You're leader of a modern Platoon of a country of your choosing...

You're leader of a modern Platoon of a country of your choosing. You're to survive in Acheron (LV-426) for one week with the rest of your team with currently existing arms tech, that means no pulse rifles. What would be your strategy and gear of choosing to survive the xenomorphs in this obscure planet?

nuke it from orbit

nuke it from orbit (technically still in the system)

We'll have to prepare for close encounters.

Russians and a whole lotta vodka. Whatever the drunks don't get to is made into molotovs. The facehuggers won't infect the vatniks because of inferior genetics and a BAC they can't survive in.

Sentry Guns, barricades, ammo conversation, welding key doors, mining sewers, shutting out non essential ventilation systems etc etc.

Drop atomic weapons from space

Fuck the xenomorphs to death or die trying

Well nuke from orbit seems like the best option but also somewhat cheating/impossible depending on the scenario
So I'd say Nazi Germany and a load of MG-42's, V2 Rockets, Panzers, and Flammenwerfers. For a bonus, albeit a bit outdated for the time period and slow rate of fire, but a tankgehwer 1918 would rip through even the biggest xeno fuckers

f2pbp'sts

2-3 Strykers
Just drive away from the Alien nest lmao

I'd like a pulse rifle please.

There is a surprising lack of pillaging and burning in this thread.

Kinda disappointing.

In all seriousness, though. Why not have bullets filled with baking soda or something? Their blood is highly acidic, isn't it?

> armoured infantry platoon
> drive to other side of planet
> find big cave
> drive into cave
> block cave entrance with IFVs
> crack out the tinnies
> play cards and wank in portaloos for a week until pickup arrives or we get magically teleported home
> ?????
> profit

Simple.

A bunch of Davey Crocket nuke launchers and as many warheads as we possibly can carry will do all we need to do.

>You're to survive in Acheron (LV-426) for one week with the rest of your team with currently existing arms tech, that means no pulse rifles.

Hold up

LV-426 is roughly the size of Mars, has sub-zero temperatures, cat-4 hurricane storms constantly, and a day/night cycle on only about 4 hours. Additionally, most of it is either frozen mountain ranges or lava flows from active volcanos, and the entire thing is essentially sterile and primordial.

I have a millionth in one chance of running into xenomorphs but my soldiers are gonna freeze or die of dehydration, and that is if the terraforming hasn't reversed yet.

this but unironically

Nazis vs Aliens.

I wasn't being ironic user. Give me sweet xeno pucci or give me death.

They can use their acid to melt shit dumbass, they might be animals but they aren't stupid

Now that I think about it, OP never said one week earth time.
28 hours is livable if you bring a lot of cold-weather gear.

Myself in a single hot air balloon.

Get fucked xenos you cant touch me from space.

It's the only way to be sure

"Acheron has no indigenous life forms, and it is not the Xenomorph homeworld; it was simply a desolate rock upon which an Engineer ship, containing Xenomorph Eggs and possibly live subjects as well, crash-landed".

The whole planet may have a few thousand xeno at most. I should be very unlucky to end in the area that is infested by them.

However I want to obey the rules of your game.
I choose to be escorted by a team of 15 men of a Special Force team that moves in Osprey.
We move for 1500km away from the space ship of the engineers, and from any building in a place that is easy to land.

The capacity of the Osprey is for 20 people, the volume that I purposely left is food, generators, movement revelators.

We spend an entire week in this nothingness waiting for the evac, xenomorphs don't even know that we are in the planet, and if they know they lose us due to the big distance we have put between us and them.

Battle rifles and bull pup .50’s for the infantry.
M2 Browning’s on all the vehicles.
Like the user before said. Land as far away from Hadley’s hope as possible and hold out for as long a possible.

Your Osprey crashes in the hurricane that is the normal weather. You either burn to death in a twisted mass of metal or die of your wounds from the crash. If some of you survive the xenos will e-z get your leftover cuckforce.

You lose.

3 strykers. 2 loaded with fireteams and one loaded with supplies and ammo. 2 five ton trucks loaded with barbed wire, claymores and sandbags. Drive around till I find some sort of cave system with one entrance and fortify the fuck out of it. Then pray and hope we live. It would be easier to survive on the colony with manmade structures than this.

What a stupid fucking thread

Watch out boys the fun police is here

> they can use their acid to melt shit

And how does that make any difference when im in a cave several hundred miles away?

>History channel wishes to know your location

If I can't nuke from space, I'll go setup a camp out in the wastes somewhere. The Aliens are mostly confined and generally, do not like the outdoors on that planet. Should they try to attack, I have the advantage in a wide open area, not them. M240s and FLIR optics (they do show up on thermals, they just look kind of weird. I played Concrete Jungle). No ventilation ducts and a single building with wide viewports. No areas for them to hide. My guys would use stainless steal armor and teflon clothing, both are resistant to their blood. Chainmail underneath.

They aren't hard to kill if you're prepared and not fighting them somewhere they have a clear advantage.

Platoon and a week is not adequate. Company enforced with sappers can clean LV-426, no problemo.

My strategy, like that of any platoon leader worth the slightest half of a shit, would be to defer to the experience of my platoon sergeant. Anyone who says anything otherwise isn't qualified to post in this thread.

>they all proceed to friendly fire eachother and the medics either don't know baymed or get banned for being somewhat competent

Look at me. I am the platoon Sgt now.

Serbian kebab removers complete with one man who can play the accordian. The plan is to get drunk, hole up in a cave and defend it with suppressing fire while singing really bad patriotic serbian songs. The plan hinges on somehow convincing my serbian troops that the Xenomorphs are Turkish.

>take group of marines starved of masturbation, pussy and crayons for a week
>tell them to fuck off on leave for a week
>space police come find us within 3 hours to report multiple DUIs, sexual assault charges, and disorderly conduct under the influence of alcohol
>get lift off planet by space police

>take women's only unit
>upper brass sends waves upon waves of reinforcements, and picks us up early
>news article reports first women's unit survives for a month and did it all themselves

Wouldn't be hard, they look similar after all

Radars, small nukes and some kind of vehicle that would be able to ride on the surface. The platoon would be driving around on the planet in vehicles with Vulcan miniguns attached to them, deploying radars and nukes around the planet for tactical purposes, then drive atleast far enough from one of the nukes and detonate it. It would be a big enough explosion to get any Xenomoprh's attention and it would go there or it would try to go away from there. Since the platoon is not in the blast radius, it would not get effected they could then transport to a place with the least amount of Xenomoprhs/activity and stay there. If the Xenomoprhs run from the explosion, there'll be another nuke waiting for them. If they get to our position then we'll get away as fast as possible and detonate any nukes behind us right when we get from the blast radius to do as much damage as possible to the ones that could be following them, all the while gunning them down with the miniguns, uranium bullets of course for max damage.

I'm not 100% sure it's acidic but it is corrosive. Don't forget that even bases can be corrosive.

>that moment when the last admin logs off and all the competent medics reveal to each other they "acquired" surgical equipment
It really is magical.

>implying that you won’t get fucked by a skittering vagina-spider before you even see a drone

I thought they specifically said it was a molecular acid, or something like that.

I've often thought of how many MORE Aliens Gorman's platoon needed to kill in the movie. There can't be more Aliens than hosts right? If Hadley's Hope had a population of 158, than the max is 158 aliens. However, a number of these colonists probably died fighting, so probably no more than 120 aliens?

Strategy would be simple, use APCs with decent weapons and optics (LAV-25) and circle the wagons, baiting the xenomorphs into attacking to deplete their numbers. LAVs would be ready to roll if it looked like we were going to be overrun. Just rinse and repeat killing all of them.

With what optics? Xenos don’t show up on thermals

Mostly for seeing through outdoor conditions.
Night vision and thermals can see in the dark (obviously) and punch through some atmospheric phenomenon like light fog/cloud. There no possible way a xeno would not be visible through thermals outdoors, because the ground itself would be emitting thermal IR so if they didn't emit any thermal IR they would show up as cold vs. the ground. If they perfectly matched it, than you would still see their movement silhouetted against the horizon/ground contrast.

Assuming "nuke it from orbit" isn't an option, and assuming we can push "currently existing" to include prototypes and one offs, we'll have to go with an old hard scifi standby.

Powered armor, 7.62 real fucking NATO rifles, and incendiary ammunition.
