 uppers. Would you say a 20" or 24" would be optimal for accuracy?

Kind of pointless without very long barrels, lacks case capacity to have heavy lead free projectiles and a hot enough load to have that sweet velocity for the long range shooting that is its niche.

Barrel length doesn't affect accuracy.

Barrel length has little effect on accuracy and generally longer barrels are less mechanically accurate.

The grundle doesn't gain all that much velocity out of anything over 18", I would say 18-20" is ideal for anything but a dedicated target gun.

Barrel length does not effect mechanical accuracy, but there are more variables effected by velocity than mechanical accuracy.

Its too slow and the bc too low

Are 6mm bullets meant to be fast and long range orientated?

>Barrel length does not effect mechanical accuracy
False. All else being equal the shorter barrel will be more accurate.

>false
>proceed to repeat another myth

I’m pissed at it
I bought 5 boxes of ammo for my 6.5 MemeMoor and there was a box of 6.5 Gren mixed in on the wrong shelf.
I was pissed.

We need a AR chambered in 577/450 zulu killer.

Mine is really accurate, and I like it alot.

>tfw no 8mm Mauser AR
>I have no face

it's a compromise round.
it's arguably not as good as 5.56 or 5.45 in close quarters (500)
So I guess the question is one of purpose. Are we hunting? LR? DMR?

Sounds like a great way to make a smokescreen.

>fast
debatable
>long range
actually yes. they have exceptionally good coefficients for the size. you basically have to step up to super heavy 7mm bullets to find something with a better b/c than a 6.5 140/147 gr

Calibers the AR needs to be chambered in.
>6.5 Jap
>7.7 Jap
>577 Snider
>577/450
>6.5 Caracano
>6.5 Swedish
>8mm mauser
>8mm Nambu
>9x18 Makarov
>11mm Murata
>Knife or pointy objects in general
>Firing pins
>8mm Pak
>Mike and Ikes
and many other great and obscure calibers.

I would collect all the uppers

AR uppers are POGS for gun nuts.

That's a feature.

What?

Do u even slam, bro?

Ideal long range bullet is in the 123 grain territory scoring a 0.510G1 BC. Much heavier than that and you're arguably trading away to much powder capacity for range. 20" barrel will send that 123 grain between 2500-2550 fps but greater might be attainable through handloading. 16" is closer to 2380 and 2430 fps.
It's one of if not the highest energy double stack AR15 caliber and has more than enough energy to take game or kill men reliably with.
One of its neat features, despite having great range, it has a very long barrel life. Better than 5.56 and 308.
It's considered an intermediate caliber though OP. It's for an ar15. 308 is a rifle caliber and goes in an AR10.

You mean people with disposable income and are capable of making their own choices?

>Hornady Blacked™

There are limitations to the AR mechanics. Rimmed cartridges cause issues. But I'm content with the wildcat offerings we already have.

Socom is GOAT thumper

Not legal in a couple states for hunting.
>Cartridge must be straight walled and less than 1.8" in length.
Bushmaster and Beowulf are legal in that circumstance.

Probably the current best choice for equipping your private army.

Then they should be using a 45/70 leverghat anyway.
SOCOM is still best bulletgirl

>.45-70 case length= 2.105 inches.
Nope.
It's sad you don't even know that .45-70 is a long cartridge. Stick to /a/ and leave Jow Forums to the adults

>Grendel fanboys still think it outperforms 7.62x51 because the compared it to 7.62x39

6.5 Grendel is one of the bst AR-15 platform cartridges as of now. .224 Valkyrie is a good target shooting round, but it over-achieves when it comes to range. Hopefully, it'll become more popular, though it's doubtful if the US decides to switch calibers and sell of some surplus.

It can do better some 308 loadings like m80 ball. I don't think it can even compete with newer long range loads. It's neat because of how close it gets in an ar15/intermediate size.
Nice trips btw

Damn fine addition for hunting with an AR15, especially if you need something bigger than 60/70gr copper solids. Same weight as a 7.62x39 SST, but with even more SD and velocity. 6.8x42 does the same, but 6.5x39 comes with an added bonus of bucking wind better for long range target practice.

As regards .308 vs 6.5G, I think a lot of people ignore how much more mass and velocity .308 carries within either calibers hunting range.

Damn bro, what range? 100y?

Not him but 45 70 is allowed by name in my state with similar rules
