Do you think it's a good thing to do every once in a while? I'm honestly a little scared to.
When's the last time you shot a gun without ear protection?
I did it last month when I was hog hunting. Fired of three rounds of 6.8. Didn’t ring my ears cuz of adrenaline maybe.
I never do when I shoot my 22 rifles. Probably should.
I shot some .22 without earpro a year or two ago.
Why would shooting without earpro ever be a good thing to do?
Yeah dude periodically damaging your hearing makes it come back bigger than ever. It's a little known fact the the hearing side industry aka Big Pharma dont want you to know about
Same thing with your eyes, holding a flame directly to your cornea increases rod production and leads to greater night vision
I was thinking it might be a good thing to experience maybe once a month just so I'm not caught off guard if I have to use my gun defensively. Kind of like getting over the flinch as a new shooter, getting used to the impact of the sound on my ears
Usually dont wear ear protection if I'm memeing around with black powder, but other than that I prefer not to have to say mawp every few seconds.
Fired a moist nugget blank on July 4th.
>EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>Do you think it's a good thing to do
no, not unless you want to lose hearing
Adrenaline will make you not give a single fuck about the noise until your brain feels that your life is no longer in danger
>When's the last time you shot a gun without ear protection?
Ears fell out and I didn't notice once like two years ago.
>Do you think it's a good thing to do
Fuck no. Hearing loss is permanent and crippling, don't do unless there's literally no other option.
If you're in a defensive situation, it will probably be a stressful enough event that you'd experience auditory exclusion from all the adrenaline like soldiers do. You won't even notice. People still flinch with hearing protection on because of anticipation and because their sinuses get hit with the concussive blast. Just practice to where you have good habits and techniques. There's no need to fuck up your hearing.
If you flinch from the anticipated sound of a gunshot, and this reflex is so strong you have a fear it will prevent your ability from protecting yourself, I have absolutely nothing to say other than you are such a spineless, sackless, sad sack of expelled CO2 you shouldn't even be around anything that isnt safety proofed 100 times over with foam, bubble wrap and encouraging statements. To the degree that I'm truly embarrassed to even reply to your post as that means associating with you.
Furthermore you're either ready or not ready to use your gun in a self defense situation. If you're ready, you succeed and stop the threat. If you're not, you fail and pay the price. Simple as that. Theres no "my hands were ready but my ears werent" or "I was kinda ready".
By that logic you might as well shoot yourself periodically, that way if someone shoots back and hits you you're more prepared. Or do I need to explain why that's retarded too?
12 gauge with birdshot and a 20" barrel or longer is no big deal, although you should always wear hearing protection. This one isn't too bad though.
MEEP
MEEP
I have the eeeeee forever I was suicidal and went into the woods. I had a .22lt revolver I had it against my head and the aimed away and fired 6 shots. I got I'll and puked and passed out in the woods. The eeeeee was so bad. Today I stick hear it in the distabt
Shoot yourself with .22 that way if you get shot by something else you will be use to it.
Which grain do you use?
Yep; adrenaline shut-down, it's why NCO yell so much when on the line. But your ear hairs still get KO'd no matter what. Ask me how I know!
T: darn near deaf
BINGO!
I still go to the range but I double up on earpro worrying it will get worse. I love shooting so I can't stop
Commits suicide, and misses. Pays for it the rest of his life w/ringing tones in his head.
Truly a K among Ks!
We bow down before you!
100 grain hornady full boar. I know a lot of the stuff marketed as hog ammo is a meme but it worked great.
>last time
when I was much younger shooting .22LR
>do you think it's a good thing to do every once in a while
no. Even while hunting I wear ear pro (granted it's electronic ear pro)
22 years ago and fuck no. Your odds of running into a situation where you have to defend yourself are pretty low and not worth risking permanent ear damage.
I always wondered about this. Do all of our soldiers wear ear pro in the fight? How do they hear orders?
.22 short from a rifle just the other day, not sure that counts, though. Entirely comfortable, maybe even technically safe.
>go to indoor range
>BOOM BOOM BOOM
>realize I forgot to put ears on in the prep chamber
When I was 15 shooting .22's with my cousin, we were the fags who shot up a top sign lmao. Good time in rural Iowa. One was a funky rifle, had an action that could be either semi or manual depending on what you set it to before firing, can't remember the name.
Shooting a gun without earpro occasionally is not going to noticeably affect your hearing. Its the cumulative damage over time that gets you. Your dentist doesnt make you wear earpro when he drills your teeth, but he will be a deaf motherfucker in 20 years unless he muffs up.
WHAT!?!?
>EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>please make it stop
It hurts and rings your ears. Depends on the round. SBR 556 is deafening and very painful.
Eventually you recover and get your hearing back, but then a few years later you start to notice an EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, when you are trying to sleep and that your hearing is a little weaker.
Just get some ear pro, electronic stuff is good.
Last weekend. Turns out .38 S&W is pleasant on the ears
No, they all get hearing damage. You belong to the government, it doesn't matter.
You need a sound to last a few moments to actually perceive how loud it is. Just because something is comfortable in no way means it is safe. When you see youtubers not using ears because they are using a suppressor and say it is comfortable... they are still doing 130-140db and that is causing instantaneous damage.
Protip. A lot of EEEEEE is caused by tension in the jaw muscles. They can and do crosstalk with the auditory nerves as they follow the same path through the skull into the brain.
Relax your jaw and massage your temples. If your EEEEEEE changes than it is due in part to jaw tension.
>Eventually you recover and get your hearing back
No physical damage ever fully heals on a human being.
>Fired a moist nugget blank
>>EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Someone isn't russian.
Shot my AR without earpro, bearable, about a year ago, showed it to my uncle and we took a few pot shots, then my Ruger LCP and it was completely unbearable. Honestly the sound of that thing is enough to make someone not want to attack you, it's like getting punched in the face.
I'm still amazed that I'm not deaf or have tinnitus from the time my cousin N'd my Mosin when I handed it to him. I had taken my ear pro off when I reloaded it for him and he fucking pulled the trigger with his fucking boogerhooker. I told him to keep is fucking finger out of the trigger guard because the rifle didn't have a safety, but when I handed him the gun it went off. Sounded like a goddamn cannon went off a few inches away from head.
Long story short, don't hand a gun over to a retard.
