Do some cardio, Star Wars kid
1. be in good shape. having good aerobic/anaerobic capacity will be more helpful in simple armed melee combat than the shit instruction you're likely to get anywhere in current year.
2. if you actually care about HEMA (lol), join a hema club near you. there is a map tool that you can use to find a club. why would you though.
Grab a spear and fight people
you'll learn eventually
*Thrust* *thrust* *SWING* *thrust*

Excercise. Practice.
Think logically about how you should use it. Your advantage is your reach, you can swing it and you can thrust.
Don’t let opponent inside your reach, and choke up on the spear if you have to fight closer. There, that bullshit I made up is probably as good as the bullshit as anybody who professes to teach you spearfighting will make up.

Start by working your shoulders and core. You're going to be using those the most. From there, make sure to use something of a length that is as close to historically accurate as you can get, for the fighting style you're going to be using. 6 feet on a medieval/viking era spear is considered on the shorter end, and 8 1/2 feet is about the maximum length if you're not on horseback. Also, don't go fuckhueg on the size of your spear blade. If you want a polearm, get one. Don't compromise thrusting for a little bit better cutting capabilitiy when a poleaxe or a bill would do that job better.
I've been planning on getting a spear for months now, but the one I want has been backordered for goddamned ages. I've been wanting this one

Honestly, if literal cavemen could figure this shit out, it won't be too hard to you to do so as well. Unless you start doing animu shit and impale yourself, in which case, at least have the decency to livestream it so we can have a chuckle.
Also, solid taste in Fire Emblem. Sacred Stones was comfy.
>hat
Fuck yeah, they are.
There are actually surviving medical weapons based martial arts, the two that come to mind that may be relevant to your interests are: Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū (from ~1450, a complete martial art that teaches sword, staff, glaive, and spear amongst other things), and Jogo do pau (Portuguese stuck fighting, not sure of date but pretty old, not exactly spear but sortn of related)
>Medical
Sorry *medieval
The whole original point of the spear combatives (no pun intended) was that you had a bit of distance and could reach ocer obstacles and up to opponents on horseback during battles. That being said, why would you think spear fighting is a meme? Its like the most simple user friendly and very forgiving weapon you could learn to use for medieval squad tactics.
If you are thinking of movie spear fighting with lota of spins and "martial arts" then yeah, thats a meme.
Put simply: thrusts (try to keep em straight), swipes, and charges are your 3 main attacks, and they can be done with or without a shield, depending on what your eqipment is. Id say your best bet to be successful in a spear fight is to have a spear squad, user.
Sacred Stones is underrated.
bamp
Grab spear
Fight stuff
See what works
Get beaten
Abandon what doesn't work
Its a spear
You stab shit
>Portuguese stuck fighting
Damn Lusitanians, what were they up to?
Unfortunately, you wouldn't learn TSKSR spear kata until fairly late in the training. It's certainly not starting material (anymore?), though the bo kata contains many stuff you can do with a spear, since it's supposed to be a broken one.
btw fuck fyrom
Historical European sources decribing how to fight with spears and other polearms exist. Spears, pikes halberds, poleaxes, armour, no armour, the whole shabang.
Special mention goes to the Bolognese school who describe fighting with spear/partisan and shield outside of an armoured dueling scenario. Pic related.
For the record, in Bolognese both an over (as if you're gonna throw it) and underarm grip is taught. The overarm grip has a shitload of leverage that lets do extremely effective parries with the spear itself. Sounds goofy, but it's great both one-on-one and when you're dealing with multiple attackers (use the shield for one, spear for other)
You need to be pretty strong in order to fight effectively with spear and shield. If not, you're like lindybeige and you might find yourself making a retarded video about how a certain fighting method sucks because you're too weak to do it.
