It looks aesthetic. But is it good (in terms of balancing protection, comfort, and maneuverability)? Why was it replaced (I understand that it became obsolete but what were the flaws with the RBA that its successors improved upon)? Is it worth looking into to buy?

What copypasta?
Also, 80s/90s Army Ranger aesthetics thread I guess...
Buy what you like. Its just a soft vest with a plate sleeve, no modern provisions for load carriage or quick doffing. In spite of the shitposters, wearing webbing over a plate vest is annoying as hell. If you actually want something functional, buy something new, at least then the velcro wont be fucked and you'll know the nylon liner hasn't degraded.
>Buy what you like.
Well I mean, it's an investment, so I'm just curious whether or not I'll get my money's worth out of it.
Also, here's a training video made by the Rangers some point prior to 2001 and an old group of gook airsofters that did a half-decent job with the impression.
Had this thread not even a week ago.
Then dont come here. Theres 20+ other threads for you to bounce around in
Good thread.
Have a bump.
>same exact pasta
stop trying to force your shitty meme
this
It was an attempt to marry soft PASGT with the plate carrier and did neither especially well.
fuck off
CHUCK!
One year I had to go to summer school, and the summer school teacher was a Ranger during Panama, and I was only 12 or 13 but he told us stories after we watched, I think it was Gettysburg, the like 4hr Civil War movie?
Anyway, the dude was hysterical and the stories were amazing. He was definitely fucked up from it in hindsight.
Got any good ones in particular?
cool
What beret flashes are those?
>Anyway, the dude was hysterical and the stories were amazing.
You better tell us some right now. Was he just in Panama or did spend time in the sand in Iraq and Somalia too.
>He was definitely fucked up from it in hindsight.
Sounds about right.
>back in a time when iron-sighted M14s roamed the Earth
What's that black plastic they're wearing on their helmets?
mounts for Night vision goggles, flip down binoculars, etc etc,
>a mount
No mean it's wrapped around their helmets in green
Not really. The plate at the front of the helmet is a plate that night vision would hook into, but all the black plastic is MILES gear. Army laser tag for training exercises.
>Ranger Body
Typically about 5'7 145 lbs. Manlets can run like the wind though. Quick Ranger story. One mustang LT I know was a medic in the 75th. He is a little bit above average in size. He claims during training all the rangers were so little he would scope up two of them at a time like he was carrying small children. Everyone thought it was funny when he did it.
kek
RBAs were terribly uncomfortable to the point where some rangers opted not to wear the rear plate for comfort reasons
This got someone killed during Operation Gothic Serpent which is recounted in Black Hawk Down
MILES. It's pretty much laser tag with blank firing guns
RBA didn't have a back plate pocket during Gothic Serpent.
>He claims during training all the rangers were so little he would scope up two of them at a time like he was carrying small children. Everyone thought it was funny when he did it.
wut
Aesthetic image
Damn, dude looked he murdered people with claw hammers.
>But is it good (in terms of balancing protection, comfort, and maneuverability)?
Protection is would you'd expect, comfort is minimal, and maneuverability is like PASGT, just heavier.
>Why was it replaced (I understand that it became obsolete but what were the flaws with the RBA that its successors improved upon)?
That's akin to asking why Doron plate was replaced. Something doesn't have to contain flaws to be replaced; lighter and stronger ballistic mediums were developed, lighter and move flexible armor carriers produced, and policy changes. RBA was unit issued, not apart of TA-50, so vests would see use throughout a company or even the regiment, it was issued based on perceived threats a company would face. Of course, policy changed in 2000 with the adoption of IBA
>Is it worth looking into to buy?
Only if it's something you're really after and are willing to pay for it. At this point RBA is a collector's piece, but if you're willing to dole out the cash, it "could" be a viable vest, but that's a risk you have to determine if you'd be willing to take. I'd get any accompanying plates x-ray'd and the soft armor should be fine. NIJ did a study a few years back on expired/past date armor and so long as it hadn't gotten wet and improperly dried or permeated by a petroleum-based chemical it stopped all rated threats.
that poor lad in the back lugging the pig
At least he gets to shoot it
>He claims during training all the rangers were so little he would scope up two of them at a time like he was carrying small children. Everyone thought it was funny when he did it.
Rangers are manlets?
I always assumed it was the opposite.
>Rangers are manlets?
yeah thats why theyre so sneky
How does it work?
plz no bully, I mainly come here to talk about boats and kittens.
Basically the soldiers wear captors over their equipment and a firing blank device with captor/laser is mounted on the rifle. So every time a soldier fires a blank a laser is activated and if you shoot an enemy or you are shot the program will tell "X is dead / you are dead or injured".
On advanced simulators it can even calculate if you are injured / heavily injured which part of your body is fucked up (e.g. you lost a leg or the use of an arm) or if you are still conscious or able to fight.
It can also use additional settings like if you are wearing body armor or not, if there is chemicals or radiations and tell you if "bullets" are flying over your head. It will also calculate the penetration and fragmentation of rounds through cover and explosion radius shrapnel and concussion of explosive devices like laser/blank grenades or rocket launchers.
The system can also be used with vehicle likes cars, IFV and MGT but also buildings. For exemple when you used a rocket launcher against an armored vehicle it will calculate the penetration/fragmentation of the rocket and the survivability of the crew. Or if you fire at a house with a tank it will calculate the structural damages of the building (if it takes fire / if it collapses / if everyone is dead inside)
For exemple in Switzerland the army has built entire military exercice villages like that with fuck tones of IR captors and cameras.
*MBT not MGT sorry
>plays laser tag all day in top combat gear and gets paid for it
well fuck omw to sign up rn
Just causally picking up 300 pounds by your arms alone and walking off eh? Cool story there dad
How is it able to tell you were hit?
For a short distance it isn't a record breaking feat ,do you even lift?
>Basically the soldiers wear captors over their equipment and a firing blank device with captor/laser is mounted on the rifle. So every time a soldier fires a blank a laser is activated and if you shoot an enemy or you are shot the program will tell "X is dead / you are dead or injured".
Can it detect if you've been hit in the the shoe or does the shooter have to explicitly aim for the head?
>lift
cool
75th on left and the Ranger Training Brigade on right
When you want to be a Ranger but are still big Army gay
When has the Army not been the big gay
>Ranger Training Brigade
The Rangers have an entire brigade devoted to just training them?
Well there's cadre for Ranger school and RASP. The dude you see to the right is cadre for Ranger school
If I just did up my HD gun to look like Hoot's gun from Black Hawk Down, am I the cool or the big gay?
You're both (post it anyway)
Now that's pretty cool actually
>detachable carry handle
yikes
this
Why were so many Rangers in Somalia wearing black vests? Did they make RBAs in black too?
This
>apart
please learn English so you don't come across as a retard
Probably gifted by usasoc/delta during their train up for the deployment
believe it or not, one of the actual prop guns used in the movie had a detachable carry handle.
I'm just using it because it's what I had and the gun's first build point was to be a cheap parts build, the distant second objective was to look cool (as cool as possible.)
>tfw packet got denied because they arent accepting my mos right now
>apply for MOS 99Z, Weaponized Astronomy Specialist
>"Sorry, all 3 slots for that MOS are currently full. Better luck next time"
I'm pretty sure these aren't Rangers, but they're wearing RBAs
looks like those guys are in a world of suck right there
How bad could it be? There's a bicycle, some carnies in the background putting up a Ferris wheel; seems OK.
They don't get to ride the bike, or the ferris wheel. And those are some big packs.
bump
I thought you needed actual strength to be a Ranger?
RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!
That honestly doesn’t look that bad. The packs are heavy I’m sure, but if that’s the worst of their problems then they’ve got it pretty good.
BIG ASS AMERICAN FLAGS.
Jee, wonder what country they're from...
F
You can also "fire" the laser sometimes by covering the light censor then lifting your hand really quickly.
Cool
Delta vests
I have a post-somalia 2 plate pocket version with a 2002 date. I don't understand why they had to make some that late when its replacement, the IBA, was already in service.
I thought Rangers generally didn't like using the IBA because of its weight and cumbersomeness?
Also post more pics
I don't know what was worse. My the early 2000's it wasn't just the Rangers. Lots of random army and marines had them in inital gear grab bag of the 2003 Iraq invasion.
i rather have a pasgt honestly.
It's not murder if you're in the army
What's that weird strap running along the back?
Fucking beautiful
You mean the smaller one? I don't know specifically why it exists but it goes around your waist on the inside. I've seen it before on other soft armor covers.
Are those pockets on the front and back where the SAPI plates are kept?
Yeah, those.
How comfy is it?
You know what we got now? ITES. Just like MILES, it never works.
>Jee, wonder what country they're from...
ARTB runs airborne and Ranger School. They're huge schools so they need a lot of guys. They're not real rangers though. RASP is run by Regimental Special Troops Battalion, so actual Rangers.
average is 5' 9" 175
>mfw I'm a full inch taller than the average Army Ranger
kek
They're plates but not SAPIs. They plates the RBA uses are specific to the RBA.
I can't accurately assess that since the large size is too big for me, and I don't have the appropriate soft or hard armor parts.
Guess they are SAPIs after all. Certainly not the same as the modern shape with 2 clipped corners, and specific only to the RBA.
Also keep in mind the back plate was added only after Somalia due to what was learned there.
you figure that their gear is an additional at least 120lbs together, plus the additional bulk, if youre not full of shit and can actually prove it (not happening) ill jerk off a horse and post the vid here
