I prefer side by sides because I like the operation and aesthetics of exposed hammer guns. Their old west roots also kind of draw me to them.

That being said, over unders are pretty neat too, and overall are probably better shooting guns. Having shot both in terms of shootability I don't really prefer one to the other.

An over and under shotgun works like a Derringer. Each pull of the trigger switches the barrel you cant really fit two triggers on there.

Get both honestly. You can use an over under when you want to be a gentleman and the side-by-side when you want to be a cowboy. They're both just so beautiful.

The advantage of SxS is faster reloading because the action required a smaller angle to open. This is a little obsolete in the modern age since semis with tube magazines are thing. But back in the day when you were in chest high grass in Africa wearing your pith helmet, having a smaller angle of opening on your double barreled shot gun or double rifle was an advantage.

Not that other guy but I can confirm on inhertiting 16gauges.
Saved one from my grandpaps basement that no one had a clue how it got there. Everyone else basically said it was a wall hanger but I've fixed it up the best I can so far. Bird shot is fine with it but its fixed a full choke which rules slugs out.
