its huge and almost always empty

I used to have to drive 45 minutes to what was basically a farmers field with a berm at 200, and a couple tipped over spools as benches.

Now the nearest range is about 25-30 minutes away, but it's an actual range. 25, 50, 100, 200, 300 yard berms. 6 concrete shooting benches under an overhang, and it's free. No ROs either. Just show up and shoot. Worth the drive 100%. I always go on a weekday around noon or 1pm and it's empty.

I use to drive 40-60 minutes, depending on traffic, to go to the range. I went at least twice a month.

Now that I've moved I joined a gun club that is only 10 minutes from me, I hardly go. I don't really even have an excuse, since one of the ranges they have is even open 24/7.

Yeah, for me its maybe 5-10 minutes getting onto the highway and out of the city, then 20 miles at 85mph, then a couple miles of country roads to get to the range.

Why? Im pretty jelly honestly. I'd love there to be somewhere closer to shoot, and it would be cool to shoot at night and test out my commie night vision scope.

My home town has mostly indoor pistol ranges, with the only rifle ranges being 2 rather exclusive, members-only clubs with long waiting lists.

Most long ranges, as in 600 yards plus, just require you give them a target proving you shoot minute of angle and they're very pro 2a. Shooting in automatic, they'd only care if you're throwing rounds out over the berms.

I drive 1.5 hours to my nearest outdoor range and I do it monthly. I shoot 1-1.5 moa on average. My wife and I work as a crew she spots and calls shots while I shoot. Together we have shot moa at 800 yards with .308 and 30-06. She can out shoot me without glasses and with a pistol but she shoots 4 moa past 50 yards for some reason. Thanks for reading. I'm not commenting about time between home and range (as it seems average) but for whatever fucking reason, despite Washington being a fairly big hunting state... It's shocking to me that there's only one fully public range within reasonable distance. Otherwise I gotta go up to Green Water. There is a gun club near here that, until recently, prohibited loading more than 5 rounds into any gun, except revolvers. I can't remember what it is now but I want to say they'll let you load 7 because 1911.

Have your rifle action open or in the back rack when a ceasefire is called for someone to put up or take down a target or another reason. No rapid fire (AKA don't call of duter your trigger) and no mags over thirty for center fire, or rounds over .460

There's a range nearby that has some fuddy rules for one of its ranges, only 1 round can be loaded at a time on the 200y. But at their indoor range they'll let you shoot anything that won't damage the backstop.
