Right now the prices for SKS are still reasonable, but the prices for Mosins are too high considering what you are getting. For a hundred or so beyond the current Mosin price you can get a Yugo M48, or a Swiss K11, or a Swedish Mauser.

Slightly stronger action, and the action itself is shortened, so the barrel was lengthened. This was useful for the standard GP11 ammunition. Some other changes occurred to help with accuracy, and the sights go down to 100m instead of 200m.

It's about what they go for. If you do buy one, keep an eye out for replacement firing pins, because that is the one weak point of the M48. A gunsmith can modify regular Mauser 98 firing pins if necessary.
