why did treads never take off for personal transportation? imagine how cheap tanks would be if instead of cars everyone tootled around in disarmed MBTs.
>why did treads never take off for personal transportation?
expensive, heavy, slow, damaging to road surfaces, require constant maintenance, can be dislodged from the vehicle by turning too sharply
basically inferior to wheels in every way except their ability to cross rough terrain, which if you noticed is not something most people drive on. even in rough terrain a wheeled vehicle is perfectly adequate 99% of the time.

The thing is that roads were invented because wheels were the best we had and they couldn't handle rough terrain – if we upgraded to an entirely track based transport system the roads wouldn't be needed
>The thing is that roads were invented because wheels were the best we had and they couldn't handle rough terrain The Romans were thinking way, WAY ahead, then.

I don't agree with him but you do know the romans had wagons with wheels right?

TKS, best tankette ever made, could punch through Tigers and easily destroy ИC 2, pure Polish engineering, state of the art technology for that time, and it could fly and shoot down F15s
Yes, the tank that held up an entire German armored division. The only evidence that points to it being a KV-2 is the 6 people buried. Only 3 of those were identified as crew members. mk.ru/social/2015/04/29/odin-den-iz-zhizni-klimenta-voroshilova.html "And then another mystery of this “Kliment Voroshilov” appeared. At the reburial, the remains of six victims were found, while the crew of such tanks consisted of five people. Where did another one come from? Who is he? There is a version that the Germans ordered to put in a mass grave along with the tank crews of some other Red Army man who was killed nearby. Or maybe someone was in the tank as a mechanic..."

>if we upgraded to an entirely track based transport system the roads wouldn't be needed They wouldn't be needed, but smoother travel surfaces provide better efficiency. It's always going to be more efficient to drive on a flat road than rough terrain, regardless of whether it's wheels or tracks. Railroads are even smoother, and thus are even more efficient.

i mean, i'm not taking a stance in either direction, but that's not exactly much evidence
>mexicos first indigenous tank fascinating. it looks like its main armament is a hotchkiss revolving canon. Interesting to know they were once mounted in a tank

Indigenous tanks from minor nations are always an interesting bunch. Here's an Argentinian Nahuel DL43.
