FRIENDLY EEEEE REMINDER

user, remember to ALWAYS DOUBLE UP on that EAR PROTECTION and use plugs and muffs with the highest rate of protection.

Bonus: use suppressors whenever you CAN

Amen. I was once only using earplugs and some neckbeard was magdumping a .308. My hearing was all distorted, I thought it would be permanently damaged.

you're preaching to a pack of retards
>ha, this braked 7.5" AR is a flamethrower! It's so much fun to watch fudds run away whenever I shoot it!
five years later
>why won't my ears stop ringing and why can't I hear anything above 9k

WHAT? ALWAYS DOUBLE UP ON DEER CONTRACEPTIVE BEFORE YOU PLUG THEIR MUFF?

WHAT ABOUT BEER PROTECTION AND THE MUPPETS?

I shoot my vz58 with a compensator and I always feel bad when there are people near me.

I SAID DONT MISTAKE PUGS FOR MUTTS

WHAT? YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO SPEAK ENGLISH MAN I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOUR GIBBERISH

is it not possible to remove or put a cage device over?
Anons in restrictive states don't have to use super loud brakes. Cages are compliant.

I am in Eur*pe, there is no harsh regulation concerning compensators. The thing is the gun had it on when I bought it and I cant fucking take it off.

I shoot .22 with no ear pro am I good? I put it on for higher cartridges but not .22

i would assume the noise is the least for the actual shooter, it's most unpleasant for everyone else

go to a gunsmith
an entire generation of baby boomers is deaf as fuck because they thought it wasn't necessary to wear ear pro to shoot supersonic 22 lr through a 10/22, even though it's just a hair 140 db per shot. When the damage finally showed up, it was way too late to do anything because its cumulative, and you either have hearing loss that effects your day to day or you don't. One day you wake up without tinnitus and the next you wake up with it.
For anything that isn't suppressed or a 22 from a rifle I wear both ear plugs and muffs. For a suppressed firearm I wear at least one set of ears.

still hit the threshold for hearing damage unless you're shooting subsonic

that's the point, they don't realize the damage that's being done because it's genuinely painful for people to the sides. The damage comes much more slowly for the shooter.

i think it's possible to be fine if you double hearing protection for the shooter
it's still an enormous dick move though

I've never seen anyone with such a set up wear anything but impact sports. Their ears have to ring after every range trip.

>I've never seen anyone with such a set up wear anything but impact sports.
How would you know if they don't have plugs as well, brainlet?

NO THANKS I DONT NEED ANY LUG NUTS

I only double up when shooting indoors.

I know we can double up, but can we TRIPLE UP?

Sometimes I feel double isn't adequate enough. I remember this one time some young tacticool fag bought an SBR'd SCAR 17 and was ripping off rounds.

I already have the eeeEeeEee's from an incident involving a boomer touching one off right next to my head. Do I still need earpro?

yes, otherwise it will only get worse

I made this mistake when I was younger. I came to regret it. Always double up on ear pro.

Reminder that muffs and plugs together dont have a high enough effect to protect you from hearing damage. An AK type has around 160db volume at the shooters end, double upping only reduces around 35 dB. Thats still 125 which goes over the threshold.'

You will not hear it, you will not feel it either but in time it will add up. Modern protection simply is not enough, get a suppressor AND double up if you want to evade long term hearing damage.

Its basic math which has been independently studied around the world by different armed forces. Everyone has the same results and the math doesnt lie, you cant protect your hearing conventionally. Of course no Gov actually tells you this for blatant reasons but the math does not lie.

impact sports are an absolute joke of ear protection, only meant for people who genuinely think their hearing is worth $30. I really doubt they're using plugs.
this

Recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes so the impact of permanent change is quite real and unnerving Timmy. Where does Goodyear Pro start? Better yet what brand of pro is a top-tier value? I have no desire to buy overpriced Gucci shit, but what would be some quality ear pro options?

I use ear muffs only with no plugs and all i have is a little deafness, no eeeeeeeeeeeeee

Also the deafness is from fireworks anyway.

>tfw deafened myself recently discharging a 12 gauge into a well with no hearing protection

No tinnitus tho

Duck tape

>have genetic tinnitus
>just wear impact sports with no plugs

I never had anything to lose.

it can get worse, as can your hearing
just because you can't feel it now doesn't mean it won't become an issue ten years from now

Ackschually, you can get well over 40 dB protection from doubling up, if you use, for example, Peltor Optime III from 3M, which has 35 dB reduction and plugs with 39 dB reduction, I know there was as formula to count it, but I can't find it right now.

You should rather consider numbers than a brand. I use 3M and I am quite happy.

Source on 39 db reduction plugs? The most I've seen for plugs is 33 NRR

Too late. My tinnitus isn't getting worse.

Unless it was from a suppressed 10/22 using subsonic ammunition then yes you fugged up. I regularly shoot .308 and 7.62 NATO so I don’t really have a choice as I value my hearing, but don’t be fooled by .22lr especially if you’re magdumping. You can and will get the eternal EEEEE if you don’t protect yourself. Would you fuck a hooker without a condom? If not, then don’t shoot without getting your ears protected first.

> An AK type has around 160db volume at the shooters end, double upping only reduces around 35 dB. Thats still 125
You don't just substract the NRR, brainlet. You substract 7 and divide by 2 first. So hearing protection with 35 NRR would actually lower the decibels by only 14.

>An AK type has around 160db volume at the shooters end
No, it has around 160 dB at the muzzle, not at the shooter's ear. I'm not aware of any measurements that would tell us just how many dB are shaved off by the time it reaches the ear, but it's definitely not a negligible amount.
>Thats still 125 which goes over the threshold.
OSHA threshold for impulse noise (so one that lasts a fraction of a second, such as gunshots) is 140.

That's all not counting the fuckton of other factors, such as the fit of plugs/muffs, enviroment you are shooting in, etc. There's also the fact that all those measurements and calculations are vague as fuck. It's honestly kind of a joke how fucking poor this science is. I would very much be interested in actual studies on how a lifetime of shooting with religious use of double hearing protection affects one's hearing, but I doubt there's anything this specific out there. Keep in mind our hearing deteriorates with age even without firearms or anything nearly as loud. It's all about exposure time and we are exposed to sounds at all times.

I was a dumbass in my late teens/early 20s. never wore ear protection shooting my sks, 10/22 and shotguns, that plus live music every weekend off and on for 30 years. Ive got permanent ringing, i can still hear ok though, i guess lol.

I shoot 12g with out ear pro all the time and I haven't noticed anything deferent with my hearing, what's the deal with .22
