I imagined this as a weapon used only during emergencies (ex. space pirate attacks), meant for cargo ship personnel with little or no weapons training. For that reason, various parts are color-coded in order to make it as idiot-proof as possible. The controls directly related to firing (trigger, safety, charging handle, and dust cover) are red, the secondary controls (magazine catch and bolt catch) are blue, the stuff that gets hot (barrel, bolt group, and gas block) are in orange, and the parts used for disassembly (takedown pins, trigger pins, and barrel nut) are green. The contact points (buttstock, pistol grip, and hand stop) are grey, and the major parts are painted white because space.

Parts database is weak in places, but I can get pretty close. Also buying all these parts from brownells bumps up the build cost more than 50%.

I've already done it, and I know what it costs. I was comparing my real cost with what their calculator said, and their was 50% higher, even though my actual build has a more expensive captive buffer system and trigger.

the handguard is literally the cheapest part of that gun, you can get them with a barrel nut for 20 dollars.
