That's just silly. Almost every single harem insert is a highschool aged guy with average looks, and average intelligence who does very poorly socially. Tatami is an extremely lazy but mildly successful married middle aged military man who somehow passed SF selections and gets along pretty well with just about everybody he meets. He might be a fairly bland character insert but acting like that's a typical character insert for the genre indicates you haven't watched much of it at all.

GATE is not one of the animes in a DnD universe setting. Something like Konosuba would be. Goblin Slayer definitely is, with the supreme god as the DM. They even say the various gods roll dice to determine fates.

Yeah the CGI can be a bit clunky. But at least it's not as bad as the SPLAT scene from Overlord. Fuck that was a disappointment. I'm enjoying Goblin Slayer so far, I don't let the visuals get to me. And the fight scenes don't have to be super smooth, it's not like Goblin Slayer is a master swordsman, he's just a dude who is super on the spectrum about killing goblins.

It's not even that edgy and the animation for Ajin is fine. RWBY is just absolute trash in general. Youjo Senki is another anime I'd recommend to Jow Forums. Premise is a meme, but it's all internally consistent, even if the anime adaptation makes the MC look edgier than they are in the LN.

Didn't like macross plus as much - while better than most macross series it still felt they just used the transformation feature to do all kinds of crazy shit that just isn't possible. I'm all for robots kicking each other and stuff but when you ram two airplanes together they probably aren't going to fly again. Yukikaze felt like the best balance between pushing what is possible while still being grounded in that hard scifi realm. Didn't know there was a book though will deff be picking that up
