What will EMPs actually disable?

It seems like it's been established that EMPs will do basically nothing to modern vehicles, but what about electronics used in small equipment and other /K equipment? Radios, night vision gear, range finders, etc. I've always wondered what would happen to a red dot, I'm considering buying some night vision binocs and am curious if they need to be stored in a special container.
Inb4 nuke larping when I really just want to learn something

Nothing.
You need a large antenna to get any kind of effect.

a prod should do the trick

If we're talking high-altitude nuclear EMP, fuck up the domestic power grid as every transmission line in the country decides to do the Resonance Conga. I'm not sure what safeguards they have against this.

Emps need to be very close to the electronics to have an effect. Unless it's nuclear I wouldn't worry about it

>emps don't effect cars

Night vision googles deserve to be kept in a special box

This. There's many a greentext floating around about how horribly not hardened the US electrical grid is against any sort of malicious action.

Why don't you educate me instead of memeing on me :(

Modern cars since the 1990's have had tons of complex electronics inserted into them. The big one being the Engine Control Unit (ECU). An EMP would easily disable something like this and your car would never start again.

US infrastructure in general is horribly maintained.

Won't know until the specs of this are released in some form
The Counter-electronics High Power Microwave Advanced Missile Project (CHAMP) is a joint concept technology demonstration led by the Air Force Research Laboratory, Directed Energy Directorate at Kirtland Air Force Base to develop an air-launched directed-energy weapon capable of incapacitating or damaging electronic systems[1] by means of an EMP

It'd sure be nice if we could get an infrastructure spending bill passed. But nope, Rs gotta feed the military industrial complex all our money and the Ds gotta feed poor brown people at home and abroad all out money while our country literally crumbles around us

Automobiles were subjected to EMP environments under both engine turned off and engine turned on conditions. No effects were subsequently observed in those automobiles that were not turned on during EMP exposure. The most serious effect observed on running automobiles was that the motors in three cars stopped at field strengths of approximately 30 kV/m or above. In an actual EMP exposure, these vehicles would glide to a stop and require the driver to restart them. Electronics in the dashboard of one automobile were damaged and required repair. Other effects were relatively . Twenty-five automobiles exhibited malfunctions that could be considered only a nuisance (e.g., blinking dashboard lights) and did not require driver intervention to correct. Eight of the 37 cars tested did not exhibit any anomalous response.

Your car will be fine. The thing that EMP will really fuck up is power lines, the effect of it is multiplied by conductor length.

user, in a race war, do you really want to give the nogs a well-maintained path to your door?

>An EMP would easily disable something like this and your car would never start again.
Absolutely not. Become one with your car's exhaust faggote

This.
The grid is the issue.

The Grid....it's been so long..

Ide rather have a GEP gun to be honest.

>yes it would
>no it wouldn't
>ur a fagit
>no ur a fagit

Shut up faggot

*cough*

Why don't you educate yourself, nobrainz

For the record the CIA has had an EMP cannon that will knock an aircraft out of the sky for over a decade, it works best on low flying choppers and small aircraft. Check the past two years that various PPL connected to Pedo-rings have died in air crashes, PPL that had shit on Obama, Trump family members all had shit go down w/bad aircraft

No aircraft built in the last century would crash from an EMP. While avionics might take damages, the most it will cause is a single misfire in piston engines, and potentially a temporary shut down of turbine engines (though that is very unlikely, since the pulse is not very long and the engine must spin down to stop running).

Dead
>complex circuitry
>most computers
>gps
>electronic coms
>the fucking power grid
>garage door openers
Survive
>almost anything in a metal warehouse
>most modern and old school cars would be safe depending on make and construction. (Faraday cage effect)
>simple electronics
>anything shielded in either a natural/manmade/circumstantial faraday cage

The latest microwave EMP weapon CHAMP will supposedly fry all circuits in a given area

Nigs can't fight for shit. Let them come.

>be nuisance garbage human
>go around fucking up infrastructure
>get caught

Well, the magnetic shockwave will fry circuits. So anything that uses it will go down.

Not sure if cars really needs the ecu to work properly (it may even work but with less power and withotu ABS-EBD) but anything that uses those will go down.

lol

Retarded statements deserve retarded answers

A: No
B: No

Satellites and the space station would be fried from radiation bouncing around the atmosphere for years, assuming the large scale space based EMP. We accidentally figured that out when we nuked low orbit-high atmosphere space the first time.

Space travel itself and replacement satellites would also be inadvisable for a while.
