In Russia, you stay in reserve till you are 45 (60 if it's a full mobilization during a war), and formally you can be recruited for a two-month long course every three years.
In practice it doesn't affect regular conscripts, only trained military officers and specialists who left the Army. Only about 5000 people get called from reserve every year.
The government also compensates the salary you missed on your current job, and your employer can't fire you from your current position afterwards.
Also it's not a felony for a reservist to just not show up. You pay a $2-10 fine and you are off.

The majority of existence has been nothing but bloodshed and violence from the get go. This is a weapons board so there’s probably a good portion of people here that believe in the existential need for self defense. Not just for individuals but for countries as well. We’ve lived in a time of relative peace but to think that will last forever is foolish. I might not call it brainwashed, but I’d call it poor policy to forego any sort of fighting force in hopes that someone else will protect you. That’s like someone saying “ why buy a gun when the cops can protect you?”

My BN PA was prior enlisted 18D and I asked him and all he would say was "there was a lot of work with animals". Apparently they will shot or injure the goats/animal in different ways and they will have to treat and keep them alive.

First time i heard about it, was after an operation by peru special forces, to liberate an embassy. They digged a tunnel to enter, and i remember reading about their training and the thing about caring about a pet, and then having to kill it to desenbilize them, or some shit like that

The Army of my country (Brazil) though trains in favela-like enviroments for assymetrical urban warfare, actually is more prone to believe (and it's structure was build for it) that a war against a exterior treat will be army against army like WWII instad of a quick, assymetrical all out war against invisible actors.

This is a bit of a misunderstanding.

Finns don't really believe that Russia is a credible threat.
However, Finns DO believe that Russia is utterly ruthless mob state and it WILL start some conflict shit just to quiet down some internal trouble. And that Russia has no qualms about sending tens of thousands of poor conscripts to their certain death just to play some stupid "strongman" -card in international politics.

Don't worry, Finland doesn't buy Russia's bullshit. Russia COULD undoubtly crush resistance and occupy Finland if it pulled all it's resources into one big pile and just steamroll Finland. But it would be the same situation than what Admiral Yamamoto said: "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."

It would be like Afghanistan. you CAN take it, but it is almost impossible to hold. That's the whole point of Finnish military doctrine: You COULD invade Finland and crush it's main military forces. But the military is built from ground up to switch to guerilla warfare at moment's notice. It will be local boys defending local areas, using their local knowledge. It will be their neighbourhoods thy fight in, and EVERY household knows this. "have you seen this man" will always be answered "no." even if it was the boy next door. And all sorts of punitive actions against civillian population would only increase hostility towards occupation.

It's just not worth it to zerg-rush Finland. NOTHING you get from that piece of land (be it geopolitical or strategic foothold or some natural resources) will be worth the cost in men, material, and political prestige it will cost you to just get it, let alone to hold it.
