I got the PRO version which has a better Y axis setup (wider extrusion) and a few small tweaks. I'd say it's worth the bump in price.
Pic related was done with the thing of white filament it ships with for testing (again, draft settings).
You'll want to pick up some locknuts and better springs for the bed, though.

I'm pleased with it. You really need to make sure you assemble everything properly, but it's a hell of a lot less intimidating than CNC milling/turning.
This pic was from another guy on here. He said it didn't need any clean-up on the inside for it to function, which is pretty nice.
Looks a hell of a lot better than that 80% one guy finished by hand with a dremel, that's for sure, and even THAT thing still functioned.

I'm not super knowledgeable about box/surface modeling, but you can most def make functional parts as long as you keep in mind the capabilities of the machine/material.
If you didn't flunk shop class, you'll be fine.
