COVERS

No uniform is complete without one.

Military covers. All kinds of military hats and hat discussion. Designs, patterns, similarities and differences, whatever it is as long as it's about military hats it's cool. Helmet discussion tolerated but not encouraged.

Starting off, pic related is the USN's combo cover in white with "scrambled eggs" on the brim, denoting the rank of O-5 (in this case an O-6 RDML with max scrambled eggs) and above. The combo cover is a peaked cap, originally worn because it was lighter and less cumbersome than other hats or covers even in the civilian masses. The style was very popular in Europe with the working class during the 19th century and the US Army adopted it during the Mexican-American war. After that the peaked cap's popularity in the US military grew.

Like most military covers, HELMETS replaced them in combat. But many militaries still utilize the peaked cap in dress uniforms like in the related pic and it is used by civilian agencies like law enforcement, airport security, and the secret service.

One more from OP, the garrison cap. It is worn by military members when on base during peacetime. Commonly called the "piss cutter" by oldschool types. It is extremely simple and various parts of the military have little variations on how it should be worn. Most of the aviators pictured here have a dip in the rear part of the cover, originally called a "combat crush" because one would wear that dip into the cover by wearing the headset over it. The headset was by all accounts highly uncomfortable and the cover would provide some cushion.

Today in the Air Force today the dip/crush means you have broken the speed of sound, but in the Navy it simply denotes a naval aviator or naval aviator in training.

>black with a skull is peak aesthetics
Don't you have some homework to do after high school? And by homework I don't mean stealing grandpa's hunting shotgun and your stepdad's Glock.
SS caps aren't the best headwear by a mile, they're not even the best German headwear, keep your hat for your deviantart sonic the hedgehog fanart to make room for peak g*rman aesthetics.

are we the baddies

Yes they are.
They are the most iconic, respected (feared), and rare in the world.
Sorry if youre one of those buttmad "muh optics" kind, but to deny the SS cover isnt one of the top 3 or 5 most aesthetic covers in all of history is just retarded.
>perfect Aryan skull shape?

Any headgear worn by guys doing SS stuff would be feared, they'd have been feared the exact same way if they wore Borat's swimsuit and had little cocks drawn on their cheeks. In fact, it might have been MORE traumatising...
Anyways, from an objective point of view, SS-Allgemeine kit looks tacky as fuck, just push it a little bit more and it's Bollywood tier.
I mean, just bring out a Waffen-SS feldgrau piece of headgear and it looks decent to good, it's the black+skulls+leather combo that overdoes it. It's no wonder that the aesthetics have been hijacked by the hard gay movement later on.

>i have shit taste and anything that doesnt look like shit is gay
>gays love Third Reich stuff that they would have gotten machinegunned by the people wearing it
Go eat your borsch you commie cocksuck.
Youre little fur cossack hats are gay and look like a racoon trying to fuck your ear, which would probably get you excited.
And Im not referring to that M43.

Stand aside, big dicks coming through.

>no protection from the elements
>flies off in the wind
The only good thing about the side cap is it can be folded in the belt when not worn, otherwise they're shit.

>talk about the M43 Feldmütze
>get called a commie
... what?
Plus, the best looking 20th century uniforms are the British, Italian and Japanese ones up to WW2, and the East German ones after that. Cold War Soviet and US officer uniforms are nice as well.

Best there is.

>Soviet
>nice
Soviet/Russian stuff is always either a shapeless blob of mud-coloured burlap or some over-the-top tacky circus ringmaster shit with lots of bright colors and fake gold.

Please. You khaki and grey blobs have no idea what aesthetics are. Much less what is at the peak.
