US firearms design after the Second World War

I never understood why the US didn't adopt the FN FAL model rifle.

They even had FN Herstel adopt the 308 calibre bullet!

Can anyone quickly and simply explain why they never adopted it?

i will die before being issued a weapon not designed in america.

Who gives a shit, we 6.8 now!

Partly this, partly everyone was already familiar with the M1 rifle and carbine, and partly because doctrine wasn't going to change overnight. Also your pic related is a massive faggot. En blocs made perfect sense at the time.

Because the FAL is dumb, looks gay, and FN is a meme company that makes meme guns. Why didn't they adopt the AR-10 is a real question, though.

Butthurt.
240b and 249 say hello. As does every good service pistol of the 20th century.

Also I forgot to mention OP is a faggot as well.

Garand was a canadian

Wasn't American, ordnance dogma were insistent on an American design regardless of how better foreign offerings were. There was a particular guy with a German name that is often specifically blamed for it, but cant remember his name.
never served then?

>every good service pistol of the 20th century
>implying the 1911 wasn't the best service pistol of the 20th century

>immigrate legally at age 11
>become the very model of a naturalized citizen
> he's totally canadian guys
Yeah, sure. Okay.

What if I told you
Canada is in North America?

I think it was even worse than an insistence on a domestic design; it had to be THEIR design from their buddies at Springfield Armory.

Magazines play a BIG role in reliability. That's why it was preferable to have an internal, no removable, strong magazine rather than an external one that would have been too heavy and expensive in order to work properly.
New manufacture techniques and materials allowed for the introduction of reliable detachable magazines.

Why is the AK on the left, it was made in 1947 and adopted in the 1950s, same time as the FAL, G3, AR-10 and M14?

Well it is still and an assault rifle (the chosen pic is also airsoft.)

Yeah ok, still 7.62, might by the manlet version of 7.62, but its still 7.62

Generally speaking x39 rifles aren't considered battle rifles. The actual Soviet battle rifle of the time would probably be the SVT 40.

SKS, question mark?

The head of the US small arms development team working with NATO was a guy named Rene Studler. It's apparently noted that he was adamant that NATO adopt the american .308 over the .280 British round that the FAL prototype was chambered in. He went as far as to promise Belgum that the US would adopt the FAL as its service rifle if they had it chambered in .308. Belgium caved because America was an economic power house coming out of the war and shit apparently doesn't stink if you cover it in enough money. While all of this was happening Studly told the Springfield arsenal to design a rifle that could be made using almost all the same tooling and equipment used to make the M1 Garand. Despite the assurances made to Belgium we adopted the M14 over the FAL and got proper fucked down the road in nam with the shitshow that was the early M16.

It all boils down to political power plays and a desk jocky who was butt hurt he didn't get to shoot some Germans.

No shit

thats a carbine, like an M1

Nope. 7.62x39 is considered an intermediate round regardless of what rifle is shooting it. Same as 5.56 or .300 blackout.

You woulda gotten fucked by the FN FAL aswell, its not youre friend in the Mud and Sand, Isrealis made some sorta cut in the bolt to help, but they rather just made a significantly better AK47 instead.

Dubious desu. Aussies didn't have issues with SLRs in Vietnam, nor did the Brits in Oman; plus its worth noting that the Israelis at that time were mostly ex-haganah, who were a ragtag force overwhelmingly used to low maintenance mausers and enfields rather than comparatively complex semis. Not saying there wouldn't have been issues, but a professional volunteer force probably would have mitigated them.

Thinking about it now, and with some of the anons here saying (and I can relate), it's probably because we won the war and became a superpower out of it. You really think we'd listen to the countries that got steamrolled by the Krauts, and were still hurting from it?

America only won the war because of it willingness to accept skilled defectors. In fact most major US successes can be traced back to our brain draining the rest of the world. To start circlejerking about US supremacy now would be missing what our supremacy is built off of.

Get out, Terr

Because king nigger of the ordnance dept. decided that the m14 was going to be the gun that won, gave the ar-10 ammo that was known to be too hot, and had a field day when the ar-10 blew out half its barrel mid testing. He had a real shitshow on his hands when the AR-15 was shoved into service and he just couldnt take that, so he didnt issue the guns properly or with the correct equipment or ammo, and when the guns failed spectacularly and got a lot of guys killed, his spergy govt armory ass got railed and made sure that the us govt didnt leave weapons procurement to that level of govt control ever again. The m14 kinda spawned the AR-15, because the AR-10 would have been adopted otherwise and the AR-15 might have never been adopted in any significant way, if it even would have been.

>i will die before being issued a weapon not designed in america.
What is the Krag-Jorgensen.
>Garand was a canadian
An immigrant coming to America as child and making it his home and contributing makes it an even More American gun.

>gave the ar-10 ammo that was known to be too hot
Alternatively it was because Armalite went full retard trying to save weight and made the barrel out of thin steel surrounded by ceramic. It's not ALL a conspiracy you know.

Sorry, my bad. Aluminum-steel composite barrel. Apparently they chose it over Stoners objections too. Blame Armalite, not the military for that one.

Take all your self hatred and use it to kill yourself, please.

Its not self hatred, its the truth. You really think we would have gotten the nuke in time without all the defected German and Jewish Manhattan scientists? You really think we dont remain world leader in so many fields by headhunting talent from the rest of the world? Get your head out of your ass, selective targeted immigration is and always was the secret to Americas success.

Truth. Roof koreans too.
