Pretty much any smokeless cartridge over ~.50 is purely for novelty purposes. .577NE is the largest that was normally used for anything and even that was considered kind of a niche round.
Also I did some math and came to the conclusion that a single round of .950 is enough to stop almost 328 million airborne flies dead in their track.
So you can't deny its usefulness.
