Is /akg/ a cesspool of closeminded clone autists who don't like anything that isn't based off of a "real" factory or issued gun? Are you guys a bunch of spergs that think that the only rifles that look cool are ones that you've seen in the movies or in gun encyclopedia books? Or do you guys have imaginations?

I'm wanting probably going to base things off of a romo kit, US made receiver, leaning towards a Jmac GBC-13 combo gas block from sight base, russian wood stock set, and then some reasonable barrel that works with it all.

I've got a friend who is a very very solid AK builder and I'll get the whole thing refinished and blued so it would look pretty fresh.

Eh. If ammo availability were better maybe. Plus the parts kits themselves are more expensive, and ammo is a bit more expensive as well. Leaning towards 7.62x39.

Eh, speaking from myself I personally prefer factory built/clone rifles but I do appreciate an updated or modern variant, provided it's been well thought out and isn't basically an AKM with some shit thrown on to make it more front heavy, which is often the case, and I speak from experience on this when I started to try to modernize a WASR I had with longer handguard, M4 stock etc. The thing weighed a ton and wasn't really better than the bone stock rifle. I believe the biggest issues with any AK rifle are optic and mount solutions that aren't junk.

I dont think this is bad, but is basically a WASR chopped with a fs/GB combo. Which there isn't anything wrong with. But when a WASR is 500-700 on the used market like new, and you don't have to worry about the heat treating on the receiver, etc, why even build, just buy WASR, stamp and chop.

It is basically just a WASR chopped to 104 length with a combo block, but if I had it built by my bud I could use a nicer barrel and nicer furniture and stuff like that.
Why polish barrel over a romanian? CHF CL a must either way. All of those in 7.62x39 flavor should have right gas block journal diam and are 90 degree gas to work with JMAC?

Finally bought a 5.45 VEPR and it's my first AK. Considering going to a gun smith to do the bullet guide and mag catch filing out of paranoia. But how hard is it to fuck up? I have a drill, dremel, ect but don't want to risk fucking up the rifle. Dremel is for muzzle thread cap that is spot welded.
