I don't see a reason for 6.5 or 6.8 personally. I have my ARs for practicality and having them in 5.56 is very practical to me. But have you shot a battle rifle? RFN is fucking fun

depends what. hunting get 7.62, for real combat meaning penning body armor, 5.56 is better, standard bulk M193 will go through level 3+ under 100 meters but only through 20+ inch barrel.

Well they haven't yet. I don't think 5.56 is practical because of how it performs, it's practical because of it proliferation and popularity while being "good enough". Now in 50 years after the Army has switched to 6.8 (which it won't, the testing is stupid and transition costs would be way too high) then my opinion will change.

It's not just rebarreling. The military has already paid for tons of spare 5.56 barrels and associated tools. They also have millions (if not billions) of 5.56 rounds in storage. All of that shit would have to be sold at below market rate while they buy new shit.

Pushing the AR-15 past 500-600m is easy with the 6.5 Grendel, I don't know about 6.8 SPC though. I'm interested in the .224 Valkyrie, but from what I can tell, right now the 6.5 Grendel is the perfect round for a "jack of all trades" AR-15. On the other hand, you could make the argument that with multiple uppers the need for such a rifle is negated; you can have a long-barrelled upper for 6.5, a short barrel for .300 blackout, and a 16 or 18" barrel for your 5.56. Hell you can even get a piston upper if that's what you're into.

Also new lowers, cause the 6.8 they're lookin at is in a T H I C C case, and new mags, cause that shit ain't gonna fit right in any sr 25s they have. FYI, the 6.8 they've landed on is packed in a fucking 30 06 casing.

Depends on the .308 and the rifle. I think it is more that .308 gets loaded hotter, where as real fucking nato is a more standard load. Though I think there is also a different in the case wall thickness. But once again, I am pretty sure it only matters if you have hot as fuck .308

I live in California. At this point it is still technically possible to get and an AR10 but it is difficult. I already have an AR15. But I wanted to have something "better" for killing wild hogs. I wanted something I could shoot out to 700yrds or longer and till have some power. I built a 6.5 Grendel upper. It fits that need. But I don't think it is for a large market.
