Firearm Licences in Australia

in reference to the P650 Declaration form when applying for a licence, can police access any of your medical history? and if so, what can they access?

should've said i am talking about NSW in particular

I'd consider moving to Australia if your gun laws weren't shit and your government didn't try so hard to ban porn.

instead of getting a license, get a passport instead and leave that shithole.

Nsw is cucked af

>never forget that 6 million died at Port Arthur

I'd hazard a guess and say yes since as part of the declaration in section C you agree to them making enquiries. This obviously lets them check your criminal record stuff but probably lets them see you weren't diagnosed as a mental patient for part i of personal history.

what if i was treated for anxiety a few years ago?

Part F asks about treatment in the past 12 months so you might be alright.

>myhealth record exists

Lol

the thing i am worried about is that a few years ago, during a rough time i told a doctor that i "self harmed" so i could get easier access to anti depressants. it wasn't true and it was a stupid idea to lie like that about something so serious. i was just a stupid kid and i'm worried if they could get this information. i don't want to permanently never be allowed to get a gun or to get flagged down for lying on government forms. hunting is a big thing for some of my relatives and i wish to join them in their hobby to get closer to them

isn't there a couple more weeks to opt out?

Might be shit outta luck then. That said, in the FAQs there is precedent that if you do answer yes to a question and wish to shoot then the club can send a copy to the registry for further assessment. If you get a report from your doc saying you are okay now you could attach that with it. My friend was diagnosed with depression a few years ago and he went through that process and it turned out fine with the doctors note.

thanks for your help user i'll see what i can do. i'm just really worried because my dad and uncle both know i have applied for the forms to come (haven't signed them yet) and they don't know about the whole depression/anxiety thing and i think i have gotten their hopes up. i just can't bring myself to explain it to them because it would sound like i am fucked up. i guess your past can always catch up to you

This appears to be the case in Queensland at least. If you've undergone treatment for "Psychiatric or emotional problems" you're required to disclose it on your application, however if you can find a quack to sign you off saying you're fine now, you should be in the clear. Maybe do some digging for a Jow Forums friendly doc though. The AMA is not your friend.

i'm the same NSW bro from above. would it be fine if i were to go to a different doctor than the one that i have been diagnosed with

Just going to depend on the Doc mate. Any one that you go to is obviously going to look at your record and go through an assessment of where you're at now. If the one who diagnosed you is your family doctor, and you know him fairly well, that might help your chances, if not you might just have to take your chances with someone else.

the one that diagnosed me was one that i went to a couple times, not my family doctor. i would prefer to go to the family doctor rather than that one tho

Family doctor is definitely your best bet then. Someone who knows you and your family is more likely to give you a fair shake.

>get a passport instead and leave that shithole.
The hard part is getting permanent residence in a more suitable country

are you white? if so, try the US or Canada... it's not fucking hard. if you're not, stay where you are.

They extended another 6 months to a year

Opt out if you haven't already

Getting residence in Canada is a joke
That being said we're poor as fuck.

I had a voluntary visit or 10 (mental health care plan) to a shrink for minor depression. All this caused by the daily grind and essentially having zero fun for 2 years+. I ticked "yes" on mental history to declare (on my renewal).

Just visited the same GP who sent me on the MH care plan. He wrote a note stating that the sunny outdoors having fun (weekend shooting) was exactly what I needed. I then stapled his note to my Licence renewal in his surgery, and walked 2 blocks to the copshop to hand it in.

No fucks given, by all parties involved. Shit was cash.

And this is one of the many reasons to opt-out of the MyHealthRecords database.

Good point. Am this fag . Whilst I said nobody gave a fuck, that could change in a heartbeat, and databases never forget.

I will never disclose mental illness to a doctor even if im tripping balls, they really do use it against you for all sorts of shit

Are you american or canadian?
Where would you recommend in either country?
What's Alaska like? I like the cold.
Also I'm white Australian
