Good, drinking was fun as fuck when I was in the army, just make sure you do it with your peers and not alone. It happens, there’s plenty of ways to fix it.

Stop, just stop. Your peers will have thousands of dollars of debt and no real world experience looking for a job. At least you’ll have military experience and it does help with employment. I have both a degree and .mil experience and it has put me ahead of my peers every time. A large part of your success will be from networking though.

Use the G.I. Bill, but also don’t be afraid of doing a trade skill. I kind of wish I had gone to a trade school than to college. But college was still fun as fuck. Even if I was somewhat old.

Because when you look at things overall, shit isn't that bad. We're cheaply and consistently well-fed. Comparatively well educated. Reasonably entertained. Our healthcare is reasonable for such an enormous nation, and our taxes and duty to our government is at an all-time low. Our freedoms, especially recently, are worlds beyond what other countries enjoy.
People will revolt, eventually, but for now there's literally no reason to. For the vast, vast majority of people in the US, life is actually really fucking good. Better than in the last decade, even. No reason to violently change the status quo when it benefits you, your friends, and your family better than whatever changes you might make.

AA is a general spiritual program, not a "Christian" program, although alot of people do find Christ in AA. There are Atheists in AA. Is it a cult? Not really, you're free to come and go as you choose, I'd say the aspect where you have depedence on a group conscious is slightly culty but it's by no means a proper cult. I've also got a job through my AA friends and getting my confidence back. Me personally I know I wouldn't have stayed sober had i not gotten involved in AA, and im grateful as fuck i did. Was drinking about 24-30 beers everyday just to fend off the DTs, it was all depressing and no longer fun at all. Anyway do whatever works best I know everyone has their prejudices, especially about AA

I mean, you can say that all you want, but the fact of the matter is that you're waiting on someone else to do something, too.
It's hard to ask someone who's relatively rich, comfortable, and well-fed and educated to throw their entire life away for literally nothing. At the end, unless you have an entire new constitution and state of government drawn up and ratified, that's what you're asking others to do. Rise up against a state of government you personally find oppressive in exchange for nothing at all, with nothing in place to replace it should you actually succeed.
I'm not saying to not question anything - all good patriots should constantly challenge their government and remind them their proper place - but remove yourself from the emotion of it and realize that you're demeaning others for doing exactly the same thing you're doing, which is not much.

user I'd drink 8 beers in like 2.5 hrs to get warmed up. I'm not even boasting that's how bad I had gotten. That shit was literally killing me physically and mentally at only 32 and i was ready to go down with the ship. Started my drinking in the Army, used to be alot of fun, barracks, casinos, bars, etc...by the end it was hell on Earth tbqh. I went through the DTs for about a week, took another 2-3 months for my brain to even clear up, and I'm still healing. Anyway don't wanna turn this into a booze/sobriety thread but it does tie heavy into vet issues, especially suicide, and i think alot of guys don't realize it and think the booze is helping the problem, when it reality it's exacerbating it

It's really odd seeing this stuff. My father has 20 years of service with deployments to Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan, including heavy fighting in the 2003 invasion and mass graves and shit in Bosnia but has never shown any regrets or PTSD of any sort except for his back being fucked from infantry service.

I say the ones who come back just fine aren't talking on twitter about it.

Also, imma Army combat vet. 19D if that matters. I was a SAW gunner and did 3-5 combat/presence patrols a week for 9 months in Afghanistan. We were in tics or IED’d at least once a week. We had a KIA on day 1. 3 KIA’s by the time we left. My team leader spent 3 years learning how to walk after an IED injury. My platoon was at 50% strength by the time we left due to injury and death. I’ve literally had to scrape up what’s left of buddies into bodybags.
I’m not saying this to be dramatic, but just so you know where I’m coming from. I think a lotta people ham up the “PTSD” stuff for attention or greed. Especially the few females I served around. All of them claim they have severe PTSD and all they did was work in an MWR or S shop and never went on a single patrol.
Lots of vets do need help, but I think a lot of people just want to scam the VA and get attention.
You wouldn’t believe the number of REMFs that would tell me all the stuff I should be doing for gibs from the VA like they were doing. You also wouldn’t believe how stupefied they were when I told them to fuck off and stop abusing the system for the sake of the guys that really need it. Just my opinion.
I get nothing and am not even registered with the VA btw.

I was 11b with two tours in Iraq and collect VA disability, but I don't talk about it and you're completely correct alot of POGs are playing the system for gibs, it's kind of fucked up but it's hard to address without overstepping someone's boundaries. There are non combat vets that play the system for gibs as well. Not sure how long since you've ETS but you should definitely enroll in the VA just to be safe, you never know what issues will come up later in life due to service. After so many years from ETS it's extremely hard to get enrolled in VA healthcare

The combat load with the IBA and side plates around 06-08 before the IOTV was easily the heaviest combat load of any era of military service I'm almost certain. The empty vest alone weighed like 35 lbs. It absolutely sucked to wear as a 249 gunner
