And yet every discussion about dogfight history always preaches the importance of energy management and conservation. Keeping your airspeed up is the #1 historical rule of dogfighting. The Cobra maneuvers bring the aircraft to nearly zero airspeed. It makes you a sitting duck for an enemy to blast out of the skies. Supercruise, the ability to be supersonic yet not have the huge infrared signature of afterburners is far more useful in combat.
