Which guns do you use for hunting?

And which ones would you like to own?

Attached: hunting.jpg (1000x1500, 302K)

Also which dog is good for hunting?

>chinkshit underlever
I had one of those B1/B2/B3 or what the fuck ever when I was like 10. They are fuggin ghey for hunting.

They're All Good Dogs Brent

bro different rifle for different animal, come on

Stag 10 in what ever upper i feel like that day.( 6.5 creed or treeOight)

I use a Sauer 90 in 6.5x55 with a Leupold 1.5-5x32 scope on top.
Perfect for durr, hog, mouflon, wild goat and whatever else you'd fancy eating.
Can be used against feral cats, raccoon too.

German wirehair as hunting doggo.

I'm a ameteur, my father didn't like to hunt while i found it fascinating, and i wanna know more about it, can you teach me where i can learn more about it?

I own a pic related and i have 13000$ to spend in a good rifle, ammo and more to get into it

you prob need a big bore gun

Well I know a t*rk who could get me a deal on a kangal for 800, but sadly no gray zone European with deals on these monsters

Get
CZ Bolt 22 w/ 2-7x scope
30-30 leverghat with Williams Fire Sights
Bergara 22-250 HMR with 4-12x FFP scope
Bergara 7mm Mag Hunter with 3-9x
Glock 20 or 21 and comfy holster
Matthews Triax
Excalibur Micro 335
Savage Inline Muzzle Loader

That’ll cover you for basically every type of hunting. Swap the 30-30 Brush gun for a 45-70 if you need straight wall cartridges or are in brown Bear country

i mostly use a .50 bmg for chipmunks

I forgot about a shotgun cuz I’m not big into bird hunting so someone else will need to chime in for that. Maybe an older Remington 1100?

Thanks user, also what do you carry to make your own food while you are hunting? Or which things do you carry? Which knife?

Attached: tenor.gif (498x267, 2.16M)

I just carry stuff like jerky, granola bars, a camelbak of water and maybe a small flask of Angel’s Envy.
I don’t bust out much more unless I plan on going over night, but at that point you are camping and that’s a whole other topic I would treat separately.
I carry a few knives.
I edc a KaBar Hunter, so that’s always on me. I use a SharpFinger for skinning.
If I’m innawoods camping, I’ll carry picrelated (UHCOM2CP) and a pistol onna belt.

I bought a Marlin 95 in .45-70 a while back. I'm hopping to get into hunting this year or the next.
What gear other would you guys recommend to start with?

I also wear one of these hats. The “blood tracker” doesn’t really work, but any led head lamp is good. It’s best to have either a very dim setting or red/blue or green light. If it’s dark, don’t forget to close your dominant eye when you have your light on.
I also keep an IFAK close.

Keep it simple my dude.
Most specialized gear is designed for hunter’s wallets, not hunting.
Where are you at? What you hunting? What’s the weather like?
Hunting is basically just taking a day hike in nature, but you pack a gun. Plan accordingly.
Address maintaining your core body temperature first and hydration second.

Quality posts.

Mid Atlantic in the Appalachians, I'll likely be hunting in WV, or western MD
I don't plan on hunting anything more the whitetail deer for now, if I like it I'll probably start hunting elk
Usually it gets fucking cold, but I have decent winter gear so that's not a problem.
I'd also like to try black powder hunting with a hawken rifle

>4 me
You basically got it figured out. Don’t over think it. They used to do it with just a pointy stick and rocks inna loincloth.
I would do Snivel gear + GPS + a close eye on the weather. If it’s cold, that’s good. I would gut and hang the deer for a few days before processing.
Git gud with the Hawken and your follow through.

Ithaca M37
Ithaca M37

For smaller game like coyotes I use a mini-14
For everything else I use a marlin 336w

I'd really like to own a lever gun in .45-70 and maybe a nice bolt action rifle in .30-06 but I dunno.

Just get an AR

>expect rabbits head to get a bullet
>it doesn't

hunting for durr in a couple weeks. can't decide on if I should take out my k31 or my buddies ar10. help me, Jow Forums

Have:
Winchester 94 in .32 win special with a tasco 4x scope side-mounted (the fuddest of the fudd)
Ithaca model 900, 2 3/4" chamber, mod choke

Want:
I'm actually happy with both of those, but if i were to replace my hunting guns it'd be, respectively:
Something bolt-action in .308 probably, with a 3-9x scope (for the sake of not paying an arm and a leg for obsolete snowflake ammo).
A pump shotty (semi-auto could be b& at any time here in leafistan) with removeable chokes, chambered for 2 3/4, 3, and 3 1/2" shells. Not remshit, having played with an m887 recently that met all that criteria but was a piece of garbage.

Contrary to popular belief, the ar10 is more ethical. Faster follow-ups, if needed, result in the animal suffering less.

Literally no contest
The one with modern hunting bullets widely available
AR10 with Barnes VortTX ammo.

You have you basics covered. Get a lever 22lr and you are set

>887
I love my 887 user. That being said, if you liked it but want a step up, get a Benelli Supernova. Probably the best modern pump hunting gun out there

Why would you use a AR when you can use a hunter rifle?

Im guessing dog would taste like shit. Dont hunt dogs

I dunno, user.... billions of zipperheads can’t be wrong....

assuming the barrel legths and twist rates are the same, a bullet will hit with the same force regardless of how the gun looks
with .223 being a solid varmint round and considering how cheap ARs are nowadays, the only reason not to get one is personal preference

As company obviously. I will never hunt somebody as loyal as a dog

I that case get a vizsla for birds. Upland game dog

How the fuck a dog hunt a birds?

I use a Benelli Ultralight 12 ga for birds with Labrador Retrievers.

You hunt the bird.
The doggos swim out and get your birds for you

They run REALLY fast and jump VERY high. Beagles and Basset hounds also use their giant, floppy ears as a means to gain extra air. Unfortunately, it has about a 75 percent death rate if the dog doesn't catch it the first time. Gone through 14 puppers doing that I did.

Vizsla is a pointing breed. Mine was taught to flush on comand. Dog finds bird, locks on point, flush comand given, i shoot bird, dog retrieves dead bird. Vizslas are not normally used in water.

1) Decide what animals you want to hunt
2) Use pic related to find the calibre.
3) Take that calibre, and go one step down. (ie, if you THINK you need a 300 win mag, use a 30-06. if you THINK you need a 30-06, get a 308)
4) Bolt actions are better then Semi's (prove me wrong Jow Forums faggots).
5) Look for manufactures that cold hammer forge their barrels, not button rifled. CHF are much more accurate.
6) Try to find bullets that have the berger classic hunter bullet in them. They have a hybrid OGIVE.
7) Use a one piece base/rings.
8) Don't skimp on glass. Go either leupold, nighforce, or swarovski. STAY AWAY FROM VORTEX...Thats chnk shit.
9) Use a scope level.
10) Get out of the truck and walk.

This for birds

Attached: IMG_0028.jpg (4032x3024, 2.53M)

Just skip that chart entirely, it's garbage.
.243 and .270 will reliably kill everything listed. Even the two classic moose calibers of .303 and 6.5x55 will kill everything on the list. They're not even listed but are both under the 308 in terms of power so according to the chart are not suitable for large animals.

throw them very high into the air
this works too

Attached: image002-1.jpg (640x480, 85K)

Ohh boy. I bet you're one of those homo's that says "all you need is an AR15 and shot placement".

Well no shit. Does it work? yes. is it ethical if you miss? no.

then dont miss dumbass

Ok there quigley. I'll take your sage advice and use nothing more then a .22 from now on from a thousand yards.

Troll post.

Get one or two seasons in with a rifle in before you go the primitive route.

t. bowhunter

This is complicated as fuck man.
Unless you are a long range Hunter taking shots at +300 yards, just go with what you can afford in whatever hunting caliber is most well stocked at your local mom and pops sporting good store. If you are a long range hunter, you are not coming to a n00b thread on 4chin for guidance. If you are a noob, you have no business taking shots on game like that.
You don’t need a match grade gun for hunting. You need one you can afford to practice with, carry comfortably, shoot without flinching and not be afraid to scratch and ding.
Anything holding 2MOA is more than accurate enough for someone starting out.
Learn what Point Blank Zero means.
I began with an iron sight Marlin 30-30, and it will drop deer dead right there out to 125 yards with LeverEvolution ammo. Just aim above their armpit 1/3 of the way up their body and pull the trigger.
I almost always recommend.243 or 7mm-08 to new deer hunters and 270 to new elk hunters.
I do agree with Barnes hunting bullets. They are the best in my opinion, with Barnes TSX not far behind.
Barnes VOR-TX is probably the best off the shelf hunting ammo out there, but any soft point ammo can do the job.

I wouldn't worry too much about which guns until you have more experience in what you want. I'd encourage you to hold onto to your money until then.
You could probably get by with a savage in 308+Leupold 3-9× which is cheap but good glass with a lifetime warranty (helps with shooting in lowlight). As for a shotgun, a mossberg 500 with a hunting length barrel will do fine. Depending on the type of hunting you do, (I'm not familiar with your area), it's worth getting wind shear+water proof light, medium, and heavy clothing which will be more expensive than your firearm in this case. Clothing that's advertised against ripping works well too. You don't have to have matching camo btw, it's only there to break up your outline.
Watch plenty of hunting videos on YouTube and take note of the gear they use and how they hunt. Where I was recently, it was fairly open with steep mountains but tall brush so I made use of a tripod I carry primarily for a spotting scope and a quick change rifle locking device to put my rifle in and get above the grass line. I took this bull at 460 yards using it.

>243 is a short range cartridge
>Avoid Button Rifles.. Ergo Savage is no good
>Vortex is not suitable for hunting
>Hunters need a scope level
>No 6.5mm’s
>300MW is smallest acceptable for moose
>45-70 is a one trick pony for black bear
Lad......

Why does he have an airgun?

they're ghey for hunting until you do the polish trick until you put 3 fucking springs in it
it can literally penetrate metal in that state, especially the .22 version
not to mention i kinda like the underlevers because they remind me of SKS'

Dogs are normally only used for bird

If you have this gun make sure you hold the lever down as you load the pellet in. People have lost tips of fingers to this fucking thing.

I use a NEF single shot .410 for everything.
1/2 oz #6 or #5 shot for squirrel and rabbit and some winchesters super X 1/5 oz slugs for durr.

Winchester Model 70 .308

Yea I know I'm a Fudd, what of it

or, you know, he could buy a fucking shotgun and literally hunt anything and cover everything else on your list except for a long range rifle which may be unnecessary depending on where he lives lol

Dogs can be used for anything, rabbits, small predators like foxes, moose, pigs even bears. Depends on the dog
So really it depends on what you want to hunt

Tikka T3x Lite
Vortex Crossfire II in your preferred magnification range.

The wicked dope power of the dark carnival

The two best choices are the new model 70 or the tikka t3. I honestly dont know what glass is best everyone likes vortex but I think their shits kinda iffy.

SKS

Truth be told I never met a juggalo i didnt like

Vortex, even in their cheaper scopes, are pretty damn good. I have a PST Gen II on my Tikka and the tracking is spot on. I have a couple of Crossfires that have held up on everything from my 10/22 to my Mossberg 930 throwing slugs. That mossberg chewed up one Bushnell and a prostaff P3 shotgun scope as well. I have a strike eagle 1-6 on one of my ARs that I have to say is probably my least favorite out of my Vortexes, the edges get a little distorted at 6x, but it's mostly used at 1x for 3-gun and I use the magnification for a dozen or so shots at most.
Other than vortex in the bang-for-buck category, Primary Arms makes some okay stuff too. I have their 4-14 FFP that's served me pretty well on my Mossberg Patriot 308.

Tbh, I think Leupold is the king of reliable budget tier bright glass which lowlight hours is probably all you're buying an optic for hunting big game inside of 300 yards.

I have a pimpin, pimpin vortex rangefinder. I need to reup my scope though as the antiglare coating is starting to go on my setup.

Pure durability is what I want in a rifle scope. Which brand do you think has the best reputation in that regard?

US Optics but they're heavy.
SWFA fixed powers if you're poor

I have 3 Vortex’s,
A Viper onna 6.5CM
Crossfire 2 on 308
Crossfire 2 on 22
And I have given 1 as a gift to my Uncle and he loves it on his 6mmMag
In fact, he just about fucking twisted a running coyotes head off at about 90yards with it this weekend.
